There are sevearl things to be noted about this story, the first is that the town they are in came from my own mind as well as all the landmarks(those come later in the story though), also it should be noted that the time line is a little diffrent while it is 2004 for those in the story there 2004 is not like ours, yes some things will be the same but some will also be diffrent(Anything from Police Ranking to cars) you'll understand as the story goes on..also please be kind this is my first shot at a story so be kind

Prologue

The scream that tore threw the air woke her up and the seond one had her stumbling across her room and out into the hallway in search of what it was.Truly all she wanted to do was hide out in her room but her mother had always told her never to let fear run her life, when she made it to teh stairs she heard someone sobbing and called out softly

"Mommy is that you"

She heard someone curse and then her Mother yelling out to her

"Alexandra run baby, get out" she was crying as she told her daughter to save herself "Plese run baby"

Rather then do what her mother had asked she slowly started down the stairs, she needed to see her mom, needed to know what was happening to her,why she was crying and begging her to run away.When she stepped into teh living room she saw her mother laying on the floor looking around quickly she ddint see anyone else in the room and quickly darted over to her, sitting beside her mother she started to cry softly she didnt have to check she knew the she was gone. Gone forever stolen away from her. She never heard him behind her the crys had been louder then his footsteps but when he grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her to the floot she knew it was all over for her to, he didnt take his time mearly ripped of her clothes and stole away her inocence.Even thought it was the most pain she'd ever felt in the eleven years she been alive she refused to cry for him, mabey thats what made him in the end tie her up and force her to watch what he did to her mothers body,still even threw all of that she never cried she wouldnt give him that last pleasure. When he finshed he laid a single red rose at her feet before kissing her on the cheek, his touch had made her want to shrink away but she forced herself to remain still.With that the man stood up and walked out of the room.
It was sevearl days before anyone found mother and daughter, and while Alexandra had sat there tied up with only the remains of her mother to look at she replayed the moments over and over in her head imprinting his face in her mind, but by then it was to late. Alexandra refused to talk to anyone and without any family to take care of her she was sent to CPS but over time she started to grow violent and after almost killing herself and another child was sent off to Jenkins Psyc Ward.While her temper slowly went away over time she still never spoke to anyone.During the days she would sit in her room jsut staring at the walls and at night she would rock herself to sleep crying as she remembered it.Thats where she spent the next twenty years of her life alone untill the day Lukas Pearson showed up

Chapter 1

Life for Luke had been hell latly, he had a sting of murders, and while that was bad on its own due to the fact that he had no cluse or evidence besides the single red rose the killer was leaving behind he was going nowhere

"Fuck me"Luke mumbled under his breath as he looked down at the newest body.

"You know normally when someone askes me that I'd say yes, but with you Im going to have to say no. Not my type"TJ smirked over his shoulder at his partner

"Shut up TJ"

"Sorry boss...this makes four"

"I'm well aware of that"Lsnapsnapped bef before dragging a hand threw his hair and sqwating next to TJ
When he saw the man flinch slightly he sighed, he wasnt trying to be an ass he was jsut in a bad mood.There was still nothing knew in teh case and it was starting to get to him. He glanced once more at the body before rocking back on his heels.She was like the rest of them,red hair,between 5'6 and 5'8, green eyes, slender and also like the rest of them her face was hacked to hell and her clothes pulled abher her waist. Rubbing the bridge of his nose Luke stood to his feet when he heard the ME coming from behind him

"Moring Detective, have anotehr one I see"

"Yeah, jogger found her about half an hour ago...is it him"

"Can't tell you yet, but I'll have the report for you later today"She started to walk around him and over to the body, she looked back over her shoulder as Luke was getting ready to head back to his car there wasmt much more he could do here"You look like hell you know that"

"Thanks..come on TJ were out of her"

Luke was already halfway to the car when TJ finally caught up to him, he didnt bother to say anything it would matter and it would only serve to get him yelled at again, so instead he stared out of his window and let his mind wander it took a shove from Luke to relise that he was being spoken to

"Sorry..you say something"

"Yeah, I said sorry for snapping at you"

"Dont worry about it, stress I understand"

"I just wish we had something to go by, theres nothing not a hair, a print, just nothing.How are we supposed to stop this asshole if we dont have anything to go off of"

"Well theres ros rose he leaves behind"TJ looked over at Luke to find him staring right at him

