The night that changed his life

***

I was lying on my bench, on the park I always was. It was really clear night, I could see all the stars. It wasn’t windy at all, bit cold though. About minus three Celsius and my breath was steaming. There I was, lying on my back, on my bench. Watching up to the skies, seeing all the stars I ever could. And then he came. Out of nowhere and still from everywhere. I was stunned by the spirit that was exhaling from him, by the halo of him. At first I didn’t see him, I just felt him, this really warm feeling filled me inside and suddenly my vision blurred. When I could see again, all I saw was him. His eyes linked straight to mine. I couldn’t see the stars anymore, because he was on the way, but I really didn’t care.
-Umm… could you move a bit, please? Move your legs, or something? He asked shyly from the man that was lying on the bench.
-Oh, yes, sure… sorry, I’m just used to lie around in here, the other said as he moved himself on a sitting position.
-Thanks, the other whispered, just loud enough for the other to hear. He sat on to the bench, next to the other man, next to the stranger. There they were, next to each other on a cold January night, clear as water.

Silence, silence was all they could hear. For the one that had been lying there, it was awkward; the other didn’t think so. The other felt warm inside for the first time for long. He was smiling softly, watching all the twinkling stars above, his hands laying on his lap. The other man also forgot the awkwardness and lifted his head up; right where he was looking before the stranger had came and changed his night, maybe even the rest of his life. Suddenly the silence was broke by the one who came later.
-Beautiful.
-You’re right…
-It just doesn’t make any sense.
-What?
-We are so small… everything is a lot bigger then we are. I could never imagine that all those little sparkling diamonds up there are really that much bigger than we. We are so small, that it’s funny and crazy and totally unbelievable.
-True. I’ve never really thought of that, but now that you said it, it really seems unreasonable.
-Yes… and I mean how could there be anything this beautiful in this whole messed up universe.
-You’re right, I can’t even watch it any more, nor think of it. It’s too much, too much for me to understand.
-I know. We can’t watch it anymore.
-But it captures you so completely.
-It does… both of them were quiet again, they watched the stars as this sort of warmth surrounded them.

For a long time they just sat there, heads upwards, looking up to the skies. Until, the other broke the silence again.
-Let’s go for a walk, shall we? The one who had came earlier was at least a bit suprised. After all, he didn’t know the other one at all. They were totally strangers for each. The curiosity, how ever, took over his suspicions and he agreed.
-Yes, why not. It’s a beautiful night and everything.
-Come on, let’s walk around in this park. The other said and arose from the bench. He offered his hand to the other. A little trace of a question visited his face before he grabbed a hold of the other ones’ hand. They both of them felt, how a warm and a tingling feeling arose from their joined hands. As they walked along it crept upper and upper on their hands, inside the veins, at the surface of the skin, at every part of their hands. Until it reached their hearts, poured it self in there, like hot lava flooding into the smallest little holes of the earth. They both felt it, and they both knew exactly what it was. It was something impossible, something that was not even real. Something that they both knew it didn’t exist. And yet, still. Still it had happened, something that never really could. It was love at first sight. But that was not true. Love at first sight never was, everyone knew that. But still… the flames inside both if them were enormous, fire burning every last bit of their souls.

They stopped their walking, tried to avoid each gaze that only was there for a moment. A little glance that escaped in a second. Till they accidentally looked straight to each eyes. Locked them up. Both of their other hand travelled to meet each. Grabbed a hold, so that both of their hands were linked, unnoticed. The world was spinning around them; they were the only thing that didn’t move. Little flies of light swinging on the corners of their vision. Everything happened very fast, sooner than they noticed, their lips were touching each. Pressed against, the other hand still linked the other travelling around on their faces, and bodies. Passionate kiss after another. Tongues tangling up together, moving around. In a perfect harmony.

When they broke the series of their kisses, both of them were breathless, trying to breathe again. Gasping from the lack of air. They were watching straight to each others eyes, trying to catch their breath. The air that came from their mouth was steaming like a maniac. It blurred the whole vision of theirs, all they could see was a soft picture of each other, framed by the night sky and somewhere really far away, the city lights.

They had walked to the centre of the park, on top of a little hill. It was the biggest park on the whole city, kind of a Central Park. The noises and rush of the city was all far away. Even though it was night, the city still was in a rush. It always was. It was one of the biggest cities in the whole world. The men were really same like, though they were really peaceful; they still lived in a big, noisy city like this. There always was this kind of attractiveness in big cities like this, if you knew how, you could always find a peace in middle of all the noise and rush.

When they came back to this reality, back to this time, both of them knew not to say anything. Silently they sat down on the top of the hill, hands still locked up. They didn’t want to brake the magic they had created between them. The taller man, the one that had been lying on that bench earlier, wrapped his other hand around the smaller mans shoulders. Again they were watching to the stars, somehow the stars made them feel the magic would go on and on, forever. Soon, sooner that they would ever had wanted, came the dawn. The darned dawn, that would tear them apart, away from each other. The smaller one was always the one to brake the silence and so did he this time too.
-The magic has to end. It always has to.
-I know, the taller one said, as a tear rolled down on his cheek.
-We will never see each other again.
-I know, just don’t go yet. I want to keep you as long as I can. I… I think I love you… no, I know that I love you.
-I know, and I love you too. But I also know that it would newer had worked.
-Yeah, it was love at first sight and that never works. He said as he sniffed.
-Don’t cry.
-I’m not crying.
-I know you aren’t.
-But you are.
-That’s not true.
-No, it isn’t.
-Hold me till the last second…
-I will, I always will. I’m gonna miss you.
-No, don’t miss me. Don’t you dare to miss me. Remember me, don’t miss me. Missing is not a good feeling, remembering is.
-I’ll remember you, I promise you that.
-Good, take care of our memento. One last kiss was given and taken, before the smaller one left. He arose from the warmth of the other, turned his back and left. The one that was left to sit there alone, kissed his finger tips and touched the image of a vanishing back against the horizon for the last time. Tears were rolling down on his cheeks, as he knew this was the last time he saw the man.

It was love at first sight, it could never had lasted.
