Changes
Chapter One – Changes
Has anyone ever been in once of those situations where you know, no matter what, that you have to help someone? Well, I have and it wasn\'t an easy thing to do. Let me explain...
Me and my friend Patrick are really close; we do almost everything together. I first met when when we were about four years old. I\'d just moved to a new home and he was my neighbor. At first, our mom\'s began to talk to one and other as they were hanging out the laundry or trimming the flowerbeds. It was only a matter for time before Patrick and I met and when we did, it was an instant friendship. We\'re both fifteen now and still in middle school until next year.
Anyway, about eight years ago, Patrick\'s dad died in car accident. Everyone who knew him in the neighborhood were totally depressed but no one more so than Kelly, Patrick\'s mom. For a few months she used to cry at no apparent reason and stupidly forget that she\'d left the oven on or forgotten to lock the door when she was out.
Around a year ago, Kelly then started to date a new guy. Patrick and his older sister, Jaime, were totally for it. They both said that Kelly should do what made her happy and if dating made that happen then so be it.
But a few changes began to develop in Patrick. For the first few months of his mom\'s new relationship, he acted normally but when Peter, Kelly\'s boyfriend, moved into their house, Patrick wasn\'t the same boy I\'d met all those years ago. For example, when we both got cell phones at Christmas we used to stay up to like four o\'clock in the morning texting each other and wasting all our credit. Now, I text Patrick and he says he needs to sleep and to stop. When I talk to him at school he seems very tired and jumpy and latley I\'ve noticed than when Peter\'s in the room, he seems to either lose his voice or leave the room.
I was really getting worred about him beyond the friendship line. I cared for Patrick like a brother, even though I do have an annoying little squirt of a brother Mike. But when I found out what was going on, I became even more worried and very protective of him and that was something Peter didn\'t like...