"I know that, its been two months since the first girl and that rose hasnt turned up a damn thing"Luke turned the car into its parking spot before turing it off and resting his head agasint teh seat"Im running out ideas and you've seen the papers if we dont find something out soon its going to get messy"

"How are the checks going for similar MO's"

"Nothing yet, but Im hoping they found something while we were out here....might as well head inside"

With that both men got out of the car and headed up the steps into the building. TJ said something about coffee before sliping off and Luke went into his office.He shut teh door behind him before flopping down into his seat, he'd jsut rested his elbows on the desk and place his face in them when there was rap on the door and it opened, Luke glanced up to find Tommy in the doorframe holding up a file.Lukes gaze went from it back to Tommy and he lifted and eyebrow

"And what would that be"

"Well I ran that check for you and this was the only thing that turned up with the same MO"

"Then give it here what are you waiting for"

"I dont thik its going to be much help" Tommy commented as he todded the folder onto Lukes desk.By then Luke was already reading the paper infront of him

"Why do you say that..this here says theres a witness hows that not going to help me"

"Well one, it might not have anything to do with your case, twenty years is a long time to wait, and second look where your witness is"

Luke droped his gaze and groaned alowed, wonderfull he might have finally found his break and his only witness that might be able to help him was locked in the looney bin.Rising to his feet Luke closed the foulder and glanced qucikly at Tommy as he walked past him out of the room

"Let TJ know IM checking this out"

Tommy nodded his head and shurgged his shoulders as Luke walked across the room to the exit.If he wanded to waste his time that was up to him

About an hour later Luke pulled into the parking lot infront of Jenkins, as he exited the car he looked up at teh building and cursed under his breath he hated places like this, his father had spent the better part of his life in one, but that been a long time ago and thinking about it wouldnt do him any good so with a hand threw his hair she started towarsd the building.When he entered threw the glass dorrs his nose was hit with the smells of urine and other things he didnt want to identify.Picking up his pace Luke made his way to the front desk and flashing the young woman behind it a smile asked the woman how she was.It always helped to sweet talk people when trying to get things and everything was fine till he asked where he could find Alexandra Kane, at teh anme the womans face scrunched up and her attitude changed quickly

"May I ask why you need her"

"You can doesnt mean I'll tell you"With that Luke pulled out his badge and showed it to her"Mow I need Miss Kanes room"

"I cant understand why you need that poor girl, but I can save you some trouble and tell you it wont do any good to talk to her"

"Whys that Ma'm"

"Why dont I let you find out for yourself"

With that she stood and brushed past Luke and started to lead him down a hallway. After two flights of stairs and sevearl security stops they finally arrived at her room, the womans was about to open the door when a doctor called out to them

"Rebecca what are you doing"

"He needs to see Miss Kane"She indicated Luke with a tilt of her head and nothing more

"And what do needneed her for, if your another reporter"The man had placed his gaze on Luke and looked almost disgusted with him

"Like I told her, I dont have to tell you why I need her only that I do"With that Luke produced his badge again and watched the play of emotions on the old mans face"So if you would be so kind"

"Im sure Rebecca told you she'll be of no help"

"And I told her I'd be the judge of that...Though I would like to know why you both think that"

Before he spoke the doctor turbackback to Rebecca and dismissed her as she was walking away he looked back at Luke and started to speak

"You'll have to forgive me for being rude your not exactly dressed like a cop"

"You could say I was rushed this morning"While he talked Luke glanced down at what he was wearing and smiled slitghly he was in faded jeans and a black t-shit under his leather jacket, not exactly what you would call cop attire"Now why is the oppinon that she cant help"

"Simply becuase she cant talk"

"fuck me"

"Excuse me young man"

"What...oh sorry, its a habit" Luke had the grace to flush slighly he hadnt been around more then five minuets and he managed to upset the man

"I suggest you get a new habit, but now that you know she doesnt speak I asume you'll be leaving

Lukes head snapped up and this time it was his turn to frown and look upset" I still want to see her...but"

"But what young man"

"Well why cant she talk"

"Its not that she cant exaclty its more along the lines of she choses not to"

"Whats that supposed to mean"

"Exactly what it sounds like she doesnt want to talk" The Doctor looked down at the clip board he was holding and started to flip threw the pages, he didnt look up right away and it gave Luke the moment to look him over without seeming rude, the Doctor was about medium height, light brown hair, and if Luke had to guess he'd say in lat late fourtys, he started to tap his foot it irritatin when the Doctor still didnt look up and finally cleared histhroat.The man looked up and frowned

"Your still here"

"Of course Im still here, simply ignoring me wont get me to leave, and I believe your interfearing in my investigation by not allowing me to see her now open the damn door"

"She wont talk"

"You said that already, now mind telling me why you've still yet to do that"

"Shes been here almost twenty years and has never said I word, and by all nts nts she should be able to talk.Theres nothing wrong with her"

"Open the door"

"But I just.."

