Perspective

The night was cold and silent, a gathering fog had muffled any sound being made by man or beast. It was a night like this that he came to me; my lover. Like the wind on the edge of a great storm, he came to me. Swiftly, and without apology. Changing everything in its path without thought.

With him it was always this way. This man…no mere mortal…nor was he a demon. My lover had a soul, a tortured one, and an appetite for life that was unparalleled by all others…except for me.

We share a similar fate, he and I. Never to grow old, never to die, but underneath the surface, ever changing. One can’t live for hundreds of years and remain totally unchanged. One must adapt to the ever changing environment or become part of the scenery. Being a shrubbery is reserved for lesser beings, and our vocation was to be that change.

But, I digress. He came to me with all the force of a hurricane making landfall. I, a being made of darker stuff, was caught off guard, but not by surprise. I knew it was only a matter of time before he would find me.

The event had been foretold some years earlier, when I was naught but a blushing maid. The Godhia had read the Runes, on the occasion of my thirteenth winter.

She had told me of his energy; it was dark and powerful, but she told me nothing of his physical appearance. His spirit, his essence was that of one who had walked the Earth for far longer than I. He had witnessed and caused centuries worth of changes, having developed and honed the powers gifted to him by the Dark God.

I was old enough to know that one’s spirit rarely resembled the vessel that contained it.

She saw the meeting of two powerful forces: One originating from the God of the Underworld, the other from the Goddess of the Dark Moon. These two energies were to combine when the Earth’s human population was in a state of turmoil and in the midst of change. This event would come when Saturn returned from his journey around the Sun. and coincided with my twenty fifth winter.

It was indeed a time of change and turmoil – in my life as well as in the lives of many others - I was in exile, from family and friends. They did not seem know of the events that were taking place in the Other Realms, but I was all too aware of the explosions of seemingly invisible energy. My soul, my spirit was reacting to the changes being made by another, my much prophesized lover.
