The Shortcut Of Mysterious Mr. Morgan
Why should he care? After all he’s dealt with her shit for years and asked for nothing in return but love. Was that such a bad request…so unimaginable and preposterous for the one you love to love you? These were the fiery thoughts echoing through his frontal lobe when he stomped, heavily, into the misty depths of the West Woods. The woods were every child\'s nightmare; the type of woods that the evil witches and werewolves dwell. Things used to scare the naïve children into the depths of slumber. Even now the parents are telling their terrified children of the dilapidated shack that serves as “the Boogeyman\'s” place of residence.
He wondered what the mailbox looked like. He laughed out loud so hard that the worms ran from the surprise. That was another thing, the worms. Some say that in the West Woods the worms move through the dirt so load that if you stop and listen you can hear them churning the dirt as they move along. “More heartless banter from the parents to their kids” he thought.
He found the main trail easily enough for that was the one he came in on. He had always been the brave one amongst his particular circle of friends so he had ventured here before. “Where no man has gone before” he thought as a smile crossed his face. Eddy would like that. Eddy was the geek of his friends who was always playing video games, reading sci-fi movie book adaptations and watching star trek, star wars and all those other heroic adventures set in the farthest reaches of space and fantasy.
He looked around at his surroundings as he always did whilst in the Woods. The scenery was quite beautiful once you get past the fear and have a look around. The trees were gnarled and twisted…but in a rather poetic way. The ground was covered in dry leaves, twigs and various other flora; decorated occasionally with the random root sticking out of the ground waiting for one such as he to come along and trip. The sky always seemed of a deeper color in the woods also, For example if you walk in on a cloudless summer day the sky goes from that dreamy light blue to a deep iridescent blue that almost glows in intensity. If the scientists that tried to decipher the meaning of this phenomenon couldn\'t why should he try.
The oddest thing of the woods was the presence of not one animal. None to be seen, heard or felt, anywhere. Which is why when he saw the flicker of movement out of the corner on his left eye his intrigue for the forest was quickly subverted to fear. The Hairs on the back of his neck stood to attention while his sub-conscious screamed...no begged him to turn and run. But this particular young man was not a coward and he always ignored his better judgement, for the bad or the good. So he followed the movement with his eye and went to it. For the bad or the good.
