Shadow of a Soul

~Shadow of a Soul~

There's a shadow in your doorway.
It's the shadow of a soul.
The frail tatters of life to her still cling,
Of misery and hate they sing.
A woman is the child, a broken little girl.
Whose life; it was so tortured,
That it left this world.

She's in your doorway crying.
Begging you to see:
Her heart was always dying.
It never dead shall be.
The pain she held, the blinding fear,
Was always inside screaming at you
But you never seemed to hear.

I stand here, alone and silent, only watching you.
You act so surprised and scared and worried,
Like this is something new.
You just sit and watch her,
And I guess you just don't see
The part of her that's frightening,
Even here to me.

I stand here in the shadow.
It's the shadow of a tree.
And I know you'll never guess,
And I bet you'll never see
This shadow in your doorway,
The one beneath the tree.

This shadow standing, watching you.
And you are watching me.
