Cricket Noises
I dreamt of cricket noises tonight
and the crickets as monks,
dressed in green grass robes
chanting, "mea culpa, mea culpa."
They pirouetted
on a swollen tongue of grass
and their little green wings fanned
an open fire upon it.
And I saw words
coming out of the flames,
words that I had spoken
and they burned me.
