ch. 1

Sam was nervous. This was not a surprise considering things. After all, he who had been a Bamma boy all his 18 years, never left his native state before, and hardly ever left Talladega for more than a day, was in a entirely new world Florida. While admittedly not far from Alabama, it seemed a lot different to him and especially since he was lost. And to make matters worse he wasn’t very athletic. He was 5.4 with hair so blond it was white and under his wire frame glasses he hade eyes chocolate brown. Besides reading he loved to swim and it showed with his body. He wished for quite possibly the millionth time that he hadn’t let his best friend, Mandy talk him into this vacation
Sam knew that Mandy thought he needed a \"walk on the wild side\" to \"make a man out of him.\" After all, hadn\'t she just told him that this morning? And really, what did he have to be nervous about anyway? Mandy was basically a good girl, and he always had a great time with her. Sam and Mandy met in high school and immediately clicked. He thought of how they had the same sense of humor and liked basically the same things. He had once planned a date and had all the right things; candle light, food, and even \"Amanda\" (which was Mandy\'s real name) by Waylon Jennings playing when she walked in, but it just didn\'t happen for them. They had decided they were better as friends. Sam shook himself from his reverie. No time to rehash old memories.
Especially since he had apparently lost Mandy, or more likely the other way around. \"That’s what you get for daydreaming,\" he told himself. (He has a habit of talking to himself when thinking.) Sam looked around, a trifle helplessly; he was on a sidewalk in front of what was apparently an abc store. There was a crowd passing on ether side of him pushing back and forth careless of the young man standing nervously on the sidewalk. \"Hey Sam, what are you doing over there!\" and there across the street was Mandy tapping her sandals with her hands on her hips with a look on her face that was a cross between amusement and exasperation. I swear, Mandy thought, I need to get a toddler leash for that boy and even then he’d find some way to get lost. \"Hey there you are!\" Sam shouted, \"Wait a sec and I’ll be right over!\" Then, before Mandy could say anything, Sam gave a quick look left then right then started to dash across the street, not noticing the look of horror on Mandy’s face. \"Look out!!!!\"
Sam noticed too late just what Mandy had seen. A bulldozer was pulling out of the lot next door headed right into the street and on top of him. Of course, typical for Sam, he completely froze. He had time for only one thought, \"I can\'t die this far from home.\" Suddenly, strong arms were pulling Sam out of the way just in the nick of time. Sam looked up expecting to see Mandy\'s green eyes staring at him accusingly below her raven bangs. But instead he saw the biggest guy he\'d ever seen. \"Dude. You could have been killed. Do you normally dash out in front of bulldozers? Or are you retarded?” said the gorgeous construction worker who was standing head and shoulders above him shaking his head. Just then Mandy appeared by his side. \"Sam! I thought I was going to lose you for sure this time!” said a startled Mandy as she enfolded him into a bone-crushing hug. Typical of her, she was on to the next subject saying, \"I\'ll lecture you later. Who\'s the hunk?\"
Jonny looked down at the young man in his arms. He seemed a year younger then his own 19 years. The young man seemed dazed and confused as he looked at the girl who had just rushed up. But truthfully, Jonny only had eyes for the man he had in his arms. He seemed to be his exact opposite. Jonny was six ft. tall with big capable hands with calluses that come from hard work. He had the tan of a body that spent most of his life outdoors. His eyes were the blue of the sky just after a good rain. He had hair the color of a night without stars that barely reached his shoulders when it wasn’t tied back and his body wasn’t like an over muscled weight lifter but it was plain to see in his sweat soaked, white wife beater, blue jeans, and steel toe work boots that he had muscles to spare. In other words, he looked more than capable handling any situation. Jonny couldn’t help but stare at the guy in his arms. (Whose name was apparently Sam.) He was so cute it felt like he was made to fit in his arms, and as Jonny looked into his eyes he thought Sam might feel the same way.
