Sweet Insanity: Chapter One: The Beginning

Kurai slowly opened his eyes and looked at the person who shook him awake. His mother sat next to him on his bed and she smiled. “Good morning.” She said and moved some hair out of her son’s face.

“Morning?” Kurai sat up and began to rub his eyes.

“Yes morning,” she stood up, “I tried to wake you last night for supper but you wouldn\'t wake up.” She smiled again. “So do you want to eat breakfast?” She asked.

Kurai looked at his mother for a moment then nodded. He slid out of his bed and walked out of his room, his mother behind him. When he got to the kitchen he noticed the wine cabinet was open and knew his mother must have had a bottle to wake herself up.

“Good morning Kurai,” his father said smiling.

“Kurai, here you go.” His mother placed a plate of food at his spot.

He nodded and took his place next to his father and brother. He looked down at his plate, it had eggs, pancakes, and sausage on it. He picked up his fork and began to eat.

“Did you sleep well?” Gardinia asked and he nodded.

“Not very talkative today are you?” Akari asked and Kurai shook his head. “Oh. Hmm... I wonder why?” he asked no one, smiling.

“Stuff....” Kurai said putting a piece of pancake in his mouth.

“Oh... What kind of stuff?” his father asked.

Kurai just shook his head and said, “I don\'t want to talk about it.”

“YOu can tell me if you want to.” His mother said picking up her wine bottle and drank from it.

“Akira do you have to drink this early in the morning?” Valyti asked his wife who set the bottle on the table.

She sighed and said, “Vally... when did I never not have a drink this early?” He shrugged. “That\'s what I thought.” She said taking another swig of the wine.

Kurai set his fork down on the empty plate and stood up. “.... May I be excused?” He asked.

“Why don\'t you sta-” His father started but his mother interrupted.

“Sure Kurai.” His mother said and Kurai nodding, and left.

“Akira!” Valyti said. “I would like to be with my family until I’m finished with breakfast.”

“Its not my fault you eat slow. Or Kurai’s.” Akira said standing up.

“Wait, where are you going?” Valyti asked her.

“Umm.... work.” she grabbed her cloak off the back of her chair. “I wont be home for about a week.” She adjusted her dark green cloak around her. “So my estimate is.”

“But.... When were you planning on telling me this?” He asked his wife.

Akari and Gardinia exchanged looks, stood up and left.

“I was going to tell you as I was about to head out of the door.” She said smiling.

Valyti looked at Akira in disbelief. His heart felt like it sank a little and he looked down at the table, hurt.

Akira walked behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. She laid her head on his back and smiled to herself. “Don’t worry Valyti, I’ll be back before you notice I’m gone.”

He was quiet and just starred at the table.

Akira let go and went in front of him. “Valyti?” She asked concerned. “Hey.... come on... say something.” She waited for a few moments. “Please Valyti...” She looked sad and about to cry. “I’m sorry....” she said and looked down. She began to walk away and said, “I’ll just go now.” She turned around and was about to leave when she felt arms go around her. She smiled and held Valyti’s arms with hers.

Akari walked into Kurai’s room and saw him laying on his bed on his back. He smirked to himself and casually walked in. He walked to the side of the bed and saw his brother asleep. He climbed on the bed and sat on his brothers stomach. He watched him breath for a moment and then poked his side.

Kurai jumped awake and sighed. “What do you want?” He asked looking up at his brother.

“Hey. Want to go in the woods with me and Gardinia?” Akari asked hopeful.

Kurai groaned. “But I’m tired....” he said closing his eyes.

“Awww... C’mon please?” he said leaning down on Kurai.

Kurai sighed and turned his head to the left. “Akari... I’m tired. I had those weird images again...”

Akari looked concerned. “YOu had them again? you should tell mommy or daddy. Maybe they can help you or something.”

Kurai shut his eyes for a moment and sighed. “I don\'t think they would be able to understand.”

Akari sat up and had his hands on Kurai’s shoulders. “But... If you sleep... Didn\'t you say that they come more when your asleep?” he asked.

Kurai looked up at his brother. “... Yes, yes they do.”

“Then you should stay awake and come with me and Gardinia in the woods.” He said, leaning down on Kurai again.

Kurai sighed again and said, “Alight, I’ll come.”

Akari smiled and bounced up. “Yeah!” he clapped and climbed off of his brother. “Hurry, hurry! Lets go!”

Kurai sat up and looked at Akari jumping up and down. “Let me put on my shoes,” he said getting out of his bed and grabbing his boots.

“Where do you two think your going?” A voice said and they both looked over at the doorway to see their father.

“Me and Kurai and Gardinia are going in the woods to explore and find treasure!” Akari said jumping again.

Valyti sighed. “Everyone is leaving me...”

“What do you mean daddy?” Akari asked/

“First your mother, now you three...” he slouched and shut his eyes.

“Mother left already?” Kurai asked.

Valyti looked up, over to Kurai and said, “I see... she tells you guys but she doesn\'t tell me... “

“She didn\'t tell me.” Kurai said.

“Then how do you know?” his father looked confused.

Kurai was silent. He didn\'t want to tell his father he could see things. He might think that he was crazy and hate him.

“Your going to have to tell them sooner or later...” Akari said to his brother.

“Tell us what?” Valyti asked getting confused.

“I.. well... um... Mother did tell me.... I’m sorry I lied.” Kurai said.

“Kurai...” Akari looked over at his brother.

“I don\'t want to! Not yet!” Kurai yelled pushing himself past his father and running down the stairs. He opened the front door and left.

Valyti was quiet and starred after his son. He heard Akari sigh and then walk past him, following his brother.
