Chapter 1
Author's Note:
I wrote this story years ago and yet I never finished writing it. What with college and what not...but as I went back and reread the story I realized that I really want to finish what I started and now I am going to do just that. I've taken much of what I have written and I've changed quite a bit, and in some cases haven't changed anything at all. i wanted to change the way the story flowed, because some areas sounded kinda weird and awkward. Well, anywhoo, i hope you enjoy what has changed.

Her hazel eyes scanned a village from the hill side where the forest came to an end. She stood there secretly being careful not to draw any attention to herself, for if she had been noticed the consequences would have been dire. The evening breeze began to blow which tussled about the ebony locks from the long thick braid she wore. As she watched, the people hurried to finish their work before the sun completely set. It wasn't that she longed to be one of them, but the mere fact that she missed her mother so much.
Lydia enjoyed the sunset's warm glow for a moment longer before turning her feet towards the deep forests of Spain. As she receded into the darkness of the woods she had the urge to run, escape far off, away from Spain, so she could be free. But she knew the dangers and punishments that would become her if she even tried.
There, leaning against a tree, stood a six and a half foot tall man with dark russet curls cut close to his head. His muscular build proved his stature of a guard, "I don't understand what you see in those creatures." He said to her haughtily as she walked past him.
"Nor would I expect you to. After all, the Moon-bound life is all you have known Lukas. It is not any of your priority to wonder what I think nor to contemplate why I do the things I do. The sole purpose you are here is to fulfill your assignment of guarding me." and with that said she continued in front of him Lukas trailed behind her watching her agile huntress like body. He was intrigued by the graceful manner in the way she walked, even when she was in a hurry. Her dark unruly hair accented her curved waist and thick hips. Her perky tanned breasts made his mouth water all the more.
He snorted arrogantly to himself, pity she was one of the reserved for the alpha, Makari, he thought to himself. If she hadn't been picked for Makari’s hand full of mates, Lukas would have claimed her himself, making sure their pups would be countless. He scratched absent mindedly at the trousers he was ordered to wear, she had been the only one he deemed worthy enough for himself. Having been distracted by the hypnotic sway of Lydia’s hips he bumped hard into a hard body which brought him out of deep thought. He looked up to see Makari towering 4 inches taller than he. His golden hair hung about the alpha’s shoulders, his lavender eyes burned with a hint of anger and his olive skin gave him an eerie glow,
"You wouldn't happen to be thinking unchastely of my future mate, would you Lukas?" His deep Russian voice sounded in a warning tone
Lukas bowed his head, "No my lord."
A domineering smirk played on the alpha's lips, "See that I don't catch your wondering eye again Lukas, or I will have to cast you out for disobeying law! Go find Pearlita and see that she is ready for the war counsel." and with that Makari left the guard to catch up with Lydia and escort her inside the main Cavern
Lydia wasn't stupid by any means. She was able to hear everything that Makari had said to Lukas. It was true that she was Makari's future mate, one of the new additions, but she had yet to pass the initiation. And she couldn't say that she didn't have some feelings for the alpha, but he already had four mates, she wasn't too comfortable having to share her lifetime mate.
She stood a ways away from the entrance of the cavern waiting for Makari to finish his warning to Lukas. Lydia pulled her hair from out of it's braid and let it hang about her body. She closed her eyes and took a relaxing breath, living here was so different from when she was a little girl. But it wasn't as if she could actually remember living with her father. He had been especially cruel to her when he found out she inherited her mother's dark trait. So at the age of six she was sent with a parcel of food into the deep woods, to survive on her own like a beast. For, she had to admit, that is truly was she was. She could recall that even back then Makari looked to be the same age, still handsome and stern.
She heard him making his way towards her, and so she made her way towards the cavern, in one motion taking off the frock that covered her nude body, and in that instant, Makari was there to enter with her. "Do you wish for me to assign you to another guard?" He asked, his voice giving Lydia's flesh goose bumps.
"Why would I make you go through so much trouble Makari? You know well enough I can take care of myself. Besides I simply ignore him so he really is not much of a bother." She said avoiding his gaze. She did not want to get close to him. She felt selfish knowing that she wanted him to herself, but she understood that she wasn't the first woman to be his, nor would she be the last. The thought of her being used ritually for breeding killed her, and she would not let herself succumb to stupid trickery.
"What is wrong Lydia?" The Russian asked, taking in the beauty of her face in the darkness. He could sense her doubt and slight fear, even some anger. "Is there something you wish to tell me?"
She faced him, her hazel eyes cold and serious, "I am fine. I would like to get something to eat." She waited for his response, her mind begging to be away of his presence.
He nodded to her, and she walked briskly off to the farthest end of the cave where the meals were held. Makari released a breath from deep within his chest.
When Lydia was a young girl she had this strong freedom about her, and he cherished that most about her. She was lively and care-free, but when she had become of age she had become closed off and cold to him. He wasn't sure what it was, but he had a faint idea what it could be. He had been the one to save her, at first thinking her a lost little girl that no one would miss, until he saw her turn, a very strong pup indeed. He had become taken with her and eventually coaxed her into joining his clan.
