Toys On the Shelves
Her toys upon the shelves stared down
Idyllic was the room, seemingly innocent
Days spent playing with her dolls
Nights hugging her bear close
Though sightless their button eyes saw horrors
As the girl grew to womanhood
They could do little more than pray
Whenever she was violated
Tormented by the man, she should trust the most
All too soon the days turned into years
And the toys upon the shelves so old and dusty
Saw new terrors with their plastic eyes
As the girl sought love in ways unimaginable
Soon the girl turned to drugs, hoping to forget
And still the toys prayed for her
Not able to hold her close and console her
Once again the days turned to years
The girl now a young woman
All her life, nothing but hardships
The toys upon the shelves, now with cobwebs
Wept invisible tears from their sightless eyes
Wishing they could tell here "I love you"
The girl herself wept as she told them good bye
Then she gave up, surrounded by her only friends
The toys upon the shelves.
