Chapter 9
Brad glanced at his watch as he stepped out of his car. He made it, but just barely.
Glancing at the entrance, people from all walks of life were entering and exiting the grand casino.
Brad had tried his luck here several times but ended up like most of the people leaving this place: broke. As he entered the casino, a man in dark glasses and a black suit greeted him.
“Mr. Pitt. Come with me,” the man said as he walked toward the back area of the casino.
Brad stared after the man, his eyes adjusting to the lights that were flashing in his eyes. He hurried to catch up with the man. It bothered Brad that the guy didn’t even bother to glance back to see if he was falling behind.
“Where are you taking me?”
The man just continued walking, weaving around people as if he hadn’t heard Brad’s question.
Brad gave up and just decided to follow him. It was obvious he worked for Mr. Diesel.
As they entered the back area of the casino, a guard was standing by a velvet rope, which sectioned off the casino’s VIP rooms.
“Mr. Diesel is waiting for you,” the guard said as he grabbed the rope and held it open.
As Brad passed by the guard holding the rope, he noticed the entire back wall was sheathed in mirrors.
Right in the center of the wall of mirrors stood two guards. Brad noticed both were wearing earpieces and carrying guns.
As they approached the armed guards, one of the guards held up a hand. “Stop.”
Both men stopped as the guards stepped forward.
“Colin, has he been searched?” the guard on the left asked as he started walking around Brad.
“No, I thought I leave it for you, Karl. I know how much you like full body searches.” Colin smirked.
Karl sneered at Colin words. “I do,” Karl said as he circled Brad for a third time. “But he’s really not my type.”
Brad’s eyes turned cold at what these guys were saying. He had a distinct feeling he was being looked at like a piece of meat, especially by this Karl guy who was circling him like a vulture.
He was starting to wonder if everyone working for Mr. Diesel was either gay or at least bisexual. Which he had no problem with, as long they kept their hands to themselves.
“So you’re the one that’s going to take Heath’s place?” Karl asked, his eyes traveling up and down Brad’s body.
Brad’s eyes turned even colder as he stared at Karl.
“You’re very talkative,” Karl said, finding Brad’s silence amusing.
“You must be the straight guy,” Jude snickered.
“Fresh meat,” Karl said, baring his white teeth.
“Spread out your arms and legs,” Colin interrupted, tapping Brad’s shoulders.
“I’m not packing,” Brad explained, his tone flat as he stared dead into Karl’s eyes.
“Nobody sees Mr. Diesel without a search,” Jude said, his eyes glued to the muscular man that stood rigid before him.
“Then you search me,” Brad said turning to Colin. “You seem less likely to enjoy it.” Brad turned, staring back at Karl.
Holding out his arms and spreading out his legs, Brad let Colin search him.
Colin’s hand started from the shoulder, then worked his way down to a very muscular chest. Colin lifted an eyebrow as he moved lower, feeling abs rolling underneath his fingers. Colin was getting hard and he hadn’t even seen the man body.
Squatting down, Colin ran his fingers over very muscular thighs and shapely calves. He would love to see this guy naked and he wasn’t really into men, even though he’s been with a couple before.
Colin noticed how rigid Brad’s body was. He wanted to respect the guy since he’d be part of the family.
Standing back up, Colin faced Karl. “He’s clean, no wires or guns.”
“I guess it’s time to meet your future boss. Right this way, Mr. Pitt,” Karl sneered as he lifted his arm to the mirror door.

Vin was in a middle of a game when his soon to be employee showed up. Vin found it amusing how Karl’s feathers seemed to ruffle when Brad showed up.
Sean got up from the table and walked over to the mirror. His eyes staring intently at Brad as Colin did a full body search. He frowned. He was hoping this guy wouldn’t show up but with the money Vin was offering, he knew he couldn’t get that lucky.
Vin’s eyes shifted to Sean, watching him staring out the one-way mirror. He smirked as he watched Sean’s face. It was fun watching Sean as he tries to hide his feelings behind the cold expressions he wore everyday. This little tiff Sean had with this guy Brad would be interesting to watch in the days to come.
The door opened before Colin and Brad walked in. Several guys that were sitting at the poker table stood up and exited the room without question.
Brad glanced around the VIP room, noticing a very large muscular guy sitting at the poker table. Sensing movement to his right, Brad turned and saw Sean. It seemed like the man was in his own little world as he stared out the mirror.
“You must Mr. Pitt,” Vin said standing up.
