Lies
Prologue
As I lie there on the beach’s shore, I watched the sunset turn into nightfall. Oh how I loved the colors of the sky against the water. The pink, red, and orange creating a mixture of color surrounding the sun as it’s just about to go. The sun’s rays beaming through the clouds and across the sky.
Since I was very little, everyday I used to watched the sunset with my mother and sometimes we would even take some pictures. Then it would turn into the hours of darkness and we would then look at the stars. And after, the same thing would happen again the next day. But all that changed the night my mother died.
“Go Angel,” her mother whispered, “Go run for help.”
“No mama. I’m scared.”
“Please!” Her mother was dragged away with hands as big as Angel’s face. Angel saw her mother scream in agony as she was pulled away from her. She got up and ran up the stairs , into her room, and into her closet. Her mother had built a secret opening in her closet that leads to a very tiny hall, just big enough for angel to stand and that hall leads to a window.
“Go get the child.”
As Angel entered her closet she heard her mother yell for her to go.
“Angel run!” she heard her mother say followed by a slap.
Angel got frightened and dropped the doll she was caring. She went down the little hallway that led to an emergency window. She opened the window and soon realized that she was going to jump from a two-story house at night. She heard a man grunt and curse to himself. She turned to find a man trying to go through the tiny hall she just entered. But since the hall was made for her use only, he had trouble getting through. But he could get through. Angel whimpered at the closing space between her and the man. Then she got a sudden idea. She climbed on the ledge of the window and tried to jump on the lower roof. But her shoelace got caught in a nail on the ledge. The man was closing in. He reached out his arm, but he wasn’t close enough. He went up 3 inches and then reached out.
Angel was still trying to get her shoelace out. She saw the man reach his hand out a second time. Angel leaned back a little so he couldn’t grab her. This action angered the man so he growled and swung at her. He realized that if he got a little closer he could swing at her and grab her arm.
“Come on stupid shoe!” Angel screamed inside.
The man swung at her again and got a hold of her arm this time. Angel screamed and panicked. She finally decided to take off her shoe and slap it against the man’s head. By this time, he was tugging her to him. He pulled her backward, and angel took her shoe off and swung it at the man, along with the nail. The nail had slapped him as well, causing his face to bleed and also leaving a mark for quite a few weeks.
“Ah! You little bitch!“ the man yelled.
Angel jumped off the window ledge and onto the lower roof. She was very little so her legs weren’t that strong. She fell on her legs causing her to gasp in pain. She got up and ran across the roof. There was a ladder from the day before. She climbed the ladder and when she looked up at the window she saw the man jumping out the window and onto the roof. She climbed faster. When she got to the bottom , she pulled the ladder down so the man couldn’t get down.
The roof was too high for him to jump so he didn’t bother. Angel ran across the yard. But when she got in the middle, a man yelled something and the door went swinging open. There stood the man in charge of all this chaos and her mother. Angel’s eyes became wide as she saw the scene before her. The man had a knife to her mothers throat.
“If you want your mother to live, you come here right now.” the man had a dangerously calm tone.
“No, Angel please.” her mother barely spoke above a whisper. The man pulled her hair back some more.
“Are you going to come here or am I going to?” the man asked. Her mother mouthed the word “No”, so Angel shook her head.
The man looked fairly angry. “Alright then,” he said to a normal tone.
He slid the knife across her mother’s throat so fast like a cobra killing a prey.
“No! Mommy!” she screamed like a child screaming for their mother not to leave them.
As Angel saw two men coming after her, she turned and ran. She turned a corner and kept running. The two men were catching up fast and she was getting tired quickly. She finally came across a park with trees surrounding it that look like a perfect hiding place. She went into the playground and into the jungle gym. She crawled in a tunnel and hid there till the guys passed her. When they did pass her, she held her breath. They stopped and looked around.
“Damn. Looks like she went off in that direction.” she heard one of then say. Until she saw that they were gone, she started to breathe again. Thinking of her mom, she started to cry. Tears started to flow unsteadily, so she cried herself to sleep.
