Omelette
Breakfast was being made as I wrote this. Fairly certain it's noticable. Might be the only update today, but might also be an update tomorrow morning. As I'm heading back to work *sigh* Read, Review and EnjoyPaw did not like being kicked out of bed. He certainly did not like when Mik followed him and kicked him out of the nest. The Sidhe had given up and went to sleep on the couch. Mik didn’t sleep very well, was plagued by nightmares, so by the time Souse woke him up, he was more than eager to get out of bed, despite the fact that it was four thirty in the morning. While Mik showered, Souse made coffee. A cup was sitting, waiting for him when he walked into the kitchen. Mik gleefully downed most of it in one gulp then poured himself a fresh cup. Souse watched him add sugar and milk how he liked. “Thirsty?” Souse murmured, holding a mug of his own in both hands.“Coffee is a stimulant, wakes you up. What are you drinking?” none of the Sidhe had tried coffee and frankly the partners were afraid that it would have the same affect on them as it did people. Think. Super charged rabbit. “Tea. It has been prescribed to me as an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic.”“I didn’t get that.”“You did three days after your incident. There wasn’t anything in pain in that for the last two months or so. Or… whatever,” Souse shrugged, taking a sip of the tea.“Why do you need that?”“Violet stabbed me in the back.”“Literally?”“Yeup. But I’ve had words with her and she’s. Ehm. Been forgiven for stabbing her leader,” Souse muttered, “the stitch job, not so much.”“Violet is a healer now?”“No. Essuan went all funny coloured at the blood. So Violet offered to stitch it up. Angry women and needles. Not such a good idea.”“I’d say. What are we making?”“Omelettes. Easy way to get vegetables into people and we’ve found they are quite tasty. While you were showering, I pulled out the veggies and cut them.”Mik glanced at the wide variety of veggies, all neatly piled and expertly chopped, on his cutting board. A package of pre-grated cheese sat beside that. “No meat?” Mik muttered, “I like meat in my omelette. Like ham. Ham is so good, with the cheese melted over it and then the mushrooms on top.”“More mushrooms, less meat,” Souse muttered, picking up a mushroom, “these are nature’s meat sacks. Protein and all kinds of good stuff in there for you. Like nuts, except easier to find and easier to use. Just pick and chew. Rather than Pick, bake, peel out of casing and then chew. All the goodness, none of the work and none of the fats, antibiotics, hormones and steroids that go into your animals.”“Are you telling me I’ve just become a vegetarian?”“No. There’s organic chicken and veal in the fridge. You can eat that. Also. Almond butter. You people invent foods and then don’t take advantage of them. Almond butter is like the sweetest candy to Sidhe. What is in it?”“Almonds?”“Almond. You use that tiny little nut to make Almond butter? Can we get some of those?”Mik shrugged, “Possibly. We’re a bit side tracked. Unless you’re really going to put almond butter in the omelette.”“Lillow needs more protein, set a good example. Try bribing her with the almond butter.”Taln shuffled past the kitchen, yawning and rubbing his eyes, limping just slightly on his way to the bathroom. Mik and Souse watched Taln go before Mik cleared his throat and looked at Souse.“Do I feed him properly as well?”“Taln is a vegetarian. He does eat properly. Now. Eggs. Get them.”Mik set his coffee on the counter and grabbed the carton of egg whites from the fridge. He handed it to Souse and the Sidhe glared at the thing like it had just insulted him. Souse set the carton on the counter behind himself and folded his arms.“Are you even aware of the natural form of eggs?”“Uhm. They aren’t some kind of processed… thing … that we make and put in a carton?”“Eggs should never pour out of their home. Milk pours out of its container, because it’s naturally a liquid! Taln, hullo, good morning, how was your sleep?”“Fine. Coffee?”“There. Will you eat eggs?”“I’m a fake vegetarian. So yes.”“Fake…” Mik frowned at Taln.“Fake as in. I’ll eat animal products but not the meat. Have a bit of an issue with a family history of death via clogged arteries. Trying to get ahead of that one.”“Will you, I suppose the question is,” Souse muttered, glaring at Mik, “eat egg yolks?”“Cooked how?”