Dee and Gee

Warning: This will get angsty at some point and there might be eventual NC-17, for now, I’d probably rate it a PG-13, maybe 15?. This story is really cliché. On top of that, there are many yaoi and yuri pairings. This means m/m, f/f. Avril bashing and Spears bashing

A/N: This story is not about the love story of Dee and Gee. They are best friends. And Dee happens to be GAY.
Dee and Gee

I walked down the halls of the music school. I carried all the books I needed with me. Sweat trickled down my back. I was finally going to take the 6th Nyssma test for the piano and violin. The last level would be hard and if I didn’t get an A, I would have to wait another year to take it. I’d waited two years already. The first year, I’d had so much homework I’d had no time to practice my instruments. This year, I’d made sure to get everything over with and I practiced until midnight. I waited nervously for the person ahead of me to finish. I winced, hearing the person hit a flat note. It was an easy piece for the level four. If I passed with a 100, maybe I’d be good enough to get into Julliard. I was really good; I just didn’t have the connections. Once I saw a piece of music, I would be able to play it. Unfortunately, no one from Julliard had ever encountered me but I knew it was my fate to do something great involving music. Otherwise why would I feel so at peace with it?
I am in 10th grade, going into 11th. I’d be leaving my life in my town this year to go to a boarding school. Not one of those boring same sex schools but the best boarding school there was to offer and it was co-ed. I worried about if I would fit in. My parents were the richest in the town but that wasn’t saying much as my town didn’t have much to offer anyways. Everyone else at Meteor was filthy rich. I was the first kid who wasn’t to be accepted into the school. My town was small and hardly had anything. Most people didn’t even know it existed. I’d gotten a full scholarship to Meteor h wah was kind of relieving to my parents but also insulting by the fact that it kind of implied that they weren’t rich enough to pay their youngest child’s tuition. It was kind of true anyhow. They also had to pay my older siblings’ college tuitions. I had two brothers and two sisters, Marcus, Danny, Chrysanthemum and Henriette. They were quadruplets.
I was thinking about my life and fiddling with my black hair when the door opened. The person came out and I entered. I was surprised to see that the teacher was a young man who looked about my age. He had blonde hair and teal eyes. I handed him the books that were required and then sat down on the piano bench. He asked me to play a few scales as was the routine. Next I played the piece I had chosen for the test. Theng mng man murmured to himself. He asked me to sight read and then the test was over. It was the same procedure for the violin. Finally I sighed with relief; the test was finally over, now I jneedneeded to wait for the test scores to come out. The young man looked up and smiled. He was quite nice actually.
I smiled back and then left the room. Finally after an hour of waiting, my test scores were finally out. I’d gotten the 100s! As I was making my way out of the crowd I heard someone call my name. I turned around and the young man was making his way towards me.
“I’d like to commend you on your brilliant performance.”
“Thank you Mr. umm.”
“Denare Gazing and you are obviously Garnet Fire. It’s a pretty name. Please call me Dee.”
“Thanks. Call me Gee.”
“So, um, what grade are you in? I’m in 10th going into 11th.”
“Wow, so am I! What town do you live in?”
“Right now, since it’s the summer, I’m in Lenis. I go there every summer to visit my aunt. It’s a break from the big city. I volunteered to help with the Nyssma program this year. So now I take the bus to here.”
“Oh my god! I live in Lenis. What school do you go to?”
“Meteor.”
“Whoa, this world must be really small. I’m going to Meteor next year.”
“Cool! That means we can go together when school starts. I’ll be able to show you around. So where in Lenis do you live?”
“West Street, Cherry Lane.”
“Dude! Do you know Mrs.Gale?”
“Yeah, she’s my neighbor.”
“She’s my aunt!”
“No way!”
“Yes way!”
“Then would you like a rhomehome?”
“If it’s not a problem.”
“Huh! As if!”
Dee and Gee. Doesn’t that sound cute? On the way back we found that we were exactly the same. Our favorite band is Simple Plan. Our favorite song is Addicted. Our favorite color is green, favorite shade is emerald. Our favorite movie is Bring It On. Our favorite Disney character is the Genie. We both like sunsets. I parked the car in the garage after letting Dee out.
I climbed up to my room and looked out the window. There was Dee waving to me. I waved back. Our houses were placed close together with one tree in between. He climbed out his window, stepped on a tree branch and came into my room.
“Wow! It looks exactly like my room!”
“No way!”
He dragged me out of my window, over the tree and into his room. Astonishing. Exactly the same. Same emerald walls, same exact furniture, same bed sheets, same computer, same posters on the wall. From that day on we were inseparable. For the rest of the summer you’d see the ‘twins’ walking in town. We rode on our bikes or surfed. Come on, we live on the edge of California, how can we not have a beach? It was always Dee and Gee. Dee also played the piano and the violin. Many people would think that we were a couple be ase assured them that we were just best friends. Dee’s pretty sure he’s gay and we’re both pretty sure that we don’t have feelings for each other.
Pretty soon September came and we were on our way to Meteor. We switched off driving in my car. It was a 12 hour drive. By the time we got there, we were exhausted. We’d arrived a day early. It was a tradition with him and his friends. I’d only hope that they’d accept me in their group. I walked into their living room. Dee introduced me to his friends and soon my fears were gone. They were like Dee; they didn’t treat me like I was lower than them because I wasn’t as rich. They didn’t even care, that I was Dee’s friend was proof that I was good enough. They were all very attractive, so that even though I felt at ease with them, I couldn’t help thinking that maybe my thick black hair, warm brown eyes and pale skin wasn’t appealing enough.
