Independent Woman

Independent Woman

After marriage I kept my maiden name.
It was a decision of independence,
Why give into old fashion traditions
And out dated Ideas?
This was my name,
My Identity.
I would change it for no man.
But after bearing 2 children,
Who bears your name,
After 10 years of PTA meetings,
Checking accounts,
Answering machines,
I got use to being called your wife,
Your Mrs. Johnson.
It was just easier not to correct them.
But today after months of being apart;
Months of being Ms. Lloyd again
Today at the doctors office
They called for a
Mrs. Johnson;
And embarrassed I stood up
And followed.
