By a small house near the edge of a river, two little girls played. Giggling one tagged the other before racing off, making a silent statement that the opposing girl was it. The other, much entralled by this new game took chase, not slowing down until she neared the younger girl, and jumped. As they both fell laughing to the ground they rolled onto their backs, staring up at the sky.
The older of the two pointed towards the clouds and said in a low voice, almost like a whisper, "See that? Do you see?! Doesn't that look like a dragon to you?" Though she said this not expecting an answer, and wasn't in the least bit surprised when she got none. "Ninil remembers her Senshia telling her about dragons a few suns ago. It was incredible about how they sounded. Big scaley creatures, with humongous wings and horns on their backs and heads! Amazing." She breathed out. Turning onto her side, she watched the smaller girl squint her eyes looking for the dragon and sigh.
Scooting closer towards her she took her hand and pointed it towards that particular cloud in the airy space above them, "That's the dragon, the one that looks like a Gilly Lizard." The other girl nodded and smiled, showing her approval of the marvolous depiction of the creature that was haphazardly displayed in the sky. "You know Lianci, they're 'mystical' creatures. No one's ever caught one, well, not that Ninils heard of anyway."
The little girl named Lianci looked at the older girl in question and quickly Ninil said, "You know what Ninil means. My Shenshia will tell her more later, more to you to if you'd like." Lianci looked over at her hopefulling in a questioning stare and the older girl sat up and thumped her fist on her chest in mock pride saying, "If her name wasn't Ninil, Ninil swears she be lieing." She turned to Lianci and smiled reasuringly, "Ninil thinks her Senshia isn't doing anything but preparing supper, she's sure she'll tell us more about it as she cooks."
Lianci nodded happily at the other girl and stood up, her small hand extended towards her in a warm invitation. Ninil took it with a smile and they both got up and ran back to the house, the smell of food already reaching them.
"Senshia, Senshia! Ninil's here!" The small girl shouted as she ran through the opened front doors with only a small croak of protest from the old piece of wood as the wind from their passing hit it.
"What is it little one?! I'm in the kitchen!" Her Senshia called back. Soon Ninil appeared with Lianci in the doorway, out of breath, and a wide smile on her face, with a smaller, more tentative one adorning Lianci's.
She looked at them expectantly and wasn't disappointed as Ninil rushed towards her. "Senshia, remember the Dragon's you told Ninil of?" She asked excitedly. The older women before her nodded and said with a small smile, "And what of them, child?"
"Well, Ninil wanted you to tell... Ninil means tell US more stories about them. Ninil was telling Lianci about them and she likes them as much! Please? Ninil promises we'll be quiet all the while!" Her small pleading face was her Senshia's downfall and she nodded. Happy, the small girl went back over to the door and grabbed Lianci, sitting her down on a chair, and she sat down next to her.
Her Senshia turned her seat towards them and said with a smile as she mixed the pot in her lap, "Dragons are creatures that were thought to roam freely in ancient times and they flew through the skies..."
"But Senshia, " Said Ninil interrupting, "Dragons are so big, how can the fly? Tenisha said that the only reasons birds can fly is because they're small amd their bones are empty inside."
Senshia frowned at the small girl and said, "I thought you were going to interupt little one."
Ninil flushed in embaressment before replying meekly, "Ninil just was wondering is all, she forgot."
Her senshia could only smile at the adorable girl and nodded. "It is true that this is how birds could fly, but dragons are... So much different. Of course their bones were hollowed out, but they were stranger than the birds and twicks you see flying about now. So different. Now, as I was saying, they flew through the skies on their enormaous wings and their beedy eyes scanned the land bellow." She paused a moment to place the on the fire, "And, strangely enough, they lived peacfully with the humans." Ninil looked at her with a frown and opened her mouth to say something but was stopped when her Senshia raised her hand.
"I know, Dragons are thought to be horrid monsterly creatures, but that isn't true. Yes, some were afraid and they told horrid stories to their children of them. So all the villagers fears grew and soon, they were singled out and hunted. This of course upset all of the dragons and they decided that if humans weren't going to act kindly towards them, they would be just as mean. So, a war over the years broke out and soon, the dragons were demolished, one by one and then, by a certain time, there were no more left."
"Senshia, that's so mean of them!" Ninil cried out, while Lianci just stared at her with wide eyes. Her Senshia nodded and continued, "Yes, it was. And years after they were killed, they realized their mistake, but it was far too late to change anything now. So, what happened instead to keep them alive, if only in spirit, they told many stories of them. But most were about how they were monsters, but all the one's I heard was of their gentle nature, their beauty and..." She was interupted by the bubbling of the food next to her and she held up her hand for a moment and stood. Looking into the pot she sighed.
"Story time will have to wait for another time children, go get the others and tell them that supper is ready." She glanced over her shoulder at the silent girl, still sitting in her chair, "Will you be joining us Lianci?" The little girl gave a small shrug and Ninils Senshia took that as a yes and smiled. "Take a seat at the table young one, everyone shall be in soon." Lianci gave s small nod and hopped into one of the chairs, smiling at the older women.
"Ninils here to tell everyone suppers ready!" The small girl shouted, running through the house knocking on doors and running through rooms, her short black hair fluttering behind her. Her brothers and sisters either groaned in annoyance or told her to be quiet as they got up and headed towards the kitchen where they all ate, everyone hungry.
It was no surprise that Liancie was eating with them that night, the small girl had eaten there for the past few days. They had all grown accustomed to the fact that she never spoke a word, and that they knew virtually nothing about her except for the name that the towns people had given her. The only thing that they could be sure of is that she lived in Shericks forest, and no one had ever ventured beyond those trees, making the small girl an even bigger mystery.
Ninil, as usual talked away and everyone just nodded and commented whenever neccassary, eating their food in slight comfort. "Ninil, 'e're eatin, can't yeh close tha' hole yeh call a mouth, eh?" Her sister, Nelza, said with slight annoyance.
"Now, now. Be nice to those younger than you 'Elza, they'll be taking care of you when yer old." His father said, waving towards her slightly.
Nelza just rolled her eyes and stood up, "Yeah, wha' ever Tenisha, but we'll be takin care O' yeh, remeba tha'." She said walking away.
"Something needs ta be done about that child, she just needs to learn some manners." Their Tenisha said, taking another bit of his food. Senshia raised an eyebrow and shrugged.
"Oh, I don't know about that dear. She seems an awfully lot like someone I know." Tenisha just huffed and stuffed more food into his mouth, not even bothering to fight on the matter.

Gilly lizard - Gilly lizards, my own creation (I actually don't know if there's something called a "gilly lizard" but whatever), they're long and thing with small wings that come out of their backs when threatened to make themselves seem stronger. If not threatened the wings are hardly noticable.
Twick - These are bird like creatures accept more reptilian like. They have scales running down their sides in various patterns, yet all around the scales are feathers, making the Twick look quite odd. (Again, another one of my own creations)
Shericks Forest - This forest is said to hold great dark magic and yet it has never shown any sign of such but the reason so many believe it is because when someone goes in, they never come out. Yert Lianci, the small girl from above, manages to almost everyday. No one questions her about it, and no one pushes her away because of it. They look at her more like a sacred angel than a cursed beast.
The strange names - You may have noticed the names, like Lianci and Ninil. I thought the names would be something different and not often heard of. Though I do think that Ninil is quite common. Senshi and Tenisha are actually sub-names for the words Mother and Father.
The town that they live in - Now, the only thing I'm going to say is that it's a very "reptilian" town.