“Non-stick frying pan, some of that cheese Lillow says you like in omelette form. With mushrooms.” Souse responded.“Yes. Why are you glaring at him?” Taln asked. Souse reached behind him and grabbed the carton of egg whites, giving it a shake in Mik’s direction. Taln made an understanding sound and went to the fridge, digging past veggies to the back of the fridge. He pulled out a strange container and traded Souse the carton of egg whites for the oddly shaped thing. The Sidhe opened the thing and showed Mik the brown things inside, “Eggs. I swear. You wouldn’t know a chicken if it pecked your eyes out.”“…” Mik chose not to answer that one and retrieved his coffee instead, “So. How do we cook omelettes?”Souse pulled out a bowl and began carefully explaining each step to Mik as he made up Taln’s breakfast. Mik popped down some toast, buttered it, popped down some more. By the time the first omelette slid out of the pan, Lillow was up and in the bathroom. Taln took the omelette and a few pieces of toast and sat at the table, gobbling it all down. Obviously Souse made good omelettes. Souse left the kitchen, saying that he had to check on Lillow and Mik slid into the seat across from Taln.“So… about last night.”“Consensual. Sort of,” Taln said in between bites.“Sort of?”“He asked if I was interested in someone and I said that I wasn’t certain that I could trust someone yet and he said that they wouldn’t let anyone near me who wasn’t going to pleasure me and I said that one person calls pleasure is not pleasurable to another person and he said he’d show me the kind of pleasure he meant,” Taln shrugged, “kind of like showing a Sidhe why he shouldn’t blow a popsicle when guests are around…”Mik nearly choked on the coffee he had in his mouth as Taln finished, the man managed to swallow and gasp out a, “So. You don’t like Hohi?”Taln finished off the last of his omelette, seemingly intent on chewing really, really fast, “No. Not my type.”“Then. What’s your type.”The younger man swallowed, looked at Mik, then looked down at his lap and wiped his mouth on the napkin Souse had provided for him, “I have to go.”Taln left the kitchen in a hurry, just as Lillow and Souse came in. Lillow looked about, dazed, and flopped down in Taln’s seat. “Wassis?” She picked up Taln’s half finished coffee and gave it a sniff.“Coffee,” Souse murmured in response, “don’t drink it.”Paw shuffled past the kitchen, hair all messed up, bent slightly and looking weary. Souse watched the Sidhe go, glanced at his computer and then cleared his throat. “Paw probably wants those fried potato things he likes. Mik. Do you have a cast iron frying pan?”“Uhm…”“Heavy, rough metal.”“Oh, yeah, under the stove.”Souse pulled out the pan, hefted it in his hand as if testing the weight and then set it on the stove. He then went about making an omelette for Lillow. Mik frowned into his coffee mug, an random thought nagging at him, tugging his mind but not quite making sense.“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Paw eat potato,” Mik muttered as Paw walked into the kitchen.“Ah, Paw, nice of you to join us.”Paw grunted and sat beside Lillow, “breakfast?”“Mm, in just a minute.”Souse crossed from the stove to the personal computer, frying pan in hand. Paw let out a sound as Souse came up to it, raised the pan and brought it down. Hard. Mik winced at the crack and wondered just how expensive that thing was.The larger male slammed the cast iron frying pan into the personal computer until bits went flying. Then he dropped the pan onto the remains and walked back to the stove.“You. You can’t just-” Paw started.“I just did,” Souse murmured in response, sliding Lillow’s omelette onto a plate and delivering it to the girl. “That’s expensive!”“I have made up my mind and made it quite obvious as to my thought on the matter. You will abide by it.”“Because I have no choice!”“Exactly,” Souse growled as Paw stood up to leave, “sit. Down. We are all eating breakfast together, whether you like it or not.”Paw met Souse’s eyes and glared. Souse met Paw’s look with calm, seemingly completely oblivious to the fact that Paw obviously wanted to tear his throat out. Paw’s jaw clenched, fists curled tight in anger. The smaller male looked away first and lowered himself into his chair. “Can I have another omelette?” Lillow asked, holding up her empty plate, “with more mushrooms please?”.