There were the Chinese brother and sisters, Ling and Mei, black hair, black eyes. Then there was Cherry with her cherry blond hair and turquoise eyes and her brother, Emerald, with his dark and rich auburn hair and emerald eyes. There was Dana with her long blonde hair and light blue eyes, and Lina with her darker blonde hair and cornflower blue eyes. There was Dare with his brown hair and cobalt blue eyes and Kai with his dark brown hair and dark blue eyes. Sandie with her gold hair and light green eyes, Nance and Fern, twin sisters with blue black hair and periwinkle eyes. There was also Kayori, Lina’s brother with his white blond hair and ice blue eyes, Stella with her brown hair and hazel eyes and her boyfriend Markes with his light brown hair and imperial blue eyes. There was Anna, Markes’ sister with her red hair and blue eyes. And of course there was Dee.
Dee’s roommate was Ling. I’d deduced that Dee had feelings for Ling from the way that he talked about him so much. I was pretty sure that Ling returned those feelings by the way he first glared at me when Dee introduced me and then visible relaxed when Dee said that we were only friends. Dare and Kai were already a couple and they were roommates. Dana and Lina, Sandie and Nance, Fern and Cherry, Kayori and Mei, and Markes and Stella were also room mating couples. We lived off campus. We were all in one house which had only eight rooms. I groaned to myself. That meant that I would have to room with Emerald. Of all the people I got stuck with it was Green Eyes. Arg, I was such a sucker for green eyes, and of all shades of green, they were emerald. God, even his name was Emerald. I was so screwed now. Not only were his eyes emerald, he was so goddamned hot. I’d be making a fool out myself and he’d be wondering how he got stuck with such a psycho as his roommate. I’ve decided that life from when you’re a baby on sucks because you start to like other people of the other sex or yours. And then you end up looking stupid.
So far as I knew, from what Dee’d told me, Emerald was the richest kid in the school. He was the most popular and attractive guy in school. He’d gone through dozens of relationships, they’d never lasted more than a week, whether it was another male or a female. He always roomed by himself. He was usually quiet, lending him a mysterious kind of look. I walked over and stuck my hand out and introduced myself. He led me to our room. it was all the way at the end of the hall and it was the biggest room. Each room we passed had the names of the occupants pinned on the door and around the door handles there were those don’t disturb signs that are often seen in hotels. I carried my bags into the room and looked around me. Em, as most peocallcalled him, had already occupied one of the beds by the window. The walls were painted the same emerald as my room at home. There were some posters that I would have died to get because they were so expensive hanging on the wall. My jaw hit the ground. I walked over, my fingers reverently skimming the posters.
“You can have them if you really like them that much.”
I blushed uncomfortably and put my hands behind my back.
“Nah, it’s ok. What would I do with such an expensive thing anyways? I wouldn’t want it to get stolen. Besides, it’ll still be hanging here because now I live here for most of the year too.”
“No, I meant it. It’s really rare that I meet someone like you who likes them so much.”
“Gee, thanks. Here, you can have this one.”
I gave him my favorite anime poster with one of the rare signatures of the voice artists on it. He looked up at me with disbelief. I blushed again afraid that he would think that it was a very cheap gift.
“Do you know how hard it is to get Hinuya Koicho’s signature?”
“Not really, I mean, I have more than one of his signatures.”
“How? I’ve been trying to contact him for ages.”
“Umm.” How on earth was I going to tell him without him using me to get to my cousin? I resolved to tell the truth because lies sometimes get a little out of hand.
“He’s my cousin.”
I swear the dude had a heart attack right then.
“What?!!! Are you kidding? Oh my God! What’s he like?”
“Uh, he’s just a normal guy, he likes what he does and he’s living what I would call a well fulfilled life.”
To my surprise he practically jumped on me.
“Thank you so much for this.”
“No, no, thank you for the rare poster.”
“Are you kidding? My dad owns the company that makes them. So we’re even.”
Now it was my turn to have a heart attack. I guess we were even after all.
“Awww, look how well Em and Gee are getting along. Our two precious jewels, Emerald and Garnet.”
I looked at the door and saw Dee smiling evilly with Ling behind him. I smiled evilly back in return. Oh no you don’t, I thought. You’re not getting away with anything.
“Hey Ling!” I called in a overly sweet voice. I plugged my stereo in, turned it on and then I skipped over to where they stood. My favorite song was playing. I pounced on Ling and dragged him into ourm anm and started to dance with him. When I dance, NO ONE can withstand me. I flash an evil grin at Dee who has a look of terror in his eyes. The song ends and I pull Ling in close.
“Ling?”
“Huh?
“Has Dee ever told you how much he loves your eyes, your hair, your scent?”
“What?!! NO!”
“Really, because he seems to talk about these things about you to me a lot.”
I was steering us closer and closer to the door and shove him onto Dee. Then I slam the door in their faces. And pull it back open to find them tangled in a mess on the ground. I laugh evilly and yell, “The Queen of paybacks has prevailed once more.”
And then I walk back into the room. Pretty soon I hear smacking sounds coming from the doorway. I turn around and see Dee and Ling making out on the floor.
