Love Ain't Possible
Face it, there is no one out there for me she thought to herself as she sat back and watched her sisters. Ta’nisha was the only one out of 4 children who had never been in love. Here she was on a Sunday afternoon surrounded by her family and all she wanted to do was leave. Her parents, Jim and Odella, had been married 35 years and still couldn’t keep their hands to themselves, disgusting. Then, there were her sisters and her younger brother. Tamara, 30 years old, had been married for 6 years and had one and a half children. Then, her 26 year old sister, Jimela had been married two years and to add to the dilemma her seventeen year old brother, Christian, was now in a relationship. Life could be no worse. At 24 Ta’nisha had gotten use to being alone. She had been through high school and college with out a man and she didn’t need one now. If only she could get her meddling family to see the same she would be all right. Every time she came near them they had a new guy for her to meet. She told them over and over again she didn’t need a man and she meant it. “I don’t need a man!”
“What?” Tamara looked at her as if she had said something. Damn did I say that out loud?
“Nothing,” she tried to look away and forget what she had just said, but her sister was not having that.
“Look Nisha we all know you say you don’t need a man, but there is this great guy at Daniel’s law firm. He would be prefect for you.”
“No, I do not want to meet him and I hope y…..”
“Yes I did, and he loved your picture. You two have a date for next Saturday night.”
“Mom! This girl is crazy,” Ta’nisha looked at her sister as if she would hit her, “You can not make dates for me like that. I will not go, so now you have to break it”
“Oh, no I won’t. Come on Nisha I need you to do this for me. Please.” Tamara got on her knees and would not leave Ta’nisha alone until she gave in.
“Ok, ok just leave me alone, but after this date you will learn to leave me alone for good.”
“Ok. Thank you. I know you will thank me later.” Tamara got up and smiled knowing that the knee trick got to her little Nisha every time.

When Ta’nisha got home that night she looked at the number Tamara had given her of this guy named…. “Damn, what is his name?” Not knowing the damn guy’s name was a good sign that the date would be the date from hell. Ta’nisha did not know why she always played right into her sister’s hand. She knew she did not want to date, but she still agreed. Anything to get her ass off the floor and away from me. Ta’nisha had been on ten dates her whole life and hated every one of them. At one point she thought she was gay, but then she looked at herself and knew that all that body the good Lord had given her would not be wasted on a woman and there was also the fact that she hated the idea of being gay. “No woman would touch this,” she spoke to no one in particular. Ta’nisha, at one time, thought that guys did not find her attractive, but again she looked in the mirror at herself and again knew that she was wrong. What guy would not love a 5’7 125 pound woman? She had long hair at one time, but had gotten it layered and now it was framed around her face stopping a little below her shoulder and many said it was the color and mocha, but actually it was copper-red, she should know she paid to get it done, but that was her secret. Her parents blessed each child with a lovely face. She got her hazel eyes from he mother and she got her mocha skin from her father’s side of the family. “So, why am I always the last one asked out?”
Ta’nisha was use to taking care of her self when it came to what a man was needed for. She had spent more money then she could count on toys that would make her feel as good as a man did, if not better. Mr. Peter was always ready to go whenever she needed him and he did not come with too much baggage, except for the plastic he came in. All she had to do to keep him happy was to keep a supply of energizer and Mr. Peter would keep going, going, and going. Her sisters thought she was pathetic to rely on a toy for her happiness, but when they complained about their husbands she knew that she was the lucky one. She had always believed that men only brought trouble and her life was too good for that kind of stuff. Now she had another problem to deal with, her sister’s match making problems. Every time Tamara fixed her up with someone the night ended badly for her and her date. One date that Tamara sent her on was with this guy that was stuck on his ex. They ended the date with her giving him advice he could use to get his ex back. She remember seeing him and this girl, she suppose was his ex, around downtown often, guess the advice helped.
Ta’nisha was happy with her life right now and didn’t feel like giving any more guys advice about love. All she really wanted to do right now was get some sleep and that’s exactly what she was going to do.

“Hold your horses,” Ta’nisha yelled as she ran into the house. She ran for the phone before the person decided to hang up. “He….Hello?” She breathed out trying to catch her breathe and throw her things down at the same time.
“Yes is this… um... Ta’nisha?”
“Sure if you want me to be” She wasn’t sure who was on the phone, but she knew it was a guy with a great voice and a nice laugh because he chuckled when she said her last line. “May I ask who is calling?”
“Oh sorry about that. This is Kevin, Kevin Jackson” Kevin was trying to be cool. He had gotten her number from his coworker’s wife and was having a hard time talking due to the fact it had taken him eight days to finally contact her.
“Should I know a Kevin Jackson because if I should I’m really sorry because I don’t”
“I work with Daniel, your brother. Your sister gave me your number. She kind of fixed us up on a date. She said she told you about it…….. and if she didn’t I…… just made the biggest fool of my self.”
This was the guy she was suppose to meet. Kevin Jackson sounds like a nice name. Why was he calling when the date was like a week away? Maybe he had to cancel. Good, I didn’t want to go anyway. “Attorney Kevin Jackson? Yes she did tell me about our date. I just never got your name. But don’t be worried you do not sound like a fool.” Ta’nisha was starting to flirt a little with Kevin because for some odd reason she felt comfortable with him. “Um I was going to call you later in the week, but if you need to cancel our date I understand. It w…..”
“No. I just wanted to talk to you. It felt a little weird setting up a date through your sister, but then I thought maybe you do that a lot.”
“No Kevin I don’t. Tamara just thinks I need a man and she just goes up to any man and hope he is the man for me.”
“So I’m not the lucky first?”
“Sorry, but no you are not” Ta’nisha started to laugh.
Their conversation came easy for both of them. Neither worried about the words they used or the way they talked they just enjoyed each other’s company. He would say something that was not even that funny and she would laugh just because. While talking to Kevin Ta’nisha learned that they had a lot in common, he himself had not dated a lot, spending most of his time in school getting his degree, but unlike Ta’nisha he was not a virgin. “Guys always find time for that,” Ta’nisha laughed because she knew he was right.
“Kevin sorry to ruin the night, but I really need to go. I have to cook and clean then get ready for work tomorrow.”
Kevin was quiet for a minute before saying that he himself needed to get going. They promised to talk again later before they hung up.

Ta’nisha lay in bed that night thinking about Kevin and the fact that just maybe her sister got it right this time. “That will be the day.”
