Unwanted Help

The darkness
wraps me just
like a cloak.
Safe and warm,
waiting for me
to cinch that
fatalistic cord
about myself.
Closing everything
away from me,
keeping ll
ll
at bay.
No chinks in this
armor.
No cracks in my
towering wall.
Family and friends
must suffer for
one\'s mistake.
My mistake.
I let someone in
and they ruined me.
Ruined all that I
had built myself
to be.
Laid waste to my
proverbial village,
their lord...
their lady, defenseless
and helpless to save them.
What good is a
Protector who cannot
even protect themselves?
What good is a
Defender who cannot
even defend their own
emotions?
I pull the darkness
down upon my own head,
cowering in it like
a helpless child.
The cord stays
unknotted, giving me
a way out, if ever
I want it...
