As the Candle Burns
As the Candle Burns
By Veil of Illusions
Darkness comes to swallow the light.
My twisted heart cries out,
Captured in an endless night,
My breathing comes in rapid bouts.
The tears roll softly down my cheeks.
The candle’s light flickers.
From the screams I can not speak,
My troubled mind bickers.
The blood pools on the ground.
What am I supposed to feel?
The flame slowly burns down.
Was it actually real?
Is anyone there for me?
The pain will swallow me whole.
Darkness engulfs me.
Human emotions take their toll.
I can still hear my screams.
The barrier has been broken.
My virgin light no longer gleams.
A flickering spark his only token.
Floating in the realms of dreams,
I review my current life.
All the painful memories.
Will I ever be all right?
Please lend me your hand
Befohe lhe light fades away.
Help me if you can.
Will you end this twisted game.
My mind and heart are shattered
For my soul is the flame.
A body broken and battered.
Will you release me from the pain?
The wind whispers in my ear
Threatening to douse the flame.
My path is no longer clear.
No one but me can I blame.
Before my light dies
Can destiny really turn?
For you, love, I will try
As the candle burns.
A/N this poem was originally written for me but when I reread it months later I added a few verses to talk about rape. I hope As the Candle Burns opened your eyes onto the al sal struggle people can go through and how much you need to be there for your friends in good times and in bad. Please tell me what you tink and I may post some of my other poems.