Just then he felt warm hands wrap around his waist, she was his fourth wife. He felt her bare breast press against his back and her fingers trail up to his chest, "Makari, we await you for dinner." She whispered into his back. He turned to face her, her red hair flowing about her shoulders, her dark black eyes staring up at him, and her pale skin sensually glowing against his. Of his four mates she was his favorite, next to Lydia, whom wasn't his mate just yet. "Well, well, well, how is my fiery flower? I haven't seen you all day."
She smiled sweetly, her plump lips inviting, "I've been teaching your pups to hunt" her accent was foreign and unknown. "Now come, the clan is hungry, and you must have first share." Makari smiled to himself and walked arm in arm with Tatianna towards the feasting area. As they entered the alpha caught Lukas with his eyes plastered to Lydia. There she sat at the farthest end of the room with all the young pups playing with them and hushing them when Makari entered.
Tatianna caught his attention with her very silent whispers, "What have you done to Lydia? She is so silent now."
"I was hoping you could find that out for me my love." He whispered back
Just as Makari was about to help himself to his meal three women sauntered in without a word and with proud airs about them. The one leading them was amazingly tall with honey colored hair that covered her buttox and eyes the color of a spring green. Her skin had no scars, and her breasts weighed heavy on her chest despite their perkiness. She was the stern clan matron Odalia, Makari's first mate.
She sat next to the Russian and smiled softly to him. The next to sit was Pearlita, her dark brown hair hung beautifully about her firm breasts, her grey eyes looked about with a natural lazy seductivity to them. Upon her legs and arms she had many scars from battle, some very old, and some fresh. She was very motherly and the one to care for Lydia when she was still a pup. She was Makari’s second mate and the general of the clan’s warriors.
The last to sit was Adora, the most jealous of Makari's mates. Her hair was straight and as dark as plum wood, her eyes were a stormy blue that were always cold, and her skin was pale like snow. Though the alpha's mates were very beautiful in their ways, Adora's was the one's who would always lure the fools. But like a flower with the sweetest scent, she had the foulest thorns.
It was then, when the third mate finally sat, that they allowed Makari his fill, next was Odalia, then Pearlita, Adora, Tatianan, and then finally the rest of the clan was allowed to feast. Lydia observed Makari with the women of his choosing. Of course they were born werewolf, one of the policies to be an alpha's mate, but they all had different stories in how they became bound to him.
Odalia was the daughter of the former alpha, before he was bested by the wandering Russian. She and Makari cared for one another very deeply once, even though he had to best her many times before he was allowed him to take her as mate. She gave him three sons and four daughters, in return he gave to her the position as Clan Matron. And though they no longer loved as they once did, they loved as good friends and gave one another advice as well as deserved respect.
Perlita was born a member of the clan. She was kind and motherly but also a strong and intelligent woman. She was a well renowned warrior among many of the werewolf clans in Spain. Many a time during battle she had saved Makari, winning herself a position as mate and Head of Guard. She really only cared for him as a brother and he cared for her more as a sister, but none the less she bore him a son and a daughter.
Next was Adora. She was from a clan of the Northern Spanish Mountains. She had agreed to be Makari's mate for the sake of making an alliance with her father's clan. It was agreed among many in the clan that she was the cruelest of women. More than once she had given Makari horrid scars after a fight. She was not keen on the idea of being a third wife, for after all she had been spoiled as the only daughter of an alpha. But after a long time she warmed up to Makari and gave to her one daughter. This enraged her greatly that he did not give her any sons. For you see, bearing the son of an alpha gave you power in a clan. It was also known to be true that she was very deeply envious of Tatianna, for she had Makari’s affection above the other mates.
It was not known where Tatianna was from. It was said that when Makari had gone back to Russia for important business he had met her upon his return. The story was that she had run away and was on her own and that she her enchantress blood had ensnared him. It was true that she was blessed with the gift of foresight and because of this the clan members believed that Makari wanted her for her beauty and access to her power. No one really knew much about her besides that she was kind as well as fierce, sweet as she was harsh, truthful as she was childish. She had bore him two sons and a daughter, and he cared for her so much he had given her the position as Teacher.
Lydia looked upon her share of the meal, unsure of why Makari would feel she would make a worthy mate. She could not give him and powerful alliance nor had she saved him in battle, and after all it was Tatianna that had his heart. Doubt again settled into the pit of her belly.
"Come Lydia, what's the matter? Aren't you hungry?"
She looked up to see her friend Ignacio, "Yes, I am.” She smiled trying to hide away her feelings, “I was just thinking, do not worry about me." and with that she ate her share greedily, putting her worries behind her.
After every one had eaten their fill the clan members exited the feasting hall and Lydia watched as Makari lead the way with Odalia, talking to her about the business of the pack. Lydia never felt uncomfortable under the watchful gaze of the Clan Matron, but she did feel some connection with her as she did with Pearlita. Yet there was something about Tatianna that she could not quite put her finger on.
It was as if she and the enchantress had an under-standing that no one else could have. But Lydia had a strange suspicion about it, for she had never really spoken to Tatianna in depth. It almost seemed to her as if the lover of Makari could see inside of Lydia and understood the huntress' thoughts more that Lydia cared to know. And this made the hazel eyed girl uneasy and weary of the fourth mate's watchful eye.
