The first time he saw her
(fiction, fiction, fiction… and profitless)
“Okay, son, remember, if you play well, you can stay in.” a proud smile, “It’s not every freshman who gets to start in the first game of the season”
Devin Williams watched from the bench as his father, the long lasting, most popular coach who led the Bears to the State Championship – and won, yes him, talked to his star in the rising, Jimmy McBride.
Jimmy had excelled in Devin’s father’s middle school football team. Coach William’s famous instincts were infamous so the usual objections that should have risen were silent.
Devin was in eighth grade now, and his father was hoping that his scrawny, skinny little son would blossom into muscle man by the time he hit high school.
“Hey Dev, this is so cool!” Mike, Devin’s best friend since second grade beamed. “Man, there’s Juan Lopez!”
When Devin just kept staring at his lap, Mike elbowed him.
“What?”
“What? Juan Lopez, the quarterback, that’s what you ninny!”
“Chill Mikey, just chill”
“Hey, oh hey hey hey!”
“What now?” Devin asked, all cool indifference.
“Cheerleaders”
Devin turned around and the two stared, open mouthed as the long legs and flippy skirts passed them.
“That’s Trudy Burnett. She’s a goddess” Mikey breathed worshipfully.
“And Juan Lopez’s girlfriend” Devin’s spirits had fell again. Gorgeous, long legged beauties just weren’t enough –
He felt like he’d been punched in the gut by a brick. His eyes were glued to the cheerleader valiantly swinging after the rest. Her hair was silky, shiny pale blonde falling to her waist. She was barely 5’2. Her nose was small and perky, her mouth was small and pouty, her eyes big and the color of chocolate, her skin looked so soft.
“Who’s she” he muttered to Mikey, who knew everything.
“Oh her? She’s new. Her name is Regina Jackson. Hot, huh? I myself prefer the mile high legs but still…”
The stands roared as the team ran out onto the field, booing as the visiting team came out.
The game began.
“Don’t think I didn’t see you eying up my boyfriend you little whore. I suppose you think you can flip your hair under his nose and that’ll be it?”
Regina stared up at Trudy from on her butt on the bathroom floor, the tile cold against her legs. Trudy had come in with her cronies – in the forms of beautiful cheerleaders – and shoved her down. The bathroom had then emptied with impressive speed.
“I didn’t –”
“Shut up. And listen. I own Juan. I own this school. And as head cheerleader I own you. I could destroy you in a heartbeat. Remember that, little freshman” She swung out of the bathroom. Regina watched her go and when they were finally gone she eased up. Leaning against the wall she counted to ten and then walked out.
“Trudy, I didn’t mean to offend you. I mean, I looked at Juan cause, well, he’s really handsome” giggle, blush, “but I never though you’d mind, I mean, why would anyone try to steal him? Everyone knows he’s your guy, and who what guy would choose anyone over you. I’m really sorry”
Trudy, and her crones, stared at the petite girl in shock. She was supposed to avoid them for the rest of the year, but…
“And did you drop this?”
In her open hand was a gold and diamond locket.
“Yes… It is” Trudy snatched the locket and fasted in around her neck. “You can go now”
Regina beamed and twirled off.
“Dumb twit” laughed Trudy\'s right hand, a red head with the most impressive chest in the school.
“Yeah…” Trudy forced a laugh. Something was off. The new cheerleader was obviously a twit, but something…
“Trudy, come on, they’re starting!”
(It\'s still getting started, okay, but please reveiw anyway)