“Euch! Gross! Get a room!”
“You’re just pissed because you ain’t getting any!” I narrow my eyes at Dee who eeps and hides behind Ling who also cowers underneath my wrathful gaze.
“That is one payback I get to claim and one favor you owe me because if it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t be getting any either!”
Dee groans and then drags Ling back to their room. I hear Em snickering behind me. I whirl around and see him rolling on the ground. He’s desperately trying not to laugh. I hear more snickering noises coming from the hall. I look and everyone’s out there trying really hard not to laugh but not succeeding.
“You can laugh you know. It’s not like it’s gonna kill you. Besides, what is so funny?”
Full blown laughs start going everywhere. Finally Em lifts hi head up and gasps out,
“Ling’s never been seduced by anyone that way before. And he’s never cowered beneath a girl before.”
He lets his head fall back on the floor and resumes laughing. Sexist pig.
“I. Am. Not. Just. Any. Girl.”
At times like these, I resort to my faithful violin. I took it out of its case. I started playing my angry piece, Satanic Anger. I poured my emotions out onto the familiar strings. My fingers flew over the strings lovingly. I switched to Pain in the Soul, and then to Joy in the Heart, and finally I came back to Satanic Anger. Losing myself in the moment I was oblivious to everything else around me. All three pieces I had played were written by mysethe the titles were cliché, but I rather liked them. The tunes combined into the last piece I had written. It was called Life. My body swayed to the music. I started playing faster and faster but still it seemed to me that I could never reach the speed that I wanted the song to be. My eyes flew open but did not see anything besides the music, the images it was painting. Finally my violin couldn’t bear it ore ore and one of the strings snapped with a big twang, whacking me in the face. I could feel the tiny drops of blood sliding down my face. I was starting to come back into the real world again. I wiped a drop of blood off with my finger. I licked it off tasting the bitter metallic taste of it.
I looked up and saw everyone staring at me. Their faces showed shock Their eyes were bulging out and their jaws were hanging down. I sighed to myself. Great, now they probably thought I was some kind of wacko. I took the broken string and and replaced it with a new one. I didn’t need to tune it, I knew automatically if an instrument was in tune or not. I packed my violin away.
“Wow.”
“You’re awesome!”
“You must be some kind of genius or something.”
I was bombarded with questions and compliments from all different directions.
“You should enter the competition.”
Competition? This was starting to get interesting. Maybe someone would see me and want me to join Julliard. I knew that I was ready to take on anyone who wanted to compete against me. Next morning Em took me to enlist for the competition. I entered the piano and violin in. I didn’t want to take any chances. Em signed up as flute and he signed Dee as piano and violin too. We went to the big auditorium as it was the first day of school. We listened to the Dean drone on and on. Afterwards Em showed me around the campus. Dee, the said ex-best friend, had dumped me in favor of his new boyfriend, Ling. Need I say more? So much for “I’ll never anyone come between our friendship”, that never works out. So now Em and I were best buds. Aswalkwalked through the gardens where many groups were gathered I got to see just how popular Em was. There were cat calls everywhere and people constantly asking him out on dates. One guy, Fins, who I gathered gave many splendid parties asked our friends to come. Or rather it went this way.
“Hey Em babe, how’s about you come over tonight? I’m giving another party. Bring your friends and your hot looking chick with you.” I smiled sweetly at the jerk and then calmly flipped him off.
“Hey Eeemm, what’sss uuppp.” A slinky looking blonde came up to Em and wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Not now Sil.”
“You always say that.” She pouted. I almost puked on the spot.
“I wonder why.” I muttered.
“What was that?” She glared at me.
“Just because you’re deaf doesn’t mean that I should go through the troubles of repeating myself” Everyone snickered
“Arg! You’re not worth wasting time on.” She turned back to Em.
“Em hon, come with me to the music competition?”
“Can’t, I’m going with my bud, Gee over here.” Sil glared at me even more but if looks could kill, it wouldn’t do much anyways, I’ve got thick skin.
“So you’re competing too huh? Better back out before it’s too late. You have no idea what you’re up against.”
She took out her violin. Many people think that new, shiny violins are the best, that’s bullshit. She was obviously one of those people. She started playing. Oh my god it was awful. The whole place was filled with screeches. She ended whatever song she’d been trying to play and bowed. She took everyone’s shocked looks as shocked as in they were surprised at how good she was. The violin may have been ugly, but it certainly didn’t deserve to be treated that way. Sil smirked at me. Wow, this girl was even more clueless than I thought. I glared at her and she thought I was jealous. I rolled my eyes and just grabbed the instrument from her.
“Hey! What’re you doing?”
It was just as I thought. It wasn’t tuned and the bow wasn’t even rosined. I rosined the bow and tuned the violin.
“What the hell is you’re problem? How can you even think about competing if your violin isn’t tuned and your bow isn’t even rosined?”
She obviously had no idea what I was talking about.
“I think you’re just jealous.”
“You want to hear real music? Listen to this.”
I started to play a quick melody from Chekov. She glared at me even more. I packed her violin away and tugged on Em’s arm to get us out of there. I didn’t think I could stand her anymore. She pulled my arm off of Em’s. Once more she tried to get Em’s attention.