"Open the door now"

The doctor frowned once more before moving past Luke to finally open the door, when he shoved it open he steped back and nodded for Luke to go in.When he first walked in he glanced around and noticed that the room was padded and pure white, when his gaze fell to the woman sitting on the bed he sucked in a breath.She looked jsut like the other four,no they looked like her or as close as they could get.The first woman had had a similar mouth, the seconds eyes where set the same, and the other two had features that matched hers, but the colour of her hair put them to shame. Hers was the color of fire and her eyes were green and big, and when she looked up at him they widened before she shrank back agasint the wall behind her. Luke took another step into the room before turing back to the doctor

"You can leave no

And with with that Luke closed the door in the doctors face, When he turned back Alexandra was staring at him her eyes still large only now her gaze was darting back and forth between him and the closed door.

"Its alright Im not going to hurt you"As he was talking Luke looked around for a chait to sit on but didnt find any, the only place to sit was on her bed and he didnt want to scare her any more then she already was. Taking a deep breath Luke spoke again "Hi Alexadra my..."

Luke trailed off when she flinch at the sound of her own name, he slowly took another step and the look of confusion in her face gace way to fear, she looked like she wanted to scream but was holding back

"My names Lukas but all my friends call me Luke, would you like to call me Luke"

All she did was stare back at him with those big green eyes and he felt a tug in his chest.Luke tried to focus on what he was here for but all he could think about was how bueatiful she was and as he started to think about the other emotions he wanted to see filter across here face he mentaly baraded himself, what the hell was wrong with him he was here to interview a witness and all he could think about was... well he wasnt going to finsh his thoughts

"Do you think I could sit there on your bed next to you, I have a few questions for you"

Again she didnt respond and he took that to mean yes, and sat down at the edge of her bed.As soon as he touched it she scrambled away to the other side and hugged her knees to her chest

"I told you Im not going to hurt you Alexandra....you dont like that name fo you" She'd flinched again when he called her that "Would you like me to call you something else.You dont have to talk you can jsut nod your head yes"

She jsut kept staring at him, only know the fear in her face was gone replaced by the confusion again, it wasnt much but it was a start.She hadnt spoken in twenty years what made Luke think she was going to start now, but if he could get her to nod her head he could get somewhere

"Alright how about Ally" She blinked a couple times nothing more "Alright thats a no how about Lexy or Lexus"

Luke almost laughed out loud at the face she made, she had scrunched her nose up and look liked she wanted to vomit, it was almost comical.Infact for someone who didnt talk she sure did wear her emotions on her face.Mabey it wouldnt be that hard to get what he wanted after all

"Yeah your right those arnt to good..hmmm how about Alex. No your right thats not much better, well we can try Lexa"She almost looked mad at that suggestion and this time Luke did laugh.She looked taken aback by the sound and pushed farther back into the wall.Luke cocked an eyebrow at her in question and stifled the second laugh when she did the same"OK I get it sounds like a boys name. Well how about Lexa"

He held his breath when she looked thoughtfull and then very slowly a small smile spread across her face and she nodded her head yes, it wasnt much but it was a start


Chapter 2

He was sitting in a bush somewhere in the park and watched his next target he wouldnt grab her yet, this one he liked to watch she was diffrent she looked the most like her so far.As he watched the woman walk threw the park his thougts drifted back to that day, he still couldnt figure out why he had let her live but he really didnt care anymore.She hadnt made a sound that night not like the others no they screamed for him not to but end the end he killed them.It was never enough though he wanted her and he couldnt find her so they were going to ahve to take her place.Soon her would strike again, he enjoyed reading the papers that dumb Detective they had on the job couldnt ahve found his way out of a paper bag mabey he should give him a hint or something to use buat wat would the point in that be.It was fun watching him scurry around trying to find something anything, but he was to smart for that.He made sure to leave nothing behind only the rose.It had always been his touch and now it was funny to him.The red rose her red hair.One day he would find her again and when he did it would finally be over all he had to do was find her and then he could rest, but untill that day the other women would take her place and he would enjoy blaming their deaths on her, then when she understood that her silence was killing them she would finally make the nosie he had been wanting to hear.As he thought about Alexandra he watched the young woman get into her car and drive off.Finally he could stand up and strech.As he walked back to his own car he saw a paper on a nerby park bench and went over and picked it up the headline was in big bold, black letters and read ROMEO STRIKES AGAIN he laughed and dropped the paper to the ground before getting in his car and driving home

