A cruel joke

I had always hoped that it had been some cruel joke
As some one snatched you from my arms
Took your soul from my heart
Took those days we spent together.
I miss the small things, a hello here, a hi there.
I want the small things back.
I want to hear you one last time,
I want to be able to say hey one last time,
Why can’t I see you anymore?
Why were you taken from us?
Our safe haven shattered
A harsh reminder of mortality
But why did it have to be you?
Why did you have to go?
Why can’t you be where you were every day?
Why aren’t you still there?
Why can’t you come back?
Things like this don’t happen to us,
Things like this are made of nightmares
Terrifying tales calmed by a friends embrace
But my friend is gone consumed by a nightmare
A dark cloud descended and placed you in the sky
A small twinkle in the night is where you are
A constant light keeping watch
A constant friend who will always be there.
Watching, waiting, wanting.
One day my friend we will meet
One day we will laugh of memories past
One day I will become a part of the night
One day people will see our stars and they will know.
They will know that that’s us, together again
As we always were, as we always should have been.