“Aw Em babe, come with me to Fins’ party tonight?” I saw the look of revolt on Em’s face as she hooked her arms around him again. She took it as a sign that he was holding back, his emotions she thought, his puke I knew.
“Aww honnie, you’re so sweet, you don’t have to be so shy. I know you love me.”
“Um, I can’t go because I’m taking Gee.” She glared at me again.
“But look, I can dance so much better than she can.”
She switched on Genie in a Bottle and tried to dance. Everyone puked in the bushes. I switched it to a radio station where a good song was playing. I started swaying, my hips swiveling around. Everyone started cat calling. Then the rap part came on and I started to break dance. If Sil glared any harder, she’d be permanently crossed eyed. At the end of the song when I had started to swing my hips again, I walked up to Em, pushed Sil off and started to bump and grind with him. The song ended and I reached up and pulled Em’s face close to mine and gave him the best spit swapping kiss of his lifetime. We kissed until we needed to come back up for air. Then we both turned around and flipped Sil off. As I walked off with Em, side by side, I turned around, smirked evilly and said,
“Beat that, bitch!”
We got onto Em’s bike and rode away with a big vroom. We were heading into town. Meteorite was more like a city than a town. There were tall office buildings, restaurants, clubs, apartment buildings, townhouses everywhere. We explored the streets and I window shopped. There were so many wonderful anime shops in this town, I was in heaven.
“Hey Gee?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks for helping me back there.”
“No problem. What’re friends for?”
I was kind of sad that he only thought of me as a friend but I also wanted a more permanent relationship than one that lasted a week. Em took me to his dad’s house. Nina, his step mom, pinched my cheek and said that it was the first time Em’d ever brought a girl home. I blushed uncomfortably and glared at Em. He just shrugged his shoulders and left me to his mother hen of a step mom. Afterwards we went shopping for groceries. Many of the grocery lists consisted of tons of junk food. After getting home and packing the food away, we got ready for the party
Em ran to the shower first. He took such a long time. You’d think that since he was a guy he’d be so much quicker. Quick my ass. He was like a old granny. I put on the stereo with Avril on at full blast. I’d gotten the Avril Lavigne CD because it drove everyone crazy and I figured that I could endure her yodeling in order to get my way. It worked.
“GEE! TURN THAT BITCH OFF!” Em’s yell was reinforced by the painful screams of everyone else in the building. I ran to our room door and locked it.
“NOT UNLESS YOU HURRY UP WITH YOUR SHOWER!” The bathroom door opened and a wet looking Em ran out with his towel wrapped around his waist to turn the stereo off. I took advantage of this moment and ran into the bathroom.
“GEE! NO FAIR! I’M STILL SOAPY AND GROSS!”
“TOUGH!” Em turned on the stereo again, this time to Britney Spears. I could hear everyone’s screams again.
“HEY! JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT AS ORIGINAL AS I AM DOESN’T MEAN I GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO COPY MY IDEAS!” I was too busy screaming at him to notice that the lock was being unlocked. He burst in.
“AAAAAHHHHHH! PERV!” I chucked my shower gel bottle at him. Ha! That should prevent him from ever doing that again. Five second later he was pounding on the door again.
“GEE! HURRY UP!”
I finished washing my hair and opened the door. Em was leaning on the door and fell down. I stepped on him as I was walking out. He simply grunted. I don’t weigh much. At five feet nine inches I weigh very little. I told people my real weight they’d freak out. I’m not anorexic though. I eat a ton, I just have very small bones, a fast metabolism and do a lot of energy sucking activities. Such as sports, and instruments, not to mention the energy I need to send to my brain in order to do my homework, just kidding.
I looked through my clothes trying to find something that would suit the occasion. I found out that I had absolutely no idea what I should wear to the party. I looked through the closet, not even being sure on what colors I should wear. A hand plucked an outfit from underneath mye. Ie. I spun around in surprise. Em was standing there in his outfit. He wore an dark emerald skin tight sleeveless shirt and tight black leather pants. I saw the outfit he’d taken out for me to match his. My bright red tube top and tight leather pants. He’d solved my problem, I smiled my thanks at him and went to change.
After changing I brushed my hair out. I just let it loosed, a long black curtain down my back. I painted my nails a bright red. Then after my nails dried I went to put my red stilettos on and we left. No make up, it easily smudges and it causes messes when people get action. It also clogs up pores. Besides, my beauty is all natural or so I like to tell myself. I hate the sick look of painted, fake faces. I can tell that the rest of my female friends don’t like it either as they haven’t gotten any on. You were born with a face of your own. Why and try to hide it? Just let people see and accept you for who you are We arrive at Fins’ huge house. The lawn was filled up with lights. There were many crowds of people inside and out. We headed straight for the dance floor. On the way there we pass many rooms filled with couches. Some of them are filled with people passing a joint around and getting dead drunk. Other rooms are filled with couples making out. Finally we reach the immense dance floor. It’s crowded with tons of people. We’re the latest ones. It’s currently fashionable to be late. I couldn’t care less about being cool. I do care about what people think about me because I don’t want them to get bad impressions. However, if I try to correct myself and they still don’t like me then it’s just their loss. I do what I like because I know what I want and not because other people are doing it. I dance because I like it, not because it’s cool. I try to be nice. I usually am, but if I lose it, it’s usually the other person. Like Sil, she was really asking for it.
“Hey new girl! What’s your name?” A group of guys started asking me questions.
