I found love one summer

Okay everyone, this is my first, and will most likely suck. And forgive me, but I have not yet figured out the codes.

Once again, Maria stood beside the old black and brown mailbox, her suitcase in her hand. She sighed. It was June 10th. For the next few months until September, she'd be staying at her grandparents' house in the country. She looked down to road at her parents driving away. She turned back and looked at the house. She began her walk up the long driveway. She had loved it as a child, but had recently began finding it boring here. They had a computer, but no Internet access. She had made sure to bring many books with her. Maria was almost seventeen years old, and for the last eleven years, she had spent the summer here. She finally made it to the front porch, and set her heavy suitcase down. She knocked three times, and heard very loud and deep barking on the other side of the door. Then her grandma's soft voice. "Ben! Stop it! Get back!" The door opened, and Maria smiled, happy to see her grandma. The large pit bull almost jumped on her, and licked her hand, wagging his tail hard enough to knock down a small table. Maria entered the house, and was happy to see they finally had an AC. She had almost smothered the summer before. Grandma wasn't very old at all, since both she and her daughter had given birth in their teens.
"Grandma!" Maria threw her arms around her, and kissed her. "Where's grandpa?"
"That darn pig keeps getting out somehow. He went to see if he could figure out why." Maria looked around at the old house she hadn't seen in a little less than a year. It looked pretty much the same. Her eyes stopped on a picture hanging on the wall. It was of a blond haired girl sitting at the kitchen table with Maria's grandpa.
"Grandma, who's that?"
"Oh, that's Sara. She lives a few houses down. She sometimes helps your grandpa get livestalk into the truck for slaughtering."
"That's horrible!"
"Where do you think the meat you eat comes from?"
"Big Bear."
"Very funny. Anyway, she just moved here. You'll finally have someone around your own age to play with. You complained endlessly how bored you were last summer."

Okay, I'm going to continue this later. It'll get more interesting as the story progresses. At least, that's what I tell myself.
