college girl
:: The characters are as of yet nameless because to be honest I don\'t know what to call them yet. Their very loosely based off of friends of mine but what they do (or what they don\'t do) is completely from my head. Anyway there may be more chapters later but I can\'t say for sure yet ... anyway enjoy! =^__^= ::
I finally saw my chance and today I was going to do it. After watching her from a distance I finally mustered the courage to go talk to her today. Her short curly auburn hair fell over those dark and beautiful eyes as she remembered who I was. I smiled sweetly and asked if I could sit with her as there were no other tables open. A slight smirk crossed her darkly painted lips and she motioned to the seat across from her. I asked her where her boyfriend was and a heavy sigh escaped her. Looking at me with weary eyes she asked if she could tell me something as a friend. She had left him a few days ago because he thought she was dating someone else behind his back.
I was shocked that he would think that and I asked in hushed tones if she had been dating someone else on the side. With another one of her patented smirks she said nah but she had been thinking about it. The guy had become so emotionally involved and controlling that he had begun to scare her. He wouldn’t let her go out with her friends anymore and if she somehow managed to get away from him he was sure to find her and take her home. Pausing to take a drink of her coke she looked at me long and hard. I tilted my head in what I hoped was a curious gesture and a slight grin overtook her soft face. She asked hadn’t we started to become friends before she started dating? Why did we break contact? Softly I told her because her ex-boyfriend threatened me I ever came near her.
I mean I’m no wimp but the thought of getting into a unfair fight wasn’t in me, I mean I didn’t want to hurt the guy and then she never talk to me again. I felt uneasy as her eyes became dark with what I thought was anger at me but then I followed her eyes over my shoulder and sure enough there he was. In all his red-necked glory. His beady little gray eyes burned and his fists were clenched tightly to his sides. With a weary sigh I turned my back to him and started to pick at the food I had bought. I didn’t need this right now … I just wanted to talk to a friend I liked without her psycho ex trying to kill me. I mumbled to myself as I took a bite of my sandwich. Her eyes had gone from anger towards him to fear of him. She wasn’t a skinny girl but she seemed to shrink into herself as he slowly approached the table.
As I unhurriedly finished my sandwich I was well aware of his approach behind me. I could smell the cheap ass dollar store cologne he seemed to bath in. The scent alone made me gag has he asked me what the hell I was doing near ‘his’ woman. A grin slowly made its way across my face and I tried so hard not to laugh at this caveman of a boy. Turning around like the smart ass I was I said I didn’t see a sign that said she was anyone’s property and I was enjoying her compan. This if anything seemed to make him even more angry as I calmly stood up and threw out my trash. I walked next to my dark eyed friend and asked if she would like a cup of coffee, I was buying of course. She stared at me numbly and then back at her ex and she seemed to relax.
Throwing her own lunch trash she said of course she’d love a cup and we started to walk off to the coffee house. The boy just stared at us for a second before he started coming towards me. I was so happy that he was the one that made the first throw. My parents always told me don’t start a fight for any reason and when my mother wasn’t around my father told me to always finish a fight that gets brought to me though. The one who threw the first punch was the one that normally got into trouble and I lived by those teachings.
As the kid threw a wild right punch I turned hard on my left foot and planted my right fist directly into his unprotected stomach. One hit. That’s all it took. He had managed to get his fist into my left side but luckily my backpack took most of the force. Time seemed to slow down as he looked up at my unemotional face. His eyes looked slightly bugged out and he couldn’t understand. A girl just K O ed him with one shot. The quiet bookworm that no one thought about managed to show him just what he was. A bully that wasn’t so big.
As he slowly fell to the ground I looked at my hand, I wasn’t wearing any rings or anything so I didn’t hurt him that badly, all I really did was knock the wind outta him. Turning back to my friend I repeated my offer of coffee knowing full well she might not want to go with me now. But she surprised me. With a broad grin she hooked her arms around my arm and said she much rather go for ice cream instead. I asked if she wanted to walk to the store or if she’d rather drive. We drove downtown to the good ice cream shop where we split on of their famous sundaes. She asked me why I had done that to her ex and I knew what was going.
The same song and dance how she felt confused and she didn’t date girls and all the other stories I had heard through out college. I kicked myself mentally as I blurted out that I liked her and had liked her for quite sometime now. She was going to hate me … she was going to leave and walk away just like all the others I ever liked. And again she surprised me! She reached forward slowly and rested her hand on top of mine and she smiled. Not a phony smile but a real one that came from the bottom of her soul.
Still smiling she said that she never had finished why she left her boyfriend. She had been making eyes at another girl one night at a party throw by a friend. She had a little too much to drink and people were taking pictures and some of them had gotten back to her boyfriend. At first it was all innocence, people playing drinking games and singles hooking up. But the ones that got her trouble where the ones that showed her kissing a girl with dark brown hair, glasses and who was wearing a jean jacket.
I couldn’t collect my thoughts as I looked at her. Then noticing my watch she made a jump and said she had to be at work in an hour. Worried that I did something wrong I remembered she worked in the local mall and she had to be there by 6 o’ clock. I offered to give her a lift to work but she shook her head softly and asked if I wouldn’t mind giving her a left to her apartment instead. As I drove her to her apartment complex she told me the number and we pull into an available parking spot. We walked in complete silence as we walked to her door. Turning to face me she said that this was her and asked if I wanted to do something tomorrow. Stunned I said sure and she smiled that cutesy smile again and as she unlocked her she stopped as if she had forgotten something.
With a quick motion I didn’t even see she wrapped her arms around my waist and rested her head under my chin. Dumbly I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and looked down at her. I had never hoped the day would anything like this. I enjoyed the warmth of her body until reluctantly I felt her pull away. With a slight blush on her cheeks she brushed her lips on mine in a chaste kiss.
“Until tomorrow …” touching my fingertips to my lips I knew I was looking forward to tomorrow ….
