Taea slammed the door behind her, kicking it forcefully in her rage. She ran her hands through her black curly locks, letting out a ragged sigh.
"Come on T, let me in!" Rand's husky voice bellowed from the other side.
"Fuck you, Rand!" Taea kicked the door again, adrenaline finally slipping from it's hold on her veins. She ped hed her hands against the cool porcelain, leaning on them tiredly. She felt her mind and body begin to burn out, as her high started to dissipatee bae bathroom was cold to her exposed skin, and it felt almost therapeutic. She looked in the mirror, studying her disheveled reflection that she could see even in the darkness. Her dark eye makeup was still intact, accenting her steel grey eyes.
"Taea! Open the fucking door!" Rand hit it, hard enough to jolt the doorframe.
"Yo Rand, watch my door, man." Alex's voice sounded, and Taea let out a deep sigh of relief. "Come on, let me call you a cab."
"Bitch is coming with me!" Rand hit the door again, and Taea moved slightly away from it, resuming her self-examination. The bruise on her cheek was becoming more prominent, and yet she didn't even wince as she poked at it. She was used to the pain.
"Rand, just let her stay in there." Alex tried to reason with the angered teen. "When she comes out, I'll send her home. She won't be with anyone else." There was a pause, and Taea held her breath, staring at the door expectantly.
"Better not." Rand quietly replied, and Taea let a deep whoosh of breath out as she heard their steps lumbering away. She peeled off her long sleeved shirt, revealing once pale skin that was now littered with purple contusions. She could fight, but when Rand was drunk he had the strength of ten, and Taea was powerless against him. She looked down at her stomach, hair cascading down her chest, to witness a bleeding slash across the left side. She wasn't even sure how that had happened. Rand had hit her, but she didn't remember feeling him cut her. She sighed heavily, and grabbed some toilet paper, dabbing the wet blood and leaving the drying to seal the wound.
There was a light knock on the door, and Taea quickly slipped back into her shirt, knowing that Alex had a trick to opening the bathroom door, locked or not. She used her fingers to comb her hair into her face, leaving a small space to look through as she concealed her massive bruises. She curled up on the floor by the toilet, hugging her knees to her chest to stay as far away as possible from her concerned peer.
"Taea?" Alex quietly asked, and she heard the rattle as he clicked the lock open. The door opened a crack, and he peeked in. Seeing Taea vulnerably curled up in the corner, he quickly stepped in, leaving the door wide open.
t dot do you want?" She snapped, voice muffled by her arms. "Go back and enjoy your party." She hadn't meant to sound bitter, as Alex had saved her ass quite a few times in the case of Rand.
"The party's over. I kicked everyone out." Alex softly told her, kneeling down. His eye level was just above her, giving her a little girl feeling. "Why are you sitting in the dark?" He had always wondered why she never turned the lights on, and in his past experiences she had never answered.
"Darkness is secure."

The moonlight flowed in through the window, lighting the area accordingly. Taea avoided his gaze, somewhat embarrassed under his brown orbs. She shrugged slightly, trying to shake off the fact that she actually cared that there was nobody in the house to sneak up on them and see her in this state.
"Why do you always send Rand home?" She chanced asking, accidentally allowing her voice to become small and childlike. She coughed once, to regain her collected stature.
"Are you kidding? That door is really expensive." Alex smiled, although his eyes betrayed him. The concern was evident in his gaze, despite the joke. His expression hardened again when he saw she wasn't interested in his attempt to lighten the mood. "It's fucked up that he treats you the way he does." If you only knew. Taea thought, scoffing.
"Well, it's not your business." She lowered her head completely onto her arms, closing her eyes.
"Like I said, it involves my door." Alex tried again to get her to open up. "Therefore it involves me." He reached a hand out to touch her arm gingerly, and she jerked back. Her head snapped up, and her hair was thrown back off of her face. His expression was incredulous as he spotted the huge dark blotch on her face. She lifted a hand to cover it, and turned that side of her face away from him. There was no point in hiding her face again, although some part of her found it instinct to conceal that part of it. Alex's brow furrowed in more intense concern than before, and clenched his fists. "He hits you." He seethed through clenched teeth, anger boiling inside. "He fucking hits you."
"Just go away, please." Taea pleaded, not wanting Alex involved in her personal business with Rand. "Don't worry about it."
"Don't worry about it?!" He was on his feet in a second, staring down at her with a ferocity she'd never seen in him before. "This asshole fucking beats you up, and you stay with him? What the fuck are you thinking? If you're too stupid not to worry, then I'll do the fucking worrying!" He was enraged, and leaned down, grabbing her shoulders. She still refused to look at him, and he jerked her to her feet. "You got more?" Taea knew he was referring to bruises, but she wouldn't answer him. She couldn't speak, or meet his gaShe She was too ashamed to let him see the futile and weak little girl that she had become. "Fucking answer me!" He yelled, and shook her twice. When there was no response, Alex grabbed her shirt, and tore it from her body.

Taea shrieked as he exposed her black bra, and the plentiful wounds littering her minute midsection. Yet she didn't struggle,t stt stood there, as Alex breathlessly dropped her torn shirt to the bathroom floor. He stared at her, open mouthed, and she simply stood, arms limp by her sides. She was tired of fighting.
"This isn't right." Alex motioned to her midsection, and then raised his eyes to stare into hers. "You have to get help." Taea shook her head, nearly laughing.
"I don't need help." She told him firmly. "I'm used to it"¦ it's not a problem."
"It is a problem, Taea." Alex hooked his finger under her chin and lifted her face, forcing her eyes to look into his. "Every party I have, Rand chases you to the bathroom in a drunken rage, and I send him home. I always come in here, and try to find out what's going on. And now I finally know. He fucking beats you up. A lot, by the way it looks. So why in hell do you stay with him?" His eyes softened, honestly wondering how she could be with someone who hurt her so much. For the first time in her life, Taea felt tears spring to her eyes.