“Gee.”
“Where you from?”
“Lanis.”
“Lanis huh? What is that? Some beggar town? Never heard of it.”
“Lanis is where I go every summer to visit my aunt. It’s really cool. I met Gee there and it turns out we were neighbors the whole time and didn’t even know it.” I looked at Dee gratefully.
“Cool. Sorry ‘bout that. Must be an awesome town.”
I hated how having the right friends or money made people in this school like you. I wanted to be liked for myself. I thought longingly about my friends back home but then decided that my friends here weren’t so bad either.
“So, ever had any dances there?” I rolled my eyes. These guys were really stupid. I ignored them.
“Betcha can’t dance. That’s what Sil said.” I narrowed my eyes. There the bitch went again.
Suddenly the music switched to a fast beat. I recognized it. It was one of the Spanish dances that we’d had to learn in dance class. The name had momentarily gone fro min mind. Everyone gathered around Em to watch him dance. Sil pushed through the crowd to be his female partner. I watched from the inside circle. He was doing the moments wrong, but he didn’t know it. Sil was just getting in the way.
“You’re doing it wrong.” I spoke clearly and loudly. The music stopped and everyone gasped.
“Would you like to show how it’s done then?” Em smiled at me gently.
The music started over again. I started the dance. My body gentling swaying into the familiar movements. Em was a fast learner. He quickly figured out what he was doing wrong and corrected it. After we were done everyone clapped. Sil yelled everyone asking if they couldn’t see that I was doing it wrong and that she was the right one. We just ignored her. Then Em asked me to join the dance competition with him. This made Sil even madder.
“What! You can’t do that!! You’re my dance partner!” That did it. Em finally snapped.
“You don’t get it do you?!! I don’t like you, no one does! I’ve tried to give you hints that I want you to leave me alone but I guess being nice doesn’t make you get the point. I will never be yours! And you live in your own deluded world where you think I’m actually going to be your guy. Just leave me alone.”
Sil seemed shocked for a moment and then ran off screaming.
Everyone started cheering. Em got lost in the crowd and everyone wanted to dance with me. After three hours of dancing, I decided that I should go back. I walked out of the lawn to find that Em had already left without me. I sighed and took a taxi back. I knew that none of my friends had left besides Em and the door was open. I knew that Em wouldn’t leave the door open so I concluded that someone had broken in. I took a skillet from the kitchen and looked through the rooms. The last room left was mine and I heard noises in there. The burglar had to be in there. I opened the door slowly and crept in. I crept over to where the noises seemed to be coming from and switched the lights on. I raised the skillet, ready to take on the burglar. Instead I saw Em and a beautiful girl making out on his bed. I flipped out.
“Gee, why do you have a skillet in your hand?”
‘Because I thought you were a burglar.”
“Why would you think that? Besides, didn’t we discuss the fact that when either of us was busy, the other one wouldn’t bother them and they would sleep in the living room?”
“Uh, yeah, but when we discussed that you didn’t say you’d leave the outside door open. What else was I supposed to do? Besides, we did discuss what we’d do to let the other person know but YOU forgot to put the sleeping bag outside the door as well as the sign.”
I glared at him and then went to go get my sleeping bag. I stomped out of the room and slammed the door behind me. It opened again. I spun around and faced an equally angry Em putting the ‘Don’t Disturb’ sign on the handle. He gestured at it to show that now he had it. I drew my finger across my throat and grabbed the door handle and slammed it in his face. It felt very satisfactory.
I slept on the couch. Just great! Not even two days pass and I’m already in a fight with my new best friend. The couch was so uncomfortable. I lay tossing and turning there. I got about two hours of sleep. I awoke to the smell of coffee and because I fell off the couch. I lay on the floor and didn’t notice when Dare and Kai came in. I saw Dare’s happy, evil smiling face and Kai’s smirking one before they dumped the bucket of water me and ran off to the kitchen. Dare was sitting on Kai at the table. I sat on both of them drenching them in water as well. Ling handed me a steaming cup of coffee. I mumbled my thanks not noticing the evil smirk on his face. It was burning hot and tasted awful. I spit it into his face and dumped the rest of it on him. Markes chuckled from where he was sitting. I turned and threw my cup at his head. He moved his head out of the way just in time and it hit the wall creating a dent in the wall. Everyone stared at it. Em came in with the girl and watched from the doorway.
“Wow, someone’s showing a great deal of maturity.” Sarcasm dripped off of his voice. I saw red. I grabbed one of the knives and threw it at him. It lightly grazed his cheek and landed deeply embedded into the wall.
“Next time I won’t miss.” The girl ran away from our house.
“Great! Look what you did!”
“So what, it’s not like it would’ve lasted anyways!” At that, he became really hurt.
Dee came in and his eyes widened as he took everything in. At least there’s one person who knows that I’m not a great morning person and that I’ve taken martial arts class before involving knife throwing. He rushed to my side and put his arms around me. I sank into his arms gratefully. He crooned the song my grandma used to soothe me. Cherry came in.
“Gee, you have a letter.” Her eyes widened as she took in the kitchen knife next to her brother’s head and the tiny trickle of blood on his cheek.
“Whoa! You know how to throw knives too? You’re way better than I am. I can only throw with special throwing knives.” That’s Cherry for you. She cares more about her knife throwing than the safety of her brother. I open the letter, it’s from my parents. My grandma is sick and maybe dying. Dee’s still crooning her song.