Chapter 3

Lexa, as the man was calling her now, was sitting agasint the wall as far back from him as she could.She still wasnt quite sure what had made her smile or nod she hadnt done either of those things in quite some time.He was asking her questions but she had learned along time ago how to block people out and rather then listen to him she focused on his profile.He had dusty blond hair and with what littlesunlight that came into her room it almost looked golden, his eyes were very bright, and a light blue almost grey.HIs cheek bones where defined and those two things together drew your sight to him.When Lexa had managed to pull her gaze from faceface she looked over the rest of his body and while She hadnt really gotten a good look at him when he walked in she figured he was taller then her by a good seven inches and the last time she'd paid attention to the doctor he said something about her being around 5'8 so if she had to guess she'd put the man before her at 6'3, her gaze drifted down over his body at what he was wearing.Both the jeans and the shirt looked old and worn as well as the jacket.She'd also never seen him before and besides the nurses and doctors he was the first person to ever visit her in all these years. Given she knew everything that was said about her.Everyone in the place seemed to thing since she didnt talk she was stupid as well and talked about her like she wasnt there.At times they would bring up the case and it took every ounce of what little will power she had not to snap on them, but she had made a promise along time ago to herself and she planned on keeping it, after all it was all she had left. She was still staring at him when suddenly he cleared his throat, eye eyes snapped back up to his face and she could see the smile starting to tug at his lips.Lexa titled her head to the side and once again jsut stared at him, it really was odd she hadnt paid the slightest amount of attention to anyone at the Ward in all these years yet there she was noding, smiling, and getting caught staring.Mabey it was the fact that he was nothing like him.He was completly diff, al, all the way from the color of his hair to the way he talked, and if shd tod to admit it he was bueatiful, the type of man she could never have and it was killing her on the inside but once again her thoughts were broken only this time he was talking, he really did do that alot

"You havn't been paying the slightest attention to me have you"He was smiling at her while he spoke but she could tell from his eyes that he wasnt happy about it"I guess I'll have to start over but mabey this time you could pay attention"

He was waiting for ehr to respond somehow, and while she wanted to she couldnt for the life of her think of a way how.It was clear he wanted her to talk but there was no way that was going to happen besides what could be so important that he show up nothing, thats what and she wasnt going to break her promise over nothing so instead of nodding again she mearly blinked at him and she smirked back at her almost as if he knew what she was thinking

"Well, I think you are now so like I was saying, something really big is going on and I think I need your help...no you know what after seeing you I know I need your help"

What the hell was that supposed to mean, what did her looks have to do with anything, mabey he was writing a book or doing a movie.lexa had heard the nurses talking about how people used to come around all the time wanting to talk to her about that night.Could that be why he was here, becuase if it was she'd never see him again, damn it she had done it again shut him out and drifted off so once again she had no idea what he was talking about, when she looked away from the wall and fixed her gaze back on his face she saw something flash in his eyes that looked alot like annoyance she'd seen that on the doctor once or twice.This time when he spoke his voice was harsh and not only did she flinch at the sound of it but her face closed up and she stared down at her hands

"What I need is for you to pay attention....fuck me"When Lexa stared back up at him he was rubbing the bridge of his nose"Look Im soory, thiell.ell..its hard really hard.I ahve nothing to go on except whatever you have locked away up there" this time he tapped his temple"and I dont mean to sound like such an ass, but I need your help and your not paying attention"

Well what the hell did he want with her anyway, he knew damnw ell she couldnt talk yet here he was bitching at her for not doing anything, and she had thought he was nice showed how much she knew,Lexas face had started to cloud up when he reached for a brief case next to his foot she hadnt taken notice of and opened the top while he was picking threw the things in it he looked up her and started to talk again only this time his voice was softer

"Mabey you could look at a few things for me and see if it helps at all"He then pulled out one single red rose and held it out to her and which point she promptly started to scream for the first time in twenty year

