War

I'm back. Not certain how much updating I'll be doing over the next couple of days... I've rediscovered an old game that I luffles.

*coughs*

BTW, in case it may have come up. The Valeasans are the northern country. The people who died were not partners, not at all. Mari hasn't tried to seperate any of the partners, she's provided more entertainment and has added plants of both the plastic and regular kind in the hallways.

She's also just provided a cover for someone by keeping Mik for several hours longer. But you'll read about that in the next one.

Read, Review and Enjoy.

“Forty-eight deaths amongst Valeasan politicians,” Mik handed out files to everyone as Koln spoke, before taking his own seat, “Caused, the Valeasans claim, by Sidhe hand. Throats torn out, powernet down, drones down, security, down. No fibres, no forced entry. Claw did this, in one victim a nail broke off. All were politicians of the opposing government.”

Mik flipped open the file and frowned at the name, “Uhm… Our good friend, the crazy Visuit is involved in this?”

“Visuit took the parliamentary seat three weeks ago, thanks to our work,” Koln growled, “Now. He and his are about to announce a declaration of war.”

“On… us?” Taln asked.

“On Sidhe,” Koln muttered, turning the page of his file, “The Valeasans will announce in about three hours, their intent to go to war with the Sidhe nation.”

The room was silent. Mik looked back down at his file and then up at Mari, who sat off to the side and watched, who let Koln run the meeting.

“What does our leader say about this?” Mik asked, making eye contact with Mari.

Mari looked over the room, back to her carefully clasped hands and finally at Mik, “I allow Koln to run this meeting because he knows more of this Visuit than I. I know of the man, yes, but I was unaware, until Koln mentioned to me this morning, that the man had anything to do with this program.”

“But what do you think?”

“The bastard played us,” Mari snarled, “and if I ever get my hands on him I’ll tear his insides out.”

“Mm,” Mik looked down at the file and read the first page, “Visuit, when speaking to me, mentioned some way of controlling Sidhe via a drug. One that he claimed Souse had been … affected by. Souse isn’t the one Visuit thought he was, however, but… the whole conversation was odd.”

Mari’s eyes narrowed as she looked over Mik, “Are you suggesting that Visuit would use this drug for his own purposes? That he was capable of manipulating the Sidhe into killing his rivals for him?”

“It is a possibility.”

“Only to use them as a scapegoat, to unite his country against an inside threat,” Koln muttered, “doesn’t take an Illuen to know that’s a good move on his part, a dirty move, but a good move politically.”

“By destroying another species, he unites his people,” Mari murmured, “he will pay for a peaceful nation with the blood of millions. History tells us that fighting with the Sidhe will always lead to disaster. Man made weapons or not, if they were capable of pulling down a power net, the Sidhe could destroy us city by city, nation by nation. Without power we are as infants.”

Someone to the far left raised his hand, Mari look at the man and gave a nod, giving him permission to ask.

“Am I the only one thinking that we should make it known how to pull down a Valeasan powernet?” the partner asked.

Others around the room shifted nervously. One of the women raised her hands and Mari gave her permission to speak.

“Send Mik. They listen to him. He can talk to Paw and Paw can get word to others.”

“How?” Mari asked, “the Sidhe are cut off from each other. Paw is here, they are hundreds of miles north.”

“Give him a computer,” Koln chimed in, “that Sidhe can do anything with a computer. Far as we know the Sidhe don’t have a written language, but he’d find a way.”

Mari gave a nod, “That is what we shall do, then. However. We will be providing the computer for Paw to… play with. He is not permitted to use any other piece of technology to accomplish this.”

“He’ll use what he wants,” Mik responded.

“For the mean time, we will all be taking turns monitoring the news casts from Valease for any pertinent information, as well as monitoring all of their radio stations and news waves. Taln, Mort, Lilt, you will take the first shift at six am. We, the administration, will monitor it until then. Go home, get some sleep.”

Those named nodded and left the room.

Koln cleared his throat after they left and listed off the other groups. As he listed them, the partners left to rest for the next day, to explain to the Sidhe what was going on. Mik was the last one in the room, his name having not been called.

Mari stood from her seat and moved to sit beside Koln, “We’ll have the computer ready in four hours, we’d prefer it if you waited here for it to be finished, rather than have it go into multiple hands before coming to you. While we wait, I want you and Koln to brief me on everything Visuit has done.”

“I basically have reported… and… who’s monitoring the television if you aren’t?”

“Galt is, he can sit on his hands and learn to behave,” Mari muttered in an irritated tone, “And I want you to tell me everything you know, everything you remember about Visuit.”

“Oh.” Koln looked at Mari and looked absolutely amused, “Is. Visuit a Blood bible follower?”

Mari gave Koln a look that should have flayed flesh from the man’s bones, “His mother was disowned from the Illuen some thirty years ago. She took her offspring with her. He is technically Illuen, name change or not. Obviously his mother taught him all the tricks. This must be dealt with before damage can be done.”

“More damage, you mean,” Mik muttered, “the north likes to use projectile weapons. Most especially their new big toy, the nuclear missile.”

Mari pulled out a cell phone and dialled a number. She had a short conversation with someone in another language, then clicked the phone shut, “The computer will take an hour.”

Koln scratched the back of his neck and gave Mik a look that told him to shut up before HE did something damaging.

Mik blinked at Koln and looked at Mari. Had he just… predicted something that the Illuens had over looked? Probably not good…