“Stop it! Stop it!” I’m yelling at him and weakly pummeling his chest.
“Gee! Stop it! Don’t you think you’ve done enough damage already?” Em pulled me away from Dee and held my wrists tightly. I wrenched them away from him and sank to the floor, the tears coursing down my face. Dee read the letter and hugged me, rocking back and forth.
“Sorry. I’m so sorry for being mean to you guys.” I apologized to them and buried my face in Dee’s shoulder.
“We’re sorry for provoking you too.” Everyone apologized.
“Oh God, oh God. Dee, she’s dying. She can’t be dying. She’s too good to end her life like that. I never told her how much I loved her. I never told her, Dee!” I’d had a fight with my grandma in eighth grade and we hadn’t talked since. I was always sorry but my pride wouldn’t let me apologize and she didn’t either. I ran over to the phone and dialed her number.
“Hello?” Her voice came on the phone. It used to be so strong and full of life. It hurt to hear it now, so weak and raspy. It was as if she’d given up on herself. If she, the one who always told people not to give up, had given up on herself, then what was I supposed to do?
“Grandma?”
“Gee?”
“Yes Grandma. It’s me, Gee. Grandma, I’m so sorry. I’m sorry for saying all those mean things and not apologizing sooner.”
“I’m sorry too. We shouldn’t have wasted all that time. Now we don’t have enough time left.”
“No Grandma! Don’t say that! You’re going to come visit me and you’re going to get better. You’re gonna be able to see me graduate from high school and college. You’re gonna see me get married and have kids. You can’t give up! You’ve always told other people not to give up. What are we supposed to do if you give up?”
“Gee, I am dying and I’m not giving up. I’m holding on as long as I can. I will come and visit you. But the doctors have confirmed that I only have three weeks left. I want to spend those precious weeks the best way I can. I don’t want to waste a single moment.”
“But you can get better. What about those people who were supposed to be dying but make it through? Maybe that’ll happen to you.”
“It won’t. I can feel my dear Jeannie boy calling for me. Soon I’ll be with your Grandpa, bless his soul. Bye my dear. I’ll be seeing you in two days.”
“Bye Grandma. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
I stared at the phone, listening to the click and then the bleeping of the disconnection. Dee pried it out of my hand. I hadn’t noticed I was holding it that tightly. He placed it gently back onto the receiver. He led me to back to the kitchen where everything had been cleaned up and Kai and Em were making breakfast. I followed him, not even knowing what I did. I ate my eggs without tasting them. I took a shower and put on my uniform, it was all done in while I was in a daze. I was sitting on my bed looking at the pictures of me and my grandma. Dare came in and asked me if I was all right. I nodded; it was all I could do at the moment. I was trying to brush my long hair and getting extremely frustrated with it. Having long hair himself and knowing the cons of it he offered to brush and braid it for me. I thanked him. Pretty soon my hair was brushed and braided.
“You know, we might not know each other that well, but you can always count on us.”
“Thank you. It’s weird, how I’ve only known you guys for three days but it feels like forever. You guys have already accepted me into your family. Thank you.”
“Hey, no problem. You’re part of our family now. Now smile.” I smiled weakly.
“I must look awful. My eyes must be all red and puffy and my face must be blotchy. I probably also have circles under my eyes.”
“Nah, you look fine. Just very vulnerable. The guys will totally dig that. They’ll want to protect you.” I chuckled weakly. Dare looked up and noticed Em had come out of the bathroom and was watching us. He said good-bye and left the room. Em and I left the house to go to classes. Our schedules were the same.
“So, are you ok?” I looked up at him. There was worry on his face.
“Yeah I guess. I mean, I never expected it to happen. It happens to the people you least expect it to you know? She was so full of life before and now she’s resigned to dying. I guess in a way, maybe she’s tired and it’s time for her to rest. But I just can’t help thinking how sad it is that we wasted three years and now we only have three weeks left.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Me too.”
“No, I mean about last night. I should’ve remembered instead of blaming it on you.”
“It’s ok. I’m sorry for messing up things between you and that girl. And I shouldn’t have said that mean remark.”
“It’s ok. You’re right, it wouldn’t have lasted anyways.”
“Stop! You can’t think about yourself that way! Maybe you just haven’t met the right person yet.” I wiggled my eyebrows for effect.
Our first class was English. Class starts at 9:30. The first day of classes was relatively easy. We didn’t have any homework. We basically just introduced ourselves and wrote a resume sort of paper about ourselves and handed them in at the end of class. Next was science. That was a big failure. Em and I were lab partners and he set off a loud explosion at the back of class causing me to squawk and fall out of my seat. As it was, my already very short skirt showed even more. I glared at Em as the class started whistling. I whacked him on the head after class.
“Hey! What was that for?”
“For letting everyone get a better view than they already have.” I growled while glaring balefully at my skimpy little short dark green skirt and my skimpy short sleeved blouse.
“Don’t blame me. Blame the perv that designed the uniform.” I snarled at him as he snickered.
“For all I know, it could’ve been you.”
“Nope, actually it was my dad. He got the idea from all the anime shows.”
“So that’s were you get you’re perviness from.”
“Nope, that’s totally mine.”
“I don’t doubt it.”