Luke had dropped the rose as soon as her mouad oad opened and clamed his hands over his ears, she really did have a set of lungs on he and not only was she screaming but she was rocking back and forth, Luke looked around wildly and wondered if anyone could hear her.Infact he was willing to bet they were right outside the door. When no one rushed o heo help Luke did the only thing he could think of and stood up of the bed walked over to her and wraped her in his arms, the moment he touched her she stared to scream louder and after hitting him in the face once or twice began to convulse in his arms.For a reason Luke didnt want to look into he didnt let her go instead he started to storke her hair and moved his hand up and down her back, after a while she stopped shaking but was still sobbing.Luke felt like shit first he yelled at her and then wipped out the stupid flower trying to get her attention if he had know this was going to happen her wouldnt even ahve brought teh damn case into the room.Hell they'd probably try to keep him from ever coming back and he couldnt have that.He could tell jsut by what happened that she had it locked away inside her gorgeus little head..he was doing it again..He had to find a way to make her talk, but after this he'd be back to square one, as he cries grew softer he tired to make her feel better

"Im so sorry, I shouldnt have done that, I didint know what would happen...please forgive me I wont ever show that ou aou again, I swear it.Shit dont hate me"

"What do you think your doing"

Luke almost flew away from her and turned to see the doctor in the doorway, he hadnt even heard the door open.When the doctor lookeom tom the rose to Lexa and then finally to him the mans face was red and he looked ready to kill.Luke could almost see him counting in his head trying to calm himself down, Luke started to stand and speak before the Doctor could

"Look Doc before you say anything dont worry Im leaving, we've doneugh ugh today but.." as he drifted off Luke looked back down at Lexa and saw while it was clear she'd been crying she was once again not making a sound and the look she was giving him well if he had to take a guess at what it meant he'd go with 'fuck off asshole I never want to see you again' with a sigh Luke bent down picked up the flower before shoving it into the case and standing up stht wht with a tip of his head to lexa he walked past the Docotr and out of the room, he didnt look back even when the Doctor calle dout to him and he didnt stop till he was behind his car steering wheel and staring at the building.What had he gotten himself into he could still smell her hair and feel her in his arms, he really did need help she was supposed to be a witness and here he was having x-rated thoughts about her"I hel help"

With that Luke started up the car and drove back to his office

Back inside her room Lexa was laying down on her bed, the nurse had tried to find out what had happened but like there was a chance Lexa would tell her.After the nurse had left Lexa wanted nothing more then to start crying again, she had thought him nice and almost friendy but when he wanted to get his way he'd yanked out that flower and she couldnt control herself, she was ashamed all these years and she'd kept her promise to herself and then a few moments with him and she was balling her eyes out and shaking in his arms, his arms, the entire time she was cursing herself in her head for crying she couldnt block out his scent from her head.He had been strong and really did sound upset about hurting her, he'd rubbed her back and ran his fingers threw her hai,Which she could still fell it when her eyes were closed, and then the Doctor had come in and run him away

Then why did he make you cry

Damn it she was doing it again arguing with herself, she really needed to stop that but then what was one to do when they had no one to talk to.Lexa thought back to the look she'd give him and the uneasyness that had flashed across his eyes, she couldnt help but wonder if he knew how much they gave him away or mabey she was jsut good at reading people after all she did jsut sit around and watch and you learned alot from doing that.It didnt mater either way thought they'd never let him back and Lexa would never find out what he wanted but it was better that way.She doubted if she could take another visit from him but part of ehr hoped he'd come back. While Lexa was still thinking the Doctor Sanson had come back into the room which meant a couple things either he also was going to try and find out what happened or he was going to give her another shot.Lexa didnt really understand what the shots were for they never helped, and as he walked closer Lexa found herself comparing him to Luke, Doctor Sanson was shorter and larger in the mid section, Lexa was still going over his falts when he spoke up

"Alexandra dear its time for nother shot"

Bingo she should have guessed it would be that, unlike when Luke had been in the room Lexa was able to stop herself from showing how much her name bothered her.Lexa couldnt get angry its not like she ever gave a statement as to what happened thats why her mothers case was still open as far as she knew.At nights she thought about it and had the silent tears running down her face

"Did you hear me?"Lexa looked over at him and he took that as his yes before crossing over to her"Honey what happened, did that officer hurt you" Lexa blinked a couple times and processed what he'djust said.A cop thats who he was no wonder he had the flower"Im going to keep him from coming back again" It must have been the look on her face becuase the doctor froze"Isnt that what you want"And at that moment even Lexa herself wasnt sure about that
