The Dragon's Star
Ollie smiled at his girlfriend, Emily. “Where are we staying?” he asked. They were taking a romantic weekend away for two, but he didn’t know what she had planned.
“This place called the Dragon’s Star. It’s 5-star and really expensive, so I can only afford to go for one weekend every year, but it’s a great place. You’ll love it!” Ollie felt his heart sinking.
“The Dragon’s Star?” he asked praying he’d misheard her.
“Yeah. Ever been there?”
‘What do I say?’ he thought frantically. ‘Shit, shit shit!’ He shook his head, praying he looked casual. “Nah,” he said. “Never heard of it.” She smiled.
“Don’t take anything out of the mini bar unless you’re willing to pay for it, because I’ve got a budget which is hard enough to stick to in this place as it is,” He smiled too, wondering how the hell he was going to get through this weekend.
*&*&*
“Dad?” Ollie asked.
“Oliver!” the voiced exclaimed on the other end. “It’s been far too long since you called. How are you?”
“Fine. Listen, dad. I’m coming to one of the hotels this weekend to stay.”
“Wonderful! Which hotel? Your mother and I shall come to. We can have some quality time together!”
“No, dad! My girlfriend sorted out the trip, and she doesn’t have a clue about who I am! I don’t want her to know how rich we are yet. She thinks my name is Ollie Brown, for crying out loud!”
“Brown? Why on earth would you tell her that?”
“Because as soon as I say Oliver Hastings and confirm yes, I am the Oliver Hastings all girls see me as a bank. Emily isn’t like that, but I like her thinking I’m normal.”
His father made an unhappy noise. “Your mother wont be happy, and your lady friend will doubtless be unimpressed when you tell her the truth. Well, what do you want from us, then?”
“Stay away from the Dragon’s Star, please. I’ll tell her soon, but I like our relationship like this for now.”
“Very well. But you shouldn’t have lied to this girl, whoever she is, and we shall want to meet her soon.”
“Fine. Just give me this weekend.”
“Very well. Goodbye.”
“Bye, dad.” Ollie hung up, hoping that things would run smoothly.
