Half-Breed!
Okay this has been rewritten and the name changed. a lot of stuff is the same but a lot has been added in and the spelling is better. Also I gave Atemu's horse a name, Yabun. And Ryouken's past is mentioned a bit. I've already started writing the second chapter so that should be added in a few weeks.
I got the idea for this story from Wolf's Rain but it is not related to it its my own story
And the name Atemu is from Yu-Gi-Oh but Atemu is not Yami or Pharaoh Atemu^_^ But I do just love Yami/Atemu!

Chapter one: Half-Breed!
Ryouken ran through the dark woods after his prey, a white-tailed deer. The large black and tan coonhound wolf mix stopped for a second to howled to his Master. Then Ryouken pounced on the frighten deer ripping into its throat. He held the deer down and waited for the others to arrive. Three other hounds soon arrived on the scene followed by a boy and a black horse.
"Good boy, Ryouken," smiled Atemu. "This should last us for a few days."
*Stupid half-breed!* Growled Tanuki.
*I told you not to call me that!* Ryouken snapped.
*You're nothing but a stupid half-breed mutt!* yelled Tanuki.
*Don't call me stupid! You're just mad cause I'm a better hunter than you are!* Ryouken growled.
*You want a fight?* growled the full bred black and tan coonhound.
*Bring it on then* Ryouken barred his fangs.
"Stop fighting you two!" Atemu shouted. Atemu could understand the animals and speak to them.
*Sorry Master* Tanuki said, glaring at Ryouken.
*Whatever. I'll be home later* Ryouken said.
The young wolf mix took off running through the woods, his Master called after him but the wolf wouldn't stop. He ran out of the woods toward his hiding place an old burned down barn. Ryouken went into the barn and laid down on a pile of old hay.
*Stupid Tanuki always picking on me. I hate him* Ryouken cried. Ryouken soon fell asleep on the warm hay.

Atemu and the other hounds arrived home. They lived in a small house on the edge of the woods no other humans around for miles. Atemu didn't mind though he liked the quiet and loved spending time with the animals of the woods.
Atemu took the deer carcass off the back of his horse and laid it on the ground. He turned back to the stallion.
"You can go now Yabun," Atemu said.
The black horse trotted off into the small pasture to graze. Atemu turned his attention back to the carcass on the ground and dragged it to the house he put it on the picnic table near the backdoor. The three hounds followed Atemu inside. Atemu turned on the light and put his gun by the back door.
"Ryouken," Atemu called. "I guess he's not back yet," Atemu replied sadly. He looked down at Tanuki. "Do you always have to pick on him, Tanuki?"
*He's a stupid half-breed," Tanuki said.
The young foxhound beside Tanuki howled. *Yup a stupid half-breed!* laughed Kori.
Karu hit Kori on the head with his paw. *Quiet!* Karu ordered. Karu went to off to the kitchen.
Kori rubbed his head. *Ow! Mean stupid brother* whined the pup.
Karu was six years older than his brother Kori and four years older than Tanuki and Ryouken. He was the most mature and tried to keep peace between the half wolf and the coonhound.
"You guys find something to do, I'm gonna get dinner ready" Atemu said. He went back outside to skin the deer and prepare it for cooking.
* * * * *
Deep in the woods Ryouken was just waking up. The wolf mix got to his feet and looked around. He yawn and stretched.
*I should get back* Ryouken sighed.
Ryouken slowly walked out of the barn and back through the woods. He started to run, the smell of a deer cooking touched his nose and he knew dinner was almost ready. Ryouken's nose could smell food from miles away.
Ryouken's ears picked up on Atemu's voice calling his name. The wolf mix ran faster through the woods.
Atemu called for Ryouken once more. Tanuki came up beside his master.
*Why are you calling for that dumb mutt anyway?* Tanuki growled.
"Tanuki! Knock it off!" Atemu scolded. "He's as welcome here as you are. This is his kill so you need to hush up and get along with him."
*I could have killed it too! My dad was a great hunter and so am I!*
"Tanuki please," Atemu groaned.
Ryouken emerged from the woods, he walked up to Atemu.
*Sorry for running off, Master*
"Dinner's ready Ryouken," Atemu said.
The boy scratched the Wolf's head.
"Your eating inside today, keep you away from Tanuki," Atemu said.
*I'm not afraid of him* Ryouken growled.
"Yeah. Yeah. I know. I know, Atemu groaned. "Just eat inside, keep the peace please. for me?"
*All right. Sorry*
Ryouken followed his Master inside the house. He slowly walked to his dish, sniffing the meat. He licked the deer then bit into it. The meal was finished within a few seconds.
*Delicious* Ryouken grinned.
Ryouken went into the living room and laid on the floor, listening to the sound of birds on the Television. The wolf heard Tanuki coming into the house, Karu and Kori following close behind him. Ryouken was hit in the side, jumping to his feet he growled angrily at Tanuki.
*Oops * Tanuki laughed.
*Ya wanna fight Tanuki huh? Is that what you want? Huh?* Ryouken growled.
*Yea lets* Tanuki barred his teeth.
The two animals jumped at each other. It was a fury of claws and teeth as the two animals tore into each other. Atemu ran into the room, he gasped.
"Stop it you two! Enough!" Atemu shouted.
*Stop!* Karu barked.
Both animals back off each other and looked up at their master.
*Master!* Tanuki gasped. The coonhound collapsed on the floor.
"Tanuki!"
Atemu held the dog in his arms.
"Are you okay, boy?" Atemu asked.
*I'll be fine. I'd never let that half-breed beat me*
*Sorry Master* Ryouken apologized. *He hit me first*
"Out! Ryouken go outside to your house!"
Ryouken looked at Atemu then down at Tanuki. He ran out of the house though the dog door and into the approaching night. Atemu laid Tanuki down and ran to the door in time to see the wolf mix running into the woods.
"Ryouken!" Atemu yelled. Atemu sighed, he went back inside to tend to the coonhounds wounds.
Ryouken ran faster through the woods, even when hearing his name called he kept running until the woods ended. He stopped and look at his surroundings.
*I hate that stupid dog* Ryouken whined.
Then Ryouken heard it, the sound of a howling wolf. Ryouken's ears twitched.
*Another?* he thought.
Ryouken remembered his first encounter with a wolf pack a couple years ago. He was hurt badly and almost killed.
*I'd just be a half-breed to them too*
Ryouken heard the howling again and decided to run toward the voice. He ran across the dirt road and into the forest.
On top of a hill a white wolf sat, it howled again. Ryouken slowly approached the white wolf. The wolf suddenly turned around and starred at Ryouken. The wolf growled at Ryouken, a warning to keep away. Then the white wolf jumped off the cliff.
*Wait!* Ryouken howled.
Ryouken gasped and ran to the edge of the cliff, he looked down. The white wolf was gone.
*What the...* Ryouken gasped. *That was a 50 foot drop!*
Ryouken walked back towards his Master's house, puzzled about the mysterious White wolf, wondering who he was and how he walked away from a fall like that?
When Ryouken arrived home it was pitch black outside. He slowly walked up to his wolf house and went inside. Ryouken turned around twice to get comfortable then laid down. Within minutes the hound was fast asleep.