I got my revenge on him by plugging his flute in with tissue paper. He couldn’t play anything in Music. At lunch, he ate all my chips. In Math I made random comments that made him snicker throughout the whole class. In History, he threw the little note packets at my head. The little sharp points dug chunks out of my head. In Art, we splashed paint onto the canvas as a piece of modern art. Most of the paint ended up on us than the painting. After our classes were over, we dragged ourselves to sign up for the dancing competition. And then we rode home on his bike. We lied on the grass for half an hour before we got thirsty. We got our drinks and went to the pool. We put them down on the table and walked to the edge of the pool.
Kai and Dare sneaked up behind us and pushed us in but not before we pulled them in with us. The four of us engaged in a water fight, wet uniforms and all. Dare was seated upon Kai’s shoulders and I upon Em’s. Em and I won. Later, I lay on my bed, thinking about my teachers. They were all very nice but there was a hostile undertone under it all. I had a feeling that they didn’t like me because I wasn’t rich and they weren’t getting extra money by teaching me. However, my music teacher thought it was great for me that I got in and she really liked my audition today. She was tired of having to teach many stuck up and bratty kids. She was glad that someone who came from the same background as her was finally in this school. She told me that my Dance teacher would feel the same. I had yet to meet him or her. My art teacher felt exactly the same way too. However, the other teachers rather liked their positions.
I tried hard not to think that my grandma was dying, but it overshadowed everything else. The next day, after classes, she arrived at our house. She drove up in her beautiful bike, shiny black paint with blue flames crawling up the sides. Looking at her, one would think that she was healthy and far from dying. She looked pretty healthy, but the way her voice sounded gave away everything. It was weak, but she’d kept it cheerful so as not to bother me. She’d rented the house next to ours. Every afternoon my friends would come with me to see my grandma. On the first weekend, we took her to the local amusement park. We were afraid for her first but she’d insisted. She used the fact that she didn’t have much time left to make us agree to take her. Before we knew it, two weeks were almost over. One day, she brought up the topic of Em.
“He’s a good boy.”
“Who?” I asked innocently, praying that she wasn’t talking about who I thought she was talking about.
“Em.”
“Yeah, he’s a great friend. He’s a great person.”
“But you’d like to be more than friends.”
“Who wouldn’t?”
“True, if I were you, I’d try to be more than just a friend.”
“But you’re not me. Besides, I’d rather have a longer lasting relationship. The guy can’t make his relationships last more than a week.”
“You could be the one to break that record. And if it didn’t work out, you could still be friends.”
“I don’t think I could take that kind of pressure. It would be very awkward.”
“I think you should go for it.”
“Well I don’t.”
“If you don’t try, then you’ll never know.”
“If I try, maybe it won’t work and it’ll ruin everything. Besides, I’ve only known him for a little while.”
“Why should that stop you?”
“Let’s stop talking about this ok? We shouldn’t be fighting anyways.”
“Don’t change the subject. You like him, do something about!”
“Ok! We’ve already established the fact that I like him! We also established the fact that I’m scared!”
“Ahah! There we go. You’ve admitted it! You’re just scared, but that’s part of taking chances. And even if doesn’t work out, it’ll be worth it!”
She was pointing her finger at me, stabbing me the chest to place more emphasis upon her words. Suddenly, she gasped in pain. She clutched her heart and fell to the floor. I started screaming. Kayori came in and immediately ran to dial 911. Dana slapped me and I snapped out of my hysteria. The ambulance arrived and I rode in the ambulance, holding my grandma’s hand all the way. I ran down the hall with her. I watched as they rushed her into the operation room. I sat in the waiting room for a long time. The doctor came in. I ran over to hear the news about my grandma. He shook his head.
“She’s dying.”
“I already knew that.”
“No, she only has a few minutes left. You should go in to say good-bye to her.”
I walked to her bedside. She opened her eyes and gestured for me to come closer. She smiled weakly. I sat down and held her hand. She reached up and brushed away the tears that were falling down my face.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
“Yes it is. I shouldn’t have argued with you. Then you would have had another week.”
“A week or not, it makes no difference. I would have died. I’m just happy that I got to spend time with you. If it makes you feel any better, I forgive you even though you didn’t do anything. You have to stop blaming yourself.”
“I don’t deserve your forgiveness.”
“Make me a promise. Promise me!”
She tugged on my hand. I couldn’t say no.
“Promise!”
“I promise.”
“Good. Promise me that you’ll never let anything destroy your life.”
“What?”
“Just promise!”
“Fine. I promise never to let anything destroy my life.”
“Thank God. I’ve done my best to protect you. May God protect you. I hope that the calculations are wrong and the prophecy never comes true. My child, what horrors are in store for you. The princess, the prince. My God, save my child! The prince was always too late .. too late… don’t believe the sorceress … the princess! Oh my God the princess! It’s too late. History is about to repeat itself. You have to change it. Change it. It is within your power. Stop the cycle!”
She was mumbling incoherently about some legend. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight.
“I’m sorry, so sorry I didn’t tell you. I didn’t protect you enough. My fault, all my fault. Doesn’t know truth, find out, Gee, adopted, Jeannie, calling for me. I’m coming Jeannie. I failed, I failed to protect her. Jeannie waiting for me. Sorry.”
Her hand slackened. Her eyes closed and I waited for the next breath to come but it didn’t. Her body was cooling down. I clutched her hand and sobbed.
