So Cold

So cold

This is just something I wrote during a very bad period of writers block. It’s nothing more than jut over a page but maybe I’ll be inspired to finish more of my stories because of it. Who knows maybe one day I’ll write more to this as well until now it’s just as it is.

Time Period: 6235 AS
Location: Azeztulite (A world similar to earth that has similar technology but where magic and mythical creatures still exist)
Character: Rane

Cold!

It was so cold. Rane hugged her arms around her body as she shivered. She shuffled her feet along the uneven floor until her arm brushed against the cold, damp wall and she jerked it back with the shock of the oozing iciness. She sniffed as a loan teardrop snaked its way down her cheek. “I shouldn’t be here… What have I done?”

Rane pulled her tunic sleeves over her hands trying to trap as much heat under the damp and torn material. Now that her hands were as shielded as much as they ever would be Rane reached out cautiously again for the wall.

“It’s too dark.” Rane gasped as her hand met once again with the slimy, frost-covered wall. Inky silence wrapped tightly around her as she fumbled along the wall. It was rough but not segmented or even. “Stone… not bricks then.” That explained why water was running down the walls, where ever she’d been thrown was either natural or carved out of something cliff-like.

After minuets of careful shuffling, Rane’s hand finally touched something different, something hard but this time smooth without the coarse bumps and dimples of the rock face. “A door… There’s a door?” Rane pounded her fist against the solid door that refused to even shake under her hand. “Let me out!” she wailed, her desperate pleas echoing back of the walls only to fall on her own ears. “What have I done? Please… Just tell me what I’ve done!” she pleaded to the unforgiving steal as she frantically hammered at the door.

Time seemed to stretch out in front of her like the barren tundra of her prison. With no windows it was hard to tell how long she thumped at the door, minutes could have been hours, hours a day, yet she still cried in the darkness by the door. Her hand stung from pounding on the door, her voice was horse with her ignored pleas. Her legs were growing weaker yet Rane’s resolve stood firm, as her body grew heavy and heavier until her legs could no longer hold her. The violent shivers that had once racked her body began to slow. She wavered on her feet, leaning heavily against the door until standing was too much effort, her body sliding slowly down the frosty door.

Frozen tears clung to her cheeks and eyelashes making it hard to keep her eyes open, every time they closed it took more and more effort to open them again. The darkness around her that once was sharp and blinding was even beginning to become fuzzy and out of focus… It didn’t seem as close anymore.

Rane sank to her knees learning on the door, she was cold and wet but that didn’t seem to matter anymore, in the war of wills she was losing… sleep was getting the better of her and denial was setting in. “I’ll get the door open… I will.” She made another feeble attempt to get the door open but it did nothing more than use up the last of her will power. “I just need to rest a while.” Her eyes fluttered shut for the last time. Still, with no answers as to what she done to deserve dieing alone.
