"What?!"
My name is Isabelle, your average, every day college student. Right now I'm having a major Freakfest. I just found out that my big sister is getting married. That in itself is surprising, but then I found out that he's a prince! He rules over some obscure little country in Europe that I've never heard of and can't pronounce to save my life.
Summer break will be starting soon, so my sis has invited the family to go visit her fiancé in his homeland so we can all get acquainted before the wedding. Hanna is going to live with him there when they get married. She's graduating from college this year and has nothing worthwhile here in the States, so they decided it would be best.
Sorry, getting back to me. I'm nineteen, a sophomore in college. I'm really nothing special. I come from a relatively poor family. The only spending money I get is from my job. I spend most of that on clothes because I'm tired of wearing hand-me-downs and clothes that are too small or falling apart.
My hair is light brown, reaching to my shoulders with long layers and my eyes are gray. I absolutely hate myself. I'm not pretty at all and I'm always being made fun of and ridiculed. That, paired with lingering mental and physical abuse as well as low self-esteem and being overweight are contributing factors to my cutting.
Since before I can remember, I've been hurting myself. Punching, slapping, pulling hair, pinching, etc. I just never realized that it was classified as self-infliction. Then I started cutting senior year of high school, when I was seventeen. I only cut maybe twice. Then I went off to college and I had a multitude of supplies at my disposal.
I started cutting more frequently. Now the top of my thighs closest to my hips are littered with red-purple scars. My right wrist has a few new cuts on it, covered up with one of my new wristy-cuffs. I have cuts of all different sizes and colors littering the lower part of my stomach, to right above my knees. Most of them are nothing, hardly bleeding at all and fading away to where only I can see them.
But, getting back on track, it was such a shock. We had no idea she had been seeing anyone AT ALL, much less this seriously. Mom and dad were more than a little excited, but were afraid she was rushing things. Not that Hanna cared what our parents thought.
Final exams came to an end. Everyone was scurrying around, trying to move out as soon as possible. My things got stuffed into our too-small-house. I always end up sharing a bed with my other sister, tossing and turning, the twin size bed too small for two teenage girls.
A few days later we all packed up our bags, ready to head to the airport. Hanna's fiancé is filthy rich, so he paid for all of our round trip tickets, even putting us in first class. It was like a dream. I had never flown first class before, but I swore to myself I would never ride coach again.
I fell asleep on the giant puff of cloud they call seats, waking up a few hours before our expected arrival time. They were just a few minutes into "The Wedding Crashers," which I had never seen before, so I decided to watch it. The time until we landed seemed to draw on and on, as if it were days to our destination instead of hours.
We finally landed sometime later, going to the baggage claim to gather our things. On our way out of the airport we saw a man holding up a sign saying "Night family." We all walked over to him. Turns out that the prince had sent a limo to pick us up. Roxors!
It was so totally cool! I'd never been near a limo, much less in one.
We arrived at the prince's castle in the late afternoon. It was hard to believe that any of this was happening. Perhaps it's all a dream and I'll wake up soon, disappointed and with final exams right around the corner.
