Night
Nights
Have you ever had a night where you couldn’t sleep
A night where your body wouldn’t let you sleep,
A night you’d lay there in y our bed...
Listening
The calm comforting darkness that renders sight all but useless,
The same darkness that cuts off one of the senses heightens the
others,
fine tunes them,
makes you hear, smell and feel better.
Touching
The feel of the soft bed sheets, the feel of the pajamas on your skin,
The feel of the cool night air, the feeling of the warm air from the
furnace,
Smelling
The scent of the lotion, the smell of freshly washed skin,
Freshly scrubbed hair and the subtle scent your favorite pillow.
Taste
The almost sweet taste of pine and delicate taste of the night air,
But perhaps, out of all the senses in the night,
Hearing is the most acute.
The soft rhythmic soft thumping of your heart,
The gentle rustle of bed sheets as those around you enjoy their deep
slumber
Or perhaps the soft yip or groan of a dog,
Or the purring of a cat
The occasional groan or moan as the house settles on its foundation,
The hushed hum of the computer,
The soft growl of the furnace as it turns on,
Or perhaps, even, the ghostly calls of the passing Semi-trucks
As they pass on the lonely highway outside the window,
Their call echoing into the endless night.
Darkness, the calm, lulling darkness
That all that blinds the body from sight,
Yet makes the other senses come alive.
Good Night.
