The cleaner

The blood spattered on the floor was the only evidence that anyone else had been in the room. There was no way that a suicide could have left that kind of mess. Yet the doors were all locked from the inside and all the windows were closed. There was no evidence of the cleaner any where in the room, but it was one of her signatures. This hired killer was one of the best. No one knew her name, had ever taken a picture of her or had managed to find one shred of evidence solid enough to convict her of the multiple murders she had committed. The only thing connecting any of these murders was the small coins left on her victims eyes. She challenged the police in every city she visited. She left clues as to who her next victim would be and to this day she had never failed to acquire a target. She showed no remorse for anything she had done. They called her the Cleaner. When ever someone had a compromising situation to be taken care of they found her. She would dispose of their problem, for a hefty sum of money of course. Her title had become synonymous with death, any one who had ever seen her face never lived to tell the tale. Her next assignment was no different than any other. Some navy petty officer had been privy to delicate materials. She was to seek and destroy as quietly as possible. It was just an ordinary assignment, until she allowed her heart to be compromised.
Sam McCannon was preparing for her first day of work at the small car parts company where her target worked. She had memorized the picture given to her by her employer. Her target wasn’t anything special, she had killed diplomats, congressmen, even foreign presidents. Elli Jacobs was just an ex navy petty officer, he had no protection, and probably no idea just how close he was to death. Sam had spent years perfecting her talent. At college she had studied criminal justice, anatomy and physiology, but her favorite had to have been psychology. She loved getting under people’s skin. Learning their fears and weaknesses and then using them against them. It also made it easier to extract information, fear was a powerful motivator. Sam had been for warned that the side job she was taking on to get close to her target wouldn’t be easy and was extremely filthy work. She had almost laughed at that. If only they knew the irony of their own statement. She dressed in an old pair of Levi jeans and a tight black t-shirt. She had a well sculpted body. She trained hard to keep herself in shape. Her job often required stealth, flexibility, and strength, none of these things would come easily if she let herself go. Legs that didn’t seem to stop, an ample bust line, and since she was only in her early twenties, she still had that youthful buoyancy that men found irresistible. She knew that she wasn’t supermodel beautiful, but she had this air of confidence about herself that drew people to her. Her long brown hair and emerald green eyes made her even more approachable. She was hoping to grab Elli’s attention with her womanly ways. Most men she had dealt with were easily swayed by her good looks; she figured he would be no exception to this. After hiding her favorite dagger in her steel toed boots she grabbed her keys and headed out. She paused long enough in front of the mirror hanging behind her front door, to check over her appearance. She blew a kiss at her reflection, “Time to work.”
She acted just like any other employ would on their first day of work. Pleasantries were exchanged between her and a Mrs. Morgan Tanni, the woman to whom she was to report to. Mrs. Tanni was her supervisor; she was a pleasant enough woman. She was petite and slightly round but had a warm smile and firm hand shake. She didn’t look the type to get angry quickly, but Sam was willing to bet if she pushed to right buttons this little woman would go off like a firework. Mrs. Tanni showed her around the shop and then showed her were she would be stationed. This was working out to perfectly. Elli bounced between two different stations all day and she was right smack dab in the middle of his path from station to station. He was sure to notice her as he walked passed. She had started working an hour before he was due to arrive, but patient was a virtue in her line of work. As she worked she eyed her location, making sure her line of vision was as uninhibited as possible. Right at five o’clock Elli walked passed on his way to check his first station. She smiled at him and tried to get his attention, all he did was nod his head and continue on his way not even stopping to take a second look. “Well this will be a little more of a challenge then I thought it would be. Oh goody.”
