Tokyo
Sorry, this chapter was written weeks apart, and so it is not what I expected it to be, and it is not the best first chapter, and I want to fix it, but currently unable to concentrate on this particular chapter. However, the second chapter is almost written already (I wrote it separately, and like it better so far) and I hope it\'ll be my normal stuff. This chapter was written while I was in a poor state of mind, I have lost 3 people this month and things were tough, and writing was hard to escape from. I will make this better, I promise, but this answers one question, and next chapter and beyond will be up to my normal snuff.
Chapter 1 – Tokyo
“Stop grabbing my ass while I’m trying to carry fragile lamps,” Fuji snapped at Devilin behind her, who was carrying a very heavy box with ease in just one hand. The cramped staircase was barely able to fit only one person at a time, and there was a line of people behind Fuji.
“How could the elevator break today?” Kyoei complained at the bottom of the stairs, his breath huffing out as sweat dripped down his neck. He and Devilin had brought all of the furniture up the three flight of stairs already, and now they were just finishing with the last of the boxes. Noriko Chenbaro-Tennison had gone all out in buying Fuji furniture, but she had not bothered to hire professionals to haul it upstairs for her.
“Stop wearing short skirts to carry furniture,” Devilin pointed out to Fuji, nudging her forward.
“I’m surprised your mom didn’t find a better apartment building,” Yuki said in disgust, looking at the graffiti on the walls of the stairwell. “What if a rapist lives in this building?”
“Do not mention rapists Yuki,” Shai said from just in front of Kyoei. “You’ll make us all kidnap Fuji and take her home.”
Fuji reached the landing and the door to her studio apartment. It was a small studio apartment compared to what her mother could have afforded. Her mother could have afforded a penthouse if she had wanted to, or for free just put Fuji up in one of her hotels, but she wanted Fuji to feel the life of someone who was not rich, though she would still be paying for everything. It was her way of still being Noriko, and trying to show Fuji how well she has it and not to blow it.
“One C and I will stop paying all of your bills and leave you to find a job as well as continue school, because you will not quit.” Noriko’s words were still clear in Fuji’s mind, but it mostly had everything to do with the fact that she kept repeating them. Every room in the house had been filled with notes for Fuji, threats of suing her if she failed out of this school.
“My mom has no faith in me,” Fuji had sighed, and then hopped in the truck that Kyoei was driving all of the way to Tokyo. She had told her friends that she would allow them to spend the night, as long as they behaved.
Kyoei was the last to enter the apartment, dropping the box unceremoniously upon the floor and then falling onto the couch that still had no placement. He flopped down and took out a loud sigh. “I have to do this all over again tomorrow,” he whined like the man he was.
Shai walked over to him and patted him on the back. “It’s okay sweetie,” she said softly. “I’ll be there with you.”
“Yeah, but you shouldn’t be lifting any heavy boxes,” Kyoei said, facing his girlfriend.
Everyone turned to look at them, expecting an announcement. Shai looked at them in wonderment, wondering why in the world they were all staring like that. “What?”
“She’s not pregnant,” Kyoei said, lying back on the couch. “I just think she should never be doing any heavy lifting. She’s a princess and deserves to be treated like one.”
“Awww,” came the collection of voices from around them and then they went around to arranging boxes and furniture, ignoring Shai and Kyoei as she sat next to him on the couch and began to kiss him in a fashion that even made Devilin flush.
“You should have seen how nervous she was when we went to Toudai to find out if she got in,” Devilin explained to Yuki, who had been looking very well distracted all day.
“Oh,” Yuki said, looking to Fuji, a bit surprised that her friend would show any type of emotion, especially nerves, to anyone. Fuji had been more and more standoffish the closer she had grown to going to Toudai, and once accepted she barely even celebrated. She walked into Shai’s house, stood with a knowing smile on her face, and held up her entry papers. She was among the few people, including Amatsu, who had been accepted at the last minute to the elite college.
“Of course I was,” Fuji said, her lack of emotion in the statement making Yuki wonder how much the girl was trying to hide. “I was making a life altering decision in the matter of a few weeks.”
Yuki said nothing, she just watched as Devilin suddenly grasped Fuji\'s hand and pulled her into the backroom, his subtlety at wanting to be with her alone nonexistent.
Shai popped her head up around the couch and looked over to Yuki. “Did you notice what ring Fuji was wearing?”
Yuki’s eyes widened. “No,” she said, suddenly having a large urge to go rushing back into the bedroom and check Fuji’s finger, though she had a large guess by the way Shai was looking at her.
Shai nodded. “Amatsu’s ring.”
“Kind of odd, don’t you think, that Fuji is wearing Amatsu’s ring, yet back there with Devilin?” Yuki looked towards the door, knowing very well what Devilin was trying to do to his girlfriend in there. She sighed, wishing that it was Shinwa doing those types of things to her, and suddenly she wanted to cry again. She was so frustrated with everyone being so happy, but she just held back her tears and looked towards Shai and Kyoei and said, “Let’s order pizza, on Fuji.”