“NNNNNNNOOOOOOO! Grandma! You can’t leave me lthisthis! Don’t leave me Grandma! Grandma, come back!” I felt a breeze softly brushing against my cheek. I looked up and saw an image of my grandma.
“Be strong …” The breeze carried her message to me, and then it all just vanished. She was truly gone. I hugged her body close to me. I couldn’t accept reality. I wailed my grief out. Anyone passing by the room would have understood that there was someone who died in there. Ling tried to pry me away from her body. I held on tightly.
“Gee, she’s dead, and she’s not going to come back to life.”
After much coaxing, I allowed myself to be led away. I sat stonily there while Dee made the call to my family. I could hear the frantic panic from the other line. My family came the next few days. They claimed that it was not my fault, but the glances they spared me seemed to be accusatory to me. After the funeral was over, everything returned to as normal as it would get. We returned to our normal lives. I turned to wearing black, which was acceptable for me because the school knew that someone in my family had deceased. I was depressed. Every day I would finish my homework and then just lay on my bed, staring of in to space. I didn’t go to any parties. I rarely went out of the house. The smile was gone from my face forever. It would take a miracle to bring it back again. Today was the four month anniversary of my grandmother’s death. I had already gone to her grave and paid my respects to her. I was born into a Chinese family, but my last name was different. I wasn’t so sure that my family was my biological one anymore. After what my grandmother had said, I wasn’t so sure of anything anymore. And now I was getting flashbacks from when I was young and nightmares and dreams. I had had these when I was younger. I had once asked my mother why she looked so different from when I was young and why did we move into a poorer town. She had dismissed me with one of those, when you’re grown up, we’ll tell you, answers. The memories and dreams had disappeared and I had forgotten. Now was the time to ask her. I called my mother.
“Mom?”
“Gee! What a surprise! How are you honey?”
“Fine, thanks, and you?”
“Fine. So, anything happen lately?”
“Mom, am I adopted?” I heard her gasp before she quickly covered it up.
“What makes you ask that?” She sounded suspicious.
“Grandma said something among her last words about a prince and a princess and something about me being adopted. And I’m having these weird dreams and memories again.”
“Did Grandma say anything else?”
“No, she was just mumbling about some things. Like about how she didn’t protect me well enough and how she didn’t get the time to tell me the truth. What is the truth mom? You need to tell me.”
“Gee, wait one second. I need to go get you father.” This was getting more suspicious by the minute. It couldn’t be. I was their child. I had to be. I’d always known that I looked different from the rest of my family but I’d always thought that it could have been rare looks from my ancestors.
“Gee?” My father came on the phone now.
“Dad? You are my biological father right?” Please let him say yes.
“No. But you aren’t exactly adopted either.”
“What do you mean? Are you my step-father then?”
“Not exactly.”
“Will you please explain to me?”
“When you were three you were brought to our house by my mother, Grandma. She was under the employ of your real parents. However, in order to deflect suspicion, we couldn’t adopt you, so we made it seem like you were our child who had been switched with another one at the hospital. Our child, had in fact, died while we were traveling and her grave was not in the country, so our story was bought. No one knew that Grandma worked for your parents, so it was all right. We had to smuggle you out of your apartments. We almost failed in doing so. You see, your parents are the King and Queen of the faeries. They are imprisoned by the goblins. A war was going on and they knew that they would lose. They had to smuggle you out of the kingdom because you are the sole heiress to the faerie kingdom. It was prophesied at your birth that the cycle of the curse of Garnet would fall upon you. Garnet was a princess who suffered through much to be at the side of her beloved prince. An evil sorceress tricked the prince into going into the battle and then tricked the princess into committing suicide. The prince realized that it was a trick and rushed back to the palace to stop the princess, but he was too late. The curse is that thell bll be reincarnated over time but the prince is always too late to stop the princess. The way of death is always the same, the dagger. You have been born into the last cycle. Only you can stop it from ever happening again. You are not the kind to commit suicide. In this last cycle, you and your prince will have been named the same names as were your original souls in the beginning cycle. You were betrothed to the prince when you were both a few months old. However, you cannot know what his name is because it is lost from all documents. The goblins will not make this easy for us. For, you, you will not know what his name is, when he knows of this, he will not know your name either. The only way you can find out if he is the one is by your heart. Your old selves will also help you. Also watch to see if he has a stone like your garnet in his possession. But watch out for the goblins. Don’t ever commit suicide. Once you are free from the curse, your parents will be set free. But you can break it only if the prince is not too late. You might not commit suicide, but he has to proclaim his love for you. It is something he never got to do in your previous lives. It’s what keeps you guys going on. He is a prince as well. The prince of the Fae. Faeries and Fae are different. Everyone thinks that they are the same but they are not. If you two are united then the two nations will form the strongest one and that is what the goblins are afraid of. Faeries are like the fairies in the books, they have slightly pointed ears and thin, gossamer wings. Fae have angel wings, made of downy feathers. Your real name is Amaryllis Angelique Garnet Fire Serendipity. I’m sorry that we kept this from you for so long and that this is all that we can tell you. You can find your garnet in that jewelry box Grandma left you. Good-bye honey and good-luck.”

A/N: Not sure whether the whole story will be separated down into chapters once I\'m finished or if I\'ll keep it in this version.
