Sometimes It's The Bad
Holly looked down at her essay for the millionth time that hour. She couldn’t believe how boring school was and yet everyone thought that she loved it. She was even voted ‘most likely to return to teach’ for the junior class poll just 2 months ago. No one knew the real Holly, not the girl who was afraid of spiders or the girl who hated the color yellow just because. Not even the girl who cut herself to forget about the pain and feel good once in awhile. Holly Jayne Hart was someone no one knew; just someone they thought they could predict. Once the bell rang she shoved her essay back into her bag and walked as fast as she could out to the parking lot; however, not fast enough.
“Miss. Hart, May I please speak with you for a minute in my office?” Holly quickly covered her hatred in her face for Mr. Weeb, the principal.
“Yes Mr. Weeb, no problem.” All Holly could do was fallow Mr. Weeb into his office and pray the bus didn’t leave without her.
“Holly, I’ve been meaning to ask you about your summer plans.” Right then and there Holly Hart could have shot that man in the head. She was going to miss her bus to be asked to tutor kids during the summer.
“Actually, I was going to ask you tomorrow if I could tutor this summer again.” Holly shined her fakest smile at the man across from her. Perhaps if she played along she’d still be able to catch her bus.
“That’s wonderful, I was hoping you’d like to again. Because of you, Tom Jepson was able to pass his math class last year.” Holly smiled again and pretended like she was interested in what he was saying. “Well, since you already filled out the forms last year and I take it you haven’t moved from your home. Have you?”
“No sir.” Holly quickly looked at the clock. 3:15, maybe the bus would be running late today.
“Well then, everything is set and I’ll give you your student at the end of the week.” Mr. Weeb smiled and leaned back in his chair. Holly quickly stood up, said good-bye and thank to Mr. Weeb and walked out to try and catch her bus. Sadly once she was out the door she was able to see the bus at least 2 block away from the school. What was she suppose to do now? Her house was too far away to walk and she didn’t really have any friends that could or would want to drive her. Holly was stuck at school till her mother or father came home from work and noticed she wasn’t there; which would take a proximately 3 hours. Holly walked over the a large tree, sat down and fell against it.
“Do you smoke?” A strong male voice asked as it sat down next to her. Once Holly opened her eyes and turned to look at who was sitting next to her and talking to her she was surprised to find Nathan Court to be the one.
“Umm, no.” Holly wasn’t really sure how to react toward him.
“You know how hard it is find someone in this town who does. I must say ‘DARE’ did their fucking job here.” He flicked his cigarette into the grass and turned to smile at Holly. Holly soon found herself blushing at the sight of his piecing ice blue eyes Everything about Nathan Court was contrasting. He had creamy white skin, onyx black hair, ice blue eyes, and he dressed like a rock star had sex with a Goth. He was beautiful and Holly soon turned when she realized she had been starring.
“Need a ride home?” Holly looked back towards Nathan only to find him no longer sitting next to her but standing in front of her with his hand out stretched to help her to her feet.
“It’s too far. I’d rather not put you out of your way.” Holly smiled lightly, but only to hide the huge smile she felt would appear if she didn’t conceal it.
“Well, were do you live?” Nathan continued to stand in front of her, but had moved his hand to scratch his head lightly.
“28 N. Rice St.”
“Wouldn’t ya know it, I live just down the block from ya! Come on!” Nathan bent down and grabbed Holly’s bag and started to walk towards his car. Holly didn’t have any choice but to follow since she was far too tired to argue with him. Nathan tossed her bag in the front seat of a black convertible with stark white interior. Who knew ‘bad-boys’ would have such a nice car?
“Thank you.” She said as Nathan shut the door once she got in. Holly looked up and noticed him smiling widely like a kid coming out of the dentist holding their stick and a new toothbrush. Seeing him like that caused her to smile and laugh a little.
“What are you laughing at?” Nathan said as he pulled out of the school parking lot.
“Oh nothing, never mind.” Holly looked down at her hands and hoped he wouldn’t push to know.
“Fine, I’ll let it go this time.” Nathan smirked lightly at Holly who look up at him wondering what he meant and if he was thinking about having a ‘next time’.
“You don’t really live on Rice St. do you?” Nathan Court was surprising her today.
“Nope.”
“Then why drive me home if you don’t live near me?” Holly was confused since she couldn’t really find a common thread in his logic.
“Today’s Friday.”
“What kind of answer is that?”
“My kind of answer.” Nathan looked over at Holly again and smiled. Holly soon realized Nathan Court was much more than met the eye. Then Nathan looked away and coughed lightly. “You’re starring again and we’re in front of your house.” Holly’s cheeks flushed quickly, she grabbed her bag then jumped from the car yelling a quick thank you as she walked into her house. Holly Hart couldn’t even believe what had happen, she had somehow formed a crush on Nathan Court on the drive home and wanted to know everything about him. Little did she know, Nathan Court had thought the same thing a few years back and he had found out most everything about Holly Hart.
