It was another scolding hot day in Arizona. Kali jogged through the park where the shade from the trees was welcomed. As much as she hated being all sweaty and gross she loved summer. Partly because she was off from work the whole summer, hence, she was a pre-school teacher. Kali had always liked children and she was fairly sure that they liked her. It was just different this year because she had moved and she didn’t know the children here. But for right now, she decided, she wasn’t going to worry about anything.

She blew a bit of her raven hair out of her face, and kept jogging. ‘Only 2 more minutes’ she thought to herself. Staying in shape had always been a priority for her; she didn’t like extra flab so she made a habit of exercising at least once every week and jogging 30 minutes at least twice a week. As she slowed to a stop someone caught her eye. A man was waving at her to come over. She recognized him immediately. He was Mr. Reynolds. A middle aged man that was plump and red faced, no doubt jolly all the time and a bit bossy, too. He was the director of the school. She walked over.

“Kali! It’s so nice to see you! I’m sorry to bother you right now but I have an idea that might help you get better acquainted with the children.”

“Ok” Kali said, intrested.

“Later today at about 2pm the children are having a clinic with horses, At the Rivers Ranch. All the kids love horses and they go every summer I think it would be great If you went to watch.”

Kali had always put her best into getting personal with the children she met, she didn’t want to scare them off or only do the job for money. She thought for a moment and decided.

“So can you give me directions to the ranch? I’m still very bad at finding places. Oh and thank you for telling me about this, I would love to do it. It might even help me with my fear of horses.” She added with a nervous laugh.

“Great, the kids will be excited to meet someone new, and I’m sure some boys will develop a crush on you…”

“Must I remind you that you’re happily married?” She said, tone blank.

“Well yes, well, here are the directions.” Mr. Reynolds scribbled them down on a piece of paper and handed it to Kali.

“Thanks, I’ll be there at 2.” She said with a wave of her hand as she walked away.

She walked the rest of the way to her apartment building and climbed the stairs to the upper most of the apartment, which was only the 2nd story. She threw her keys on the counter as she walked in. Although she had only moved in a week or so ago her house felt warm and inviting, it was even already a bit messy. Sighing, she pet her yellow lab named Butters as he licked her hand. She walked over to the bathroom, undressed, and turned on the shower.

“SHIT!” she cursed as she missed the road she was supposed to turn on. Pulling into the parking lot next to the road she turned around and went to the street again. The directions told her to follow this road, all the way down until she saw the enter gate to the ranch. She looked every which way because on either side of her was a different ranch. After a few minutes she was getting a bit dizzy but was able to see the sign over the gate that read ‘River Ranch’ on it. She pulled a sharp turn onto the road and drove up to the barn.

She parked on the side of the barn and got out. Not really knowing what she should do next Kali just wandered inside to the barn. She heard lots of voices coming down so she walked the way that her ears led her. The noises led her to an inside ring, she stopped at the outside of it. She saw a dozen or so kids crowded around a single pony. Mr. Reynolds was standing in the corner watching. He must have been so hot, in a suit like that all day in 100 degree weather. Two men were with the pony, one was holding its lead rope, while the other, older man, was explaining something to the kids. Mr. Reynolds spotted Kali and waved for her to come over.

“Hey kids can I have your attention please?” He asked with a stern but kind voice to get their attention from the pony. When they had all quieted down he pointed to Kali.

“This is going to be one of the new pre-school teachers, her name is Ms. Baker and she will be joining us today.” He said gently

“But she’s so pretty.” Said one of the girls. As if pre-school teachers weren’t pretty or something.

“Ya she’s pretty.” Agreed one of the boys standing in the crowd. Kali blushed at the little at the kids comments. Mr. Reynolds turned expectantly toward her and waiting for her to say something.

“Yeah I’m your new teacher, but instead of calling me by my last name call me Ms. Kali or Ms. K, I hope that you don’t mind me watching today and feel free to ask me questions.” She said. The chlidrens\' attention was now turned to Kali and they were going to take her up on her offer.

“How old are you?”

“24.”

“What’s your favorite color?”

“Green.”

“DO you have a pet?”

“Yes a dog named Butters.”

It was one question that caught her off guard. It was asked by a little boy that had blue innocent eyes and scruffy black hair.

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

“Ummm… No.” she said. With this she looked up and met the eyes of the man holding the pony in place. He wore a black cowboy hat and a sympathetic smile. She couldn’t help but notice his dirty blond hair and twilight blue eyes. His build was all muscle but he wasn’t extremely buff. If Kali had ever seen a cowboy, this was it. She shivered for some odd reason and looked back at the kids, who were now looking at her with suspicious smiles.

“Maybe you should go back to taking care of the pony.” She asked nicely to them.

“The pony’s name is Molly, and that is Nate.” Said a girl who pointed her finger in the mans direction.

“That’s Eddie!” shouted another who pointed to the man who had been instructing them.

“Don’t you think she’s pretty?” Asked another one. She didn’t notice who the question was directed at until she heard and answer. In a kind and clear voice, there was no doubt it was masculine, was her answer.

“Yeah I think she\'s pretty. Now who wants to ride Molly?” Nate asked. His eyes fixed on Kali. Then he looked down at the children and tried to hide a smile.