She had never cried before. Not once. And here she was, standing with a guy from school in his bathroom, fighting back t. Sh. She was afraid to open up to him. She was afraid to show any weakness, that had gotten her nowhere in the past. But Alex had been there for her before, he had always driven Rand away from her.
"I have nowhere else to go." Her voice was barely a whisper, but Alex heard her. His brow furrowed in slight confusion, and she sniffled lightly. "My parents split up a year ago, and I lived with my dad for a month before he just took off one day. I had nowhere to go, and I was going out with Rand at the time"¦ so I moved in with him." She shrugged, blinking rapidly to keep the tears from creeping out. "If I leave him"¦ I'll have nobody." She turned her head, and his hand dropped, letting her hide her face as the tears flowed freely. Alex, not knowing what to do, did what any normal person would do. He wrapped his arms tightly around her. And for once, Taea didn't push him away.

She leaned into him, burying her violated face into his sweater, sobbing harshly. Her entire body shook with earth shattering cries that Alex absorbed soothingly. He leaned his head down onto the top of hers, holding her taut but gently at the same time. She had never felt such affection and comfort in all her life, and began to relax as her eyes waterfalled into Alex's chest. It seemed as if her problems were flowing from her body.
ea"¦ ea"¦ if you have nowhere to go"¦" Alex began quietly. "You can stay here."

Her eyes snapped open quickly, and she pulled back. Still clutching his sweater, she looked up at him, her black eye makeup streaking down her face in rivulets of salty liquid. She wanted to smile, to throw her arms around him, to thank him for everything, and never Ran Rand again. But she knew it wouldn't be fair. Alex had a wonderful life, and so much going for him in September. They had just graduated, and he had ambitions. She couldn't impose on him, and get in the way of his dreams.
"I"¦ I couldn't, Alex." Taea blinked slowly, releasing her hold and turning away from him. There was a moment of silence, and then she glanced over to see him start running water in the sink. He dipped a towel under the tap, and got down on his knees in front of her. She was silent as he started to dab at her gash with the towel, cleaning off the blood crusted on her white and purple skin.
"Sure you could." He bit his lip, taking extra care not to hurt her, even though she knew that she could handle whatever he did. "You could recuperate, get better, and then start your own life. Without your parents, and Rand."
"But what about you?" Taea clenched her jaw, wiping her soaked cheeks with her hands absently. "You have so much to look forward to"¦ so much to do, and I don't want to stop. I'. I'll just get in the way."

Hello, hello, hello, how low?
Hello, hello, hello, how low?
Hello, hello, hello, how low?
Hello, hello, hello...

"No, you wouldn't, Taea." Alex shook his head, the words coming out easily. "I'll take care of you." She stared at him in wonder for a few moments, and then he finally set down the towel, mustering up the courage to touch her. He put his hands on her hips, and gingerly brushed his lips against her stomach. It was as if he was trying to kiss her hurt away. This time, Taea did push him away. She backed up to the wall, pressing herself against it harshly.
"Don't even think it." She warned, squeezing her eyes shut against Alex's stare.
"Don't think what?" He slowly stood up, licking his lips nervously. "What are you afraid of?" His eyes burned into her so intensely that she had to open her own, and they gawped at each other for what seemed like hours. Their gazes were like fire to one another, and eventually Taea's tears replenished and started to silently slide down her cheeks again.
"Stop looking at me like that." She whispered.
"Why?" Alex clenched his jaw.
"Because I can't breathe."

"Taea"¦" Alex took a step towards her, and she put out her arm, stopping him dead in his tracks.
"You want to know what I'm afraid of?" She narrowed her eyes, crossing her arms across her chest. "I'm afraid of weakness. I'm afraid that because I've started to cry I'll never stop. I'm afraid of opening up to someone that I could potentially lose myself in"¦" She trailed off, her hands rising to her forehead in frustration. Alex tried with all of his power to restrain himself from grabbing her and holding her until she was no longer afraid. Until she no longer had to lurk in the dark, not wanting people to look at her.
"You're not weak." He tried, eyes sincere as ever. "And it's okay to cry." He paused, not knowing how to try and reassure her on her last statement. "And"¦"
"What?!" She cried, hugging her arms as she realized that shs acs actually cold.
"I won't let you lose yourself." Alex wrung his hands. "Because I'll always be there ind ind you."

Taea reeled back, and punched Alex square in the face. He felt his nose buckle, and begin to bleed, the warm liquid leaking down the front of him.
"Don't lie to me, Alex!" She held the back of his neck, assaulting him with various punches to the stomach. He tried to force her off of him, but she wouldn't let up, and he wouldn't lay a harming finger on her. "They all fucking lie. Rand lies, all the time. He fucks me, and I think things are going to get better, and then he beats the shit out of me, and I realize things are still the same. My life is shit, and I don't need little do gooders like yourself to try and fix my problems. There's nothing you can do for me, Alex, NOTHING!" With that, she shoved him hard against the floor, and his head ricocheted off of the cupboard with a sickening sma

Taea sat down on the floor by the toilet, where she had been in the first place, and curled up her legs so that her chin rested on her knees. Burying her face in her arms, she sat, void of emotion. Alex was dazed for a moment, wavering, and then staggered to his feet, staring at her through sweat and blood. He had feelings for the troubled girl, more than he could ever know. But she would never have him. She had little trust in anything, especially herself. Alex figured maybe one day, after sending Rand home, he could try again. Try to make her see that his heart was true to her, and that he really cared. That he could give her everything she wanted and needed out of life. But for now, it was all he could do to take her violence and wish the best for her until next time.
