Story I : The Last One

*****
Darkchild steadied his gun arm atop the hood of his black sedan. Rain dripped steadily from the tip of his unwavering weapon and fell like a curtain of crystals down the front of his helmet. He was soaked. He’d been in the rain for hours. A part of his body registered that it was growing numb with cold. He told that part to shut up.

“I’m here”. He whispered softly into the incessant clapping of rain. He closed his eyes and felt a light touch on his mind. The thought’s of another person wavering slightly in his head.

Good…came the psychic afterthought. Do what you came to do!!!

Darkchild looked at the house in front of him. It was a nice slightly above middle-class type of house. It had a garden. There was a small pond, flowers were in full bloom, trees big and small surrounded the area. He faintly wondered how the garden would look like during daytime. There was a nice and well-respected family inside, sleeping peacefully amidst the harsh rain. They were the reason he was here.

He smiled , an evil and expectant smile. He moved forward, hardly making a sound. The rain grew harsher and the wind howled, vigorously blowing at him.

He stopped, lowering his head. The smile on his face only widen in anticipation. He was but a few inches from the white painted door. He tilted his head to the side. The owners had a dog, a golden retriever sleeping soundly to his right. Kneeling, he petted the sleeping dog. It wouldn’t wake, he knew it. Just as he knew that he could break in to the house with no fuss or worries about the family awakening. They wouldn’t wake up, and after tonight, Darkchild knew they would never awaken from their sleep again.
