Kiss of the Blade

Her life is torn between two extremes: a life of constant love and love lost or an eternity in Hell for ending the torture that she thought would always be her life. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing more love than she had left within her. She opened her sewing drawer and pulled out the scissors, but how was she to complete the task set before her? Was she to ram the sharp blade into her temple? No. Should she stab herself in the heart, the cause of all her pain to begin with? Tempting, but no. With those choices in mind, she brought the edge of the blade to her wrist and slashed the pale skin, torrents of blood gushing from her self-inflicted wound. She took the scissors in her other hand then, trembling slightly, and did the same with her other wrist. Both times, she hardly winced as the cold metal bit her skin; it was less pain than she had been through for so many years. Her lovers, either dead to the world or dead to her, flashed through her mind as her life escaped her veins.

Before she fell to the floor, flooded with blood from her veins and moonlight streaming from the window, she was caught in the arms of her long lost love. She looked up with icy gray eyes and saw him: his eyes that could peer into her soul, his hair that captured the sun in the day and the moon at night. She smiled slightly and began to whisper his name before she became limp. He gathered her up in his arms and placed her gently on the bed, the blood still flowing, staining his clothes and bed sheets. He picked up the bloody scissors from the floor, sat on the edge of the bed, and brought the blade to his own wrist. With his other hand, he lifted her up, only slightly conscious now, and put his bleeding wrist to her lips. Realizing what he was doing, she weakly turned her head away from him, his blood dripping down her lips and chin. He propped her head towards him and brought his wrist to her lips once again.

“Drink, my love, he whispered to her. “Drink deep.”

She tentatively put her lips to his gashed wrist and began to drink. His blood in her mouth was the sweetest thing she had ever tasted. She clamped her hands around his wrist with all the strength she has left and held onto him for dear life as she drank more of his liquid silk that poured down her throat. He could feel her heart beating faster and faster, beginning to match with his. Unable to let her drink any more without succumbing to his own death, he pulled himself away from her. Clutching his arm to his chest, he fell back into a chair next to the bed as she lay back on the bed. Her smile, stained with his blood, then turned to sheer ecstasy as the fire of his blood flowed through her veins. She arched her back and moaned as this feeling swept over her. Then, her pleasure became pain as she began to curl her body into a ball. Her body jerked on the bed as the vampiric virus invades her body: slowly, torturously killing her body as she became one like her beloved. She gripped the blankets, her head thrown back, and screamed as the last breaths of mortal life left her. He watched her intently, his eyes never leaving her writhing body; he had never seen anything so beautiful in his life.

Her body lay still: her eyes closed, her lips parted slightly with blood dripping out the side of her mouth, her hands loosely held onto the bed sheets. He quietly walked over towards her and carefully sat on the edge of the bed. He took one of her hands in his and saw the gash on her wrist had begun to heal. As that hand held hers, he ran his other hand up her slender arm and gazed up at her face. Her countenance, earlier gaunt and sunken, slowly became like it once was. Her hair that hung in dull, lifeless strands from personal neglect morphed back to its full, shiny waves of auburn. A slight blush flushed through her cheeks, and her lips regained their color and fullness. He brought his hand up to her cheek to caress it, but when his cold skin touched hers, her eyes fluttered open. Bright blue orbs looked at the man sitting on the bed with new vision: she saw miniscule scars from his former life on his once thought flawless skin, and she noticed flecks of silver dust in his eyes that give them their mystical radiance. He put his hand behind her neck and lifted her up gently. Her eyes kept scanning his face, still can’t believing that he was there with her now.

“What are you looking for when you’re looking at me like that?” he asked with a light smile.

With tears forming in her eyes and a hand reaching up to touch his face, she replied, “I just can’t believe you’re here.” A tear ran down the side of her face. “I thought you died,” she said with a shaking voice.

He brought her body up to his, holding her tightly to him with one arm and the other cradling her head as she cried on his shoulder. “I did die, but I was given a new life. A wonderful gift that I received…” he kissed her forehead “…and have given to you.”

“But how did you find me?”

“Your soul cried out to me in pain. Your heart cried out to me in heartache. Your blood cried out to me as it flowed from your veins. I didn’t think it was wise to come to you so soon after you thought I had died. I thought that you would move past me and find someone else in your future, but all of them treated you horribly and made you feel even worse than when you did after I had left. I could live out my new life knowing you were happy and got what you deserved. If I left you to take your life, as full as it could be, I couldn’t live with myself knowing that I could have saved you…” he held her face in his hands gently. “And only the strongest connection with someone could allow me to feel what you were feeling and give me the ability to find you before you were past all hope.”
