Poem for Morgan

Sharp eyes burning in the shade
Steel will bent only by the weakest hands
Gritting her teeth against the pain
Shouldering her burden again

Naked pulse caught in a strange mouth
Loaning out bits of her mind to anyone
Who can pay its rent in tears
Scanning the horizon for purity

Small hands wrapped up tight
Heart tightly caged to keep from beating
Waiting for a smoldering fire to be burnt in
Wondering how to escape from it

Collarbones flashing under the streetlights
Renting out her soul so that she can afford peace
Or at the very least, a warm place to sleep
Longing for the comfort of home

Hair rain-plastered to her cheeks
Water streaming into her mouth
Afraid to imagine that she is lovely
Searching again for truth
