Out of Love Part I

Davis stayed quiet as he listened into the furries conversation. He knew that something was wrong and he needed to see what it was, and tell Andrin right away. Canon did most of the talking, thinking over some ways to brake up him and Andrin. A few times Davis got mad and wanted to bust in there and tell them off, but he kept his cool and listened more.

“So,” Canon said in the middle of the conversation. “We all know that King Andrin has taken a male boy mortal for a mate, something we all know that is both treason and a crime against nature. We can not have a mortal sit upon the throne and rule us. Not even if they decided to conceive, I wouldn’t want a Halfling taking over the kingdom once Andrin is dead.

“How could they conceive a child?” Jaxon asked, “Unless they ask a female to carry their cub.”

“You don’t understand.” Sinan replied. “I have heard that Andrin has asked his alchemists to create a way for males to give birth.” Davis’s eyes went wide and he almost blown his cover, but he covered his mouth before he gasped out.

“Yes, and that is one thing I will not have.” Canon said, “I have already shut down that project today. Luckily, Andrin has not found out about that yet.”

“Are you still trying to disable the project for us to work with skinwalkers and mortals?”

“You know I am always trying to do that. I tell you, we need to de-throne Andrin. After his brother died our kind has been going down hill.”

“I bet,” Jaxon chimed in, “That by the end of this year, we will ALL be extinct.”

“I believe your are right.” Sinan replied. “And if Andrin keeps this stupid mortal at his side, we will all be gone before the end is year.”

“You don’t you think we can get rid of the mortal?” Jaxon asked.

“We could…and we will.”

“But how?”

“By the same way we killed Ante.” Canon laughed.

Davis gasped as he saw Canon pull out a small vile from his pants. He gasped again as he saw all three of the furries turned towards the door, and he ran out of there before they could catch him. Davis didn’t know what to do; he was scared for both himself and for Andrin. He knew that that if he stayed here things will only get worse and he didn’t want that to happen. Entering the throne room, he stared around the large room one more time and sighed. He needed to leave for their safety, so without saying good-bye to Andrin he headed out into the night air and back to the village.

“Davis.” Kadin yawned, wiping sleepers from his eyes as he answered his door. “What are you doing here? It’s like what…three in the morning?” Kadin and his family lived in a small cottage that laid between the willow tree and the village he lived in, so Davis decided to stop by and say good-bye.

“Sorry to wake you so late at night.” Davis softly said so he wouldn’t wake his wife or kids. “But I need you to tell Andrin something for me.”

“What is it?” he asked, he was worried that something wrong was going on and he didn’t like where this was going.

“Could you tell Andrin that I love him for me please, and not to come and look for me.”

“What? Davis, what is wrong? Davis!” he called after him as he left, and ran to catch up to him. “Davis wait! What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. I just need some time alone to myself.” he replied. “So please, don’t worry about me.” he smiled and he turned away from the lion and headed back to his home.

Davis didn’t get back to the village till six in the morning. He took the long way back so he could clear his head. He wanted to go back and confront Andrin about his men, but he knew that they would all deny any accounts of treason, and would accuse him of treason. He sighed as walked into his grandfather’s home; he didn’t want to deal with him so early in the morning and just went to his room.

“You’re back.” he heard his grandfather’s voice from behind his chair. Davis stopped in the middle of the room and turned to face his grandpa, who stood up and turned to face Davis. “I knew you would be back.” he smirked.

“Please don’t rub it in.” Davis sighed. “I am tired and don’t want to talk about it.”

“Fine, but what made you come back?” he asked.

“I came back on my own free will.” Davis said, turning the knob to his room and went in.

Davis groaned as he fell onto his bed, which was now put back together while he was gone. Turning over, he sighed and rested his arm against his forehead. Staring up at his ceiling, he wondered what Andrin was doing right now. For all that he knew, Andrin was still sleeping soundly in his bed. He let out a small chuckle as he imagine Andrin waking up and then running over to Kadin to ask where he was. But he knew that if he stayed out of the court for a few months, everything will die down and he would return to Andrin. He just hoped that Andrin wouldn’t get mad at him for what he had done. He yawed as he thought about Andrin and crawled under the covers and fell asleep fast.

Both Jeff and his daughter thought it would be best for Davis to be locked in his room for the time being. Mary even hired a handyman to board her son’s window so that he wouldn’t sneak out at night and back to Andrin. Davis didn’t mind his mom’s or grandfather’s over protection. In fact, he thought it was for the best. He knew that Andrin would be looking for him, but what Andrin said about never to return to the village, he was getting second thoughts. It had been six weeks since he had returned back to his home, and he things had gone from good to bad. Three days after that he had returned, he had received at least ten carrying messages from Andrin, asking where he was. Davis replied to at least half of his letters, but he didn’t want him to worry or know where he was.

“I am fine.” he said in most of his messages. Or “Don’t worry, I will come back. I just need some time to myself.”

