Life’s Wounds
Pain strikes as I see them
The wounds upon my wrist
Those wounds that bleed and stain my hands
As I slice into my veins
That crimson flow that I do see
The pain that I do feel
But none of this occurs to me
As the release calms my soul
Sick you say, to harm yourself
To revel in the stabbing ache
To bask in the life’s blood I lose
Just to receive some emotional gain
To cry to me is weakness
And one I cannot afford
But what is right and what is wrong
How can anyone say?
I’ve come to enjoy that pain,
That small release of life
The sight, the smell, the taste of my blood
Became a comfort to me
If that makes me less human
Or degrades me in your eyes
Then don’t worry about a thing
It’s not your life being ruined
It’s mine.
