Ode to a Pickled Onion
Ode to a Pickled Onion
You look so innocent
Sitting in the sink
Until you’ve been topped and tailed
And then comes the stink
Layer after layer
Of skin must be removed
Pile them on a dish
I’m sure Haywood’s would approve
The scent of onions up your nose
Your eyes are full of tears
Lay them on a dish, cover them with salt
Pickling time will soon be here
Put them into the jar
And pour the vinegar on
Screw on the lid nice and tight
Or soon they’ll all be gone
They’ve sat a while and pickled
And now they’re ready to eat
Nice and crunchy, very tart
They really are a treat
Yum
You look so innocent
Sitting in the sink
Until you’ve been topped and tailed
And then comes the stink
Layer after layer
Of skin must be removed
Pile them on a dish
I’m sure Haywood’s would approve
The scent of onions up your nose
Your eyes are full of tears
Lay them on a dish, cover them with salt
Pickling time will soon be here
Put them into the jar
And pour the vinegar on
Screw on the lid nice and tight
Or soon they’ll all be gone
They’ve sat a while and pickled
And now they’re ready to eat
Nice and crunchy, very tart
They really are a treat
Yum