He only sent that letter once because of Andrin’s reply to his letter. “Why do you need some time alone?” Davis read his reply. “Has everything been overwhelming for you? The gardening, the planning, me?” Davis wanted to reply by what he overheard the night he left, but he just didn’t and didn’t reply. He didn’t get any more letters from Andrin; he did however, received letters from Kadin. In the letters Kadin told Davis about Andrin’s reaction in detail. It seemed that Andrin was not happy about him leaving, and shut himself up in his room for two weeks. He felt bad now for Andrin, and he thought how Andrin was really depress now.

“Why don’t you want to tell him?” Kadin wrote in one of his letters. “You know things are just going to get worse. However, He is now out of his room, but he is not attending to his royal duties. Please come back, I don’t know how much more Andrin or his court can handle.”

“I am sorry, Kadin.” Davis replied back to his letter. “But I will return in a few short weeks. Please tell Andrin to not worry, and that I left for our protection.”

Kadin replied only once after Davis sent the message, telling him that he understood and telling Davis that Andrin was trying to cope with him being gone and asking why. Davis didn’t want to reply to why he left for his protection, he was too scared that Andrin wouldn’t believe him or that Conan and the others would come after him themselves. He just replied to Kadin's letter that he did it out of love.

Two weeks after Kadin and Davis swapped letters, Kadin sent another letter. But this time it was a state on emergency. “Andrin has gone missing.” Davis read. His mouth dropped and he re-read the latter over and over again, hoping that this was not true. He turned the latter over to see if Kadin written anything else on the back, but there was nothing else. Davis quickly replied to Kadin’s letter telling him he was going to help with the search to find the Furry King. After he sent the letter, he waited impatiently for Kadin’s reply. By the next day, the carrying pigeon returned with Kadin’s reply he was on pins and needles. Davis ripped opened the letter once he received it and danced his eyes across the words to see what Kadin’s reply was. “Great, we need all the help we can get.” was Kadin’s reply. “We have already the guard searching for him. Please meet me tomorrow outside the village gates.”

Davis couldn’t help to think that Andrin going missing was his fault. If he didn’t run away from him, he wouldn’t have gone missing. But he knew that Andrin must have gone out and searched for me, that was the only way that he could have gone.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Mary asked her son.

“Just out for a walk.” Davis replied, his bag slung over his shoulder. “I will be home before dark.”

“I will go with you.” his grandfather said, getting out of his chair. Davis sighed in frustration as he watched him get his cane. “I need my exercise anyways.” he smiled at him and headed over towards the door. “Could you get the door for me, Davis?" He asked. Davis sighed again and headed towards the door, opening it for him and headed out after him. “You know, you don’t fool me.” he said to Davis once they were down the hill that his house was on. “I know you are going back to see that demon.”

“You’re wrong.” Davis spat. “I am not going to see Andrin. I told you, I came back on my own free well. Besides, you were right, Andrin cannot be trusted.”

Jeff laughed and chocked on the air that he sucked in. “I told you. So what did he do to ya?” he asked.

“He did the same thing to you. He played with my heart till he tossed my away, and then I over heard that they were going to poison me. So I ran.”

“God boy, I am glad you came back before things gotten out of hand.”

Davis gave his grandfather a false smile, rolling his eyes afterwords and dropped the smile. He had to think of some way to get rid of Jeff, but he just didn’t know how.

“Davis?” both Davis and Jeff heard someone shout out Davis’s name. Davis smiled and let go of his grandfather, causing him to loose his balance a bit.

“Over here!” Davis called back. It didn’t take long till the guy who was calling his name was reveled and Jeffery got scared as he saw a large lion coming over the hill.

“What the-” Jeff gasped out. He staggered backwards and fell over a fallen tree branch, causing him to hit the forest floor hard.

“Davis.” the lion cried out, and leapt over towards the two men. “Who’s this? Kadin asked, looking at Jeff who looked like he was about to pee himself.

“My grandfather, Jeffery Edwards.” Davis replied, walking over next to Kadin and standing next to him.

“So this is Jeffery.” Kadin said sternly. Davis nodded and gave a sideways glance towards him. Kadin smirked at Davis, and turned his attention towards the old man on the ground. Planting all fours on the ground, he lowered his head and gave out the largest roar that Davis had ever heard.

Jeffery yelled as the lion roared, knocking him backwards and hitting his head on a rock behind him. Davis got worried that he had died, but Kadin reassured him that he was only knocked out for the time being. Davis nodded and left Jeffery to sleep off the terror he just encountered with his friend. “Now then.” Kadin said once they were far enough away from where they left Davis’s grandfather. “I have sent out half the guard to search for Andrin, I want you to cover the west side of the forest and I will look in the east. We will meet up at the Willow tree at sunset. Got it?”

“Got it.” Davis confirmed and he ran off in the opposite direction that Kadin was going. He began to call out Andrin’s name, waited thirty seconds and then called out again. Each time that he called out the Furry King’s name he would get no reply. Davis began to worry as the sun was about ready to set, and he would have to meet back up with Kadin. But he didn’t want to abandon the search, and continued to search well into the night.

