Somnambulist

If you spot anything directly ripped off from a film or book that recently crossed my path,
then that\'ll be what they call \'inspired by\'. Inspired by, but completely original.

I welcome all comments, good or bad, constructive or not.
I reserve the right to completely ignore you though.

As with all my AFF posts, this is really very short. For that, you can blame my really very short attention span.
At some point, these characters and this situation will likely be revisited.

===============================================================

He walked towards his apartment, instinctively going for his keys as he approached the door. He laid his hand on the handle, and the door moved.
That’s odd thought Kevin, I’m sure I locked that this morning. He slowly pushed the door open the rest of the way and glanced down the hall, as he stepped inside a small smile spread across his face, he could see the carry all. She’s not supposed to be back until tomorrow. He stopped in the hall and listened; trying to work out which room she’d be in, no luck, not a sound. Walking down the hall he dumped his shoes and briefcase, and went into the kitchen. He could see the coffee mug on the side, he touched it, still warm. He turned around and looked over the bar into the living room and noticed the white blouse on the table, his smile broadening he headed across the room towards the bedroom.
He slowed down as he neared the entrance to the room, ran a hand through his hair, checked he still smelt ok, and rounded the corner.

He smelt the blood before he saw it, the copper scent filling his nostrils, the smile disappearing immediately. The bed sheets were ruffled, stained a deep crimson red, only the smallest splattering of their original white colour showing through. His eyes left the blood soaked sheets, searching the rest of the room, looking for her. The dresser had been knocked over and there was shattered glass on the floor, reflecting the light like hundreds of little diamonds amongst the dark pools of blood, his eyes came back to the bed. She wasn’t in the room.
Kevin looked up, moving around the bed he headed for the bathroom, the smell was making him nauseous and he had to fight back the vomit as he tried to avoid the pools of blood. He stopped at the door, not wanting to see what he knew must be on the other side, for a split second he contemplated not opening it, calling the police and letting them go through the door. Then his hand was on the knob, pushing the door open. It took a few seconds for the sight to register, without thinking he stepped in the door, kneeling down beside her he checked for a pulse, there was none. He slowly let his eyes rise, following the arm all the way up to the neck, then the face. As he saw the fresh blood, still oozing from her slashed cheeks he had to fight the urge to vomit, he continued on up past her nose, to where her eyes should have been. He froze, unable to move, staring at the gaping, bloodied sockets where there should have been two beautiful blue eyes. He let go of her wrist, letting it fall to the ground, it made a squelching noise as it hit the sticky tiles below, as he heard it he felt his stomach lose control, he was going to be sick. He turned away, not wanting to get vomit on her body, trying to get out of the bathroom he slipped on the blood covered tiles, half crawling half running he made it back into the living room, leaving bloody foot and hand prints all the way to the front door, out onto the landing outside the apartment. And he stopped.

He could hear something. It was her voice.
“Kevin, Kevin honey.”
That couldn’t be right. She was dead wasn’t she? Kevin turned. Maybe he had been wrong, perhaps there had been a pulse. He headed back into the apartment, following her voice, still calling him. As he walked through to the bathroom he slowed down, rounding the corner he looked at her body, searching for signs of life. He heard it again, it was definitely her voice. But he could see her, she was definitely dead, her lips were dried and cracked, yet still her voice was calling him.
“Kevin, it’s time to get up.”
He opened his eyes.
Shit.

It’d been a long time since he’d had that dream.
