Children born without magic , candlings, are sent to boarding schools to learn a trade. Halos are sent to different temples, palaces, and realms etc. where their magic can be controlled by the Seraphates (a group of powerful magical women that teach the Halo’s to control their powers) A moon is the equvalent to a year, a pint is a week, a sept is a month and a circle is a day. there are no men in any realm. All men have been kept for many many moons in a prison at the edge of the Realm of the Dead. No one that is alive with the exception of seraphates are old enuff to have ever even see a man. Children are born from two or even three mothers. Sometimes women live in communities all beaing each others children as one family. All relationships are between women and considered appropriate.
Chapter One: Introductions
As Aurora sat listening to Sister Aragon about the history of the prophecies, She glanced around the room to her new classmates. Her eyes settled upon three new students. She had never seen any of them at the Seraphate academy before. Surely the sisters would have let us know if they had discovered three new halos with the ability to become Seraphates, She thought to herself. If you were born with the gift of magic in the middle realm you were referred to as a Halo. Becoming a Seraphate, a teacher of magic, was the highest honor that a halo could receive. Aurora had been in Seraphate Academy since she was the age of six moons. Almost all the students here had been here since they were of the same age.
“When a child is born there is always a Prophecy Auror in the birthing place. The Auror is always the first to touch the child. This way he or she can detect any magic coming from the child, and in so determine if the child is a Halo or a Candling. The Prophecy Aurors spend all of their moons traveling around the different lands touching beings, plants, and objects to collect prophecies. They record these in magical books called Rembers to keep track of them.”
Noticing she had lost the attention of most of her pupils Sister Aragon decided to tell one of the most interesting prophecies ever recorded. “One Prophecy, students, tells us of the four beings that will ultimately defeat The Entity and bring peace and joy to our lands forever.” At the name of The Entity Sister Aragon immediately had the attention of all of her students. “The Entity, as you all know, rules the realm of the dead. Only the Great Barrier keeps him and all of his minions at bay. He is constantly working on ways to break down the barrier. The Prophecy of the Four tells us that The Entity will eventually break down the barrier and He will rule along with his minions.” Noting that this was the first time she had the attention of every girl in the class she continued. It also tells us that four beings will be born at the same instant on the same day of the same moon. One from the Light Realm, one from the Middle Realm, one from the Dark Realm, and yes-even one from the Realm of the dead. One being from each of the four realms. It goes on to say that the four beings will meet in our realm, the Middle Realm, and go on to discover their powers work the most powerful magic ever known, but only when they use them together for a specific purpose. The prophecy warns us about the being from the realm of the dead. For this being is to try to turn the other three towards the side of darkness.”
At this point the tinkle sounded. All of the girls in the school referred to the tone that tells them when a session has ended, as the tinkle because of the soft sound it made.
“Girls before you go I would like to introduce you to some new Halos that have been entered into our academy. Girls please come to the front of the room Sister Argon motioned to the empty isle in front of her desk. The three new students Aurora had noticed, rose in unison as if the invisible strings of a puppeteer connected them. They moved silently to the front of the classroom each step seemed to be in sink. They each stopped and turned as one and faced the class. The first girl the one standing closest to Aurora was a true beauty. She had long, back curls that flowed to the small of her back. The bluish tint of her hair stood out in the rays of sun drifting from the window. Aurora sat taller in her seat to see her better and looked directly into her eyes. The eyes were emerald green with flecks of blue the, color of a cloudless sky, drifting through them. She was about five shifts tall the same height as Aurora herself. “Thank Mother, I’m not the tallest one anymore,” Aurora whispered quietly. She had sharp features to her face with the exception of her full ruby lips. She was truly enough to bring any male to his knees. “At least no males are allowed to become Seraphates,” Aurora thought to her self.
“Introduce yourselves girls,” the sister said impatiently.
The girl that Aurora was admiring took one step forward and spoke. She had a strange accent. My name is Astrella. “I am from the Realm of Light, in a small…um…village called Sorcentia.” Astrella spoke regally; she had an air of royalty about her. Yet, somehow, she seemed comforting as she spoke. Nurturing somehow. “Anything to add to that Astrella?” the sister asked smiling. “My friends call me Trella, if you please Miss Aragon,” she added quietly. “And my pupils call me Sister Aragon,” she spat, emphasizing the word sister.
The next girl was the same build and height as Trella. A beauty she was though you could easily see that she tried too hard. The girl had shoulder length black hair with a slight wave and frizzieness to it. Her hair had streaks of mud-brown running through it. She had the same glowing emerald green eyes as Trella but hers had the floating flecks of Dark brown. The girls, all three, had the same full pouting ruby lips. “They must be sisters,” Aurora thought. After Trella had stepped back into line the next girl pranced forward and Spoke in a forced sexy whisper. “My name is Aramay, though everyone just calls me May she giggled,” batting her eyelashes with every word. “Just who is she trying to impress,” Aurora sighed to herself. “Everyone knows that we Seraphates are not meant to have carnal relationships” her mind screamed.
The last girl, obviously the most beautiful of all stepped forward shyly. She, again, was the same height and build as the other two with the same lips. She also had black hair, but hers flowed long and straight to the bottom of her rear with just the tiniest tint of blue to it. Her emerald green eyes were large and glowing with faint flecks of blue floating around inside. The blue flecks were the color of the Mystic Sea and glowed faintly as she looked nervously around the room. “My name is Rayel, but you all may call me Ray. I am very happy to have traveled all the way from the Dark Realm to go to the Seraphate Academy. I am new to the Middle Realm and would be glad of any help finding out the way things are done here.” She quietly stepped back into the line at a smile from Sister Aragon. Ray was clearly her favorite of the three.
“Wait just a damn minute,” Aurora’s mind screamed. “They are not sisters? They are from different realms? They look so much alike it’s scary. I was sure they were multiples.” Multiples were rare in the Middle Realm, but Aurora had heard of a mother birthing up to five identical Halo children at one time.
“Thank you girls,” the sister smiled to them. “Class you are free to go to your rooms for the hour until dinner arrives.”
As Aurora was gathering her things to leave one of the younger students leaned down and stared at her with a puzzled look plastered on her face. “Are those girls related to you Rorie?” the girl asked, still puzzled. “Now why would you ask such a question?” Rorie asked. “Well,” the girl answered, “you look exactly like them.” That’s when Rorie realized that the feeling she was having was justified. Those three girls looked so familiar to her. It was because they looked like her. Rorie was the same height and weight as the three. She also shared the ruby lips and black hair. Though her hair was much longer and completely straight. It grew all the way down to the backs of her knees with flame red fringe around the bottom. Rorie lingered in the classroom after all the other girls had gone except the three new girls who were talking adamantly to Sister Aragon at the front of the classroom. She pulled her reflector out of her bag and looked into it. She also shared the same emerald green eyes as the girls. Only hers had flecks of fire-red swimming through them. The other student was right. Rorie looked exactly like the other girls. What the hell was going on!
“RORIE!” the sister spat. Rorie looked up noticing the sister and the three new girls all gazing at her. She had been in her own little dream world, trying to figure out what was happening. “Yes sister, I am sorry”
“It’s fine dear, just fine, I was just wanting to formally introduce you to your new room mates.”
