Prologue:
Peeking through the white firly curtains of the living room window, Andrew Galloway watched as the movers continued carrying in the neighbors from across the streets belongings inside. The continous parade of boxes had kept many a noisy neighbor, he was sure, quite busy as they watched whom was moving into the old Paterson house. The Paterson family, a widowed father with five annoying boys under eleven, had been reassgned overseas. Most of the neighbors in the tiny cul-de-sac weren\'t too upset to see them go. The kids had been real brats and the father, a hard drinking gun toting nut, had not made themselves well liked.
Andrew was curious to see who was moving in. Ever since Mr. Paterson had announced his plans to leave, someone had been coming by a slowly reshaping the run down looking house. Instead of the overgrown lawn he was use to seeing, it was now transformed into a neat, freshly cut haven. No toys, bikes, and skateboards littered the lawn. No more broken windows or the screeching sounds of children rough housing in the streets could be heard.
He was almost disappointed. His neighborhood was really boring now, not that he didn\'t like the quite. He was glad to see that family go...little monsters those kids were. Still, with only two other families with kids around his age of seventeen, his family was surrounded by older couples.
\"Get away from that window Drew.\" His mother said, coming up behind him, startling him. She gestured him to follow her back into their tiny kitchen.
\"I\'m just curious, ma. I hope they have a kids my age.\" Andrew replied, releasing the curtains.
\"They do, but you won\'t have to worry about associating with that kind. Just don\'t even say anything to them.\" She gave a fierce glare. Even though she was a petite woman at only five feet, when she glowered she seemed like she was ten feet tall.
Andrew frowned. \"Why?\"
\"They\'re you know...Black. Just stay away.\" His little blonde haired mother whispered. \"Now sit down and eat my delicious meal, boy.\"
Andrew rolled his eyes covertly as he pulled out a chair and sat at the glass dining table. He\'d long ignored his mothers views on anyone who wasn\'t \'white\' like they were. He wondered what she\'d do if she knew he had many different races of friends at school. And that just because he only brought his white friends over to the house was because he\'d told his non white friends what kind of wacko his mother could be like.
She\'d probably start cracking out the whips and chains!
Reaching into the top cabinets, Mrs. Galloway pulled out a white bowl and preceded to scoop up a heafty serving of beef stew, the neighbors forgotten.
She never noticed her sons frown or the curious look he turned in the direction of the window.
*Just testing something out. Hope you liked this first part. Be back soon. ^_^