“ANDRIN!” Davis called out. It was now snowing and there was a hard wind blowing, so he had to yell well above the howling wind. “ANDRIN!” he yelled again, his voice was starting to get horsed. He had been yelling out his lover’s name all night, and he was now starting to lose his voice.

He grunted as he hit the snow covered ground, resting for a bit before he started up again. He didn’t know what time it was, but he thought that it was nearing midnight. After a few minutes of resting, Davis got back up again. He took one step into from his resting place and called out for Andrin again. But his calls for Andrin soon become a yell for help as he fell right off a small cliff. Davis grunted and yelled as he rolled down the hill, cutting and scrapping himself over rocks and sticks that came in contact with his skin. He let out a loud scream once he hit the bottom, landing on a large rock that was covering the snow. The impact of the fall was so intense for him, that he became unconscious from the pain that surged through his body from the impact and the large open cuts that was now dropping his temperature.

“Kadin…stop it.” Davis moaned. He had been knocked out for hours and he was now waking up from something wet on his face. “Kadin.” Davis groaned, thinking that Kadin had found him and was trying to wake up by licking his face.

Davis moaned as he slowly opened his eyes, and saw that he was in some sort of small cave. A small fire was going in front of him with a small rabbit roasting over it. Sitting up, he hissed in pain and clenched his right arm and saw it was in a sling.

“Careful.” he heard someone saw in the darkness. “You sprang your arm, so you shouldn’t move that much till its better.”

“Andrin?” Davis groaned, lying back down. “Is that you?” he asked, looking towards the direction where the voice came from. Davis gave a little smile as he saw the tall black wolf that he had come to know and love step out of the shadows and scowled down at him.

“Hello Davis.” Andrin said in a cold hard voice.

“Hi.” Davis replied, looking down at the fire. He felt kind of awkward about seeing the wolf again, and he didn’t know what to say. They sat in an eerie silence as they stared around the room, but after what Davis thought to be a good enough time he took a deep breath and looked up at the wolf. “You know, Kadin is looking for you.”

“That’s nice.” Andrin sighed, going over to the fire and turning the rabbit over.

“Why did you run away?” Davis asked.

“Why did I runaway? Why don’t you tell me why you did?” Andrin spat. “You left me without any reason of telling me why.”

“Andrin.” Davis gasped, sitting up. “I’m sorry. I got scared.”

“Scared of what?” Andrin barked, his eyes narrowing and Davis thought he was going to bite his head off.

“Scared of getting killed.” Davis snapped back.

“What? Why would you think…?”

“I over heard Canon talking!” Davis quickly said, causing Andrin’s face to relax and get all silent.

“What did you say?” Andrin asked. He couldn’t understand what Davis was saying, so he sat down and Davis took a deep breath in and clamed down.

“On the night I ran away,” Davis said slower this time. “I over heard Canon, Sinan, and Jaxon talking about how they were going to get rid of me. They said that you have committed treason against the whole kingdom, and they said that they were going to kill me.”

“Davis, why didn’t you come to me? You know something like that needs to be reported to me.”

“I know.” Davis said, tears started to swell in his eyes and rested his head against Andrin’s shoulder.
Andrin sighed and wrapped an arm around Davis and kissed his head. “It’s going to be all right.” he told him, resting his head against Davis. “I will see too it that nothing will come of harm to you. Canon and everyone else involved will be seen to hanging.”

“Please don’t kill anyone.” Davis replied, shaking his head. “I don’t want anyone to get killed, even though they wanted to kill me.”

“But that’s the thing, surely that is the saw law that King Edward has set. Everyone who is found of treason against the royal, they will be executed.”

“I know, but I am not that kind of person. I don’t want anyone to die because of me.”

“ I understand.” Andrin smiled. “I will just exile them, or put them in the dungeon till the end of time.”

“Thank you.” Davis sighed, yawning as he laid his head back down on Andrin’s shoulder. “Andrin?” Davis asked, changing the subject.

“Yes, Davis?” Andrin replied, replacing his head over Davis’s and lying down with him.

“You told me you had a brother.”

“Yeah, I did.”

“What was his name?”

Andrin yawned, “Ante.” he replied, and Davis’s eyes shot wide open. “What about him?”

“Nothing,” Davis replied. He was too scared that Andrin would get mad about how his brother was murdered, that he just didn’t want anything to happen and just left it alone---for now.

“Davis?” Andrin asked, again changing the topic.

“Mmm…?” Davis moaned, he was too tired that he didn’t really want answer with words.

“I love you.”

Davis smiled. “I love you too.” and he laid his head down in his lap and fell asleep. Andrin smiled down at Davis and slowly stroked his hair for a while, allowing himself to fall asleep against the rock and forgetting about the rabbit over the fire that slowly started to burn.