“Yes and you must be Mr. Diesel?” Brad said as he shook Vin hand.
The man was humongous, Brad thought to himself as he stared at Vin. The photos he’d seen of Mr. Diesel didn’t do the man justice. He wasn’t a little man by far but Vin was a good foot taller and had a good sixty pounds on him.
“Sit down, Mr. Pitt.” Vin said, waving at the vacant seats around the table.
“You can call me Brad,” Brad said as he sat opposite of Mr. Diesel.
“Okay, Brad, let’s get down to business. I don’t have all day,” Vin explained, his eyes pinning Brad with a furious intensity.
“Shoot,” Brad said, staring back.
Vin raised one eyebrow. “I’ve decided to hire you which you’ve already guessed,” Vin said as he shuffled the cards that were lying in front of him.
Brad nodded his head in acknowledgement of Vin’s words. He wanted to scream out his happiness. This is the big break he was waiting for. The next words drew his screaming happiness to a screeching halt.
“I’m hiring you to be a body guard,” Vin’s voice was flat.
“Bodyguard?” Brad’s mouth formed the words as his mind was rejecting the idea.
“Yes, to my boyfriend.”
“I thought…” Brad stopped as he saw Vin’s eyes narrow.
“You thought what, Brad?”
Sean turned at the conversation that was taking place. Was this guy Brad an idiot? Hope blossomed at the thought of Brad turning down this job.
“If you’re not interested in the job, I believe I can find someone else easy enough.” Vin shifted in his chair, his eyes trying to read what Brad was thinking. Maybe he was mistaken in his opinion of Brad.
Brad’s eyes never left Vin’s. He didn’t want to be a babysitter to some rich snobby man. Shit, what the hell was he going to do now? He needed the damn job.
“Of course I’m interested,” Brad said, shifting in his chair as well.
“Do you know how to play Texas hold ‘em, Brad? ” Vin asked as he dealt Brad two cards.
“Yes?”
Brad watched Vin deal himself two cards and then lay three face up on the table.
“So do you want to job, or not?”
“Yes,” Brad said quickly, afraid he lost any opportunity in Vin’s organization.
Sean closed his eyes as he heard the one word he was dreading. ‘Damn, I guess he wasn’t an idiot after all.’ Gripping the railing tightly with his fist, Sean vowed to himself to make damn sure he kept an eye on this guy and if anything happened to Orlando, the guy would pay dearly.
“Good. I hate to think you were wasted time by coming here.” Vin’s low, thick voice drifted across the room.
Brad looked down at his cards then back up to Vin, a question in his eyes.
“Are you a gambling man, Brad?”
Brad thought about Vin’s question. He got the instinctive feeling he was being tested. “No, Mr. Diesel, I’m not.”
“Good,” Vin said, throwing down the deck of cards. “I want a guy that knows exactly what to do.”
“This is exactly what I want from you, Brad. You’re being hired to protect my boyfriend. I have several rules that you must follow when dealing with him.” Vin’s voice took on a harsh, no bullshit tone.
“First, no matter what, you’re not to touch him.” Vin looked into Brad’s eyes making sure he understood every word he was saying.
Brad stared back at Vin, raising an eyebrow at what Vin just said. “I’m not into men. I’m married and have a kid.”
Vin stared at Brad for a second longer before replying. “I know, that’s why I’m hiring you and not someone with in my organization.” He looked up at Sean pointedly.
“Does your boyfriend have enemies that I should know about?” Brad’s mind kicked into professional mode.
Sean snorted at the question, drawing Brad’s gaze back to him.
“No one is more loved then Orlando. It’s our enemies that we have to worry about.” Sean said “And believe me, Mr. Pitt, we have many.”
“That’s why I need you to protect my angel.” Vin’s voice drew Brad’s gaze back to him.
“What about in emergency situations?
Vin tapped his finger on his chin. “Only in emergency situations,” Vin relented after several minutes. “You better make damn sure it’s close to life and death situations,” Vin added as an afterthought.
Brad nodded.
“He is not to leave the house unless I explicitly tell you he can. He is not to watch TV or listen to the radio. He’s not to…”
Brad’s mind drifted off concerning what Vin was telling him and could not believe what he was hearing. Was the guy a prisoner of Vin’s? It sure as hell sounded like it.
“My rules are final, Brad. You will follow them or else.” Vin’s voice had become flat as he stared hard into Brad’s eyes.
“I understand,” Brad finally managed to say.
“I’m glad we have an understanding. You’ve come with good recommendations. I really don’t believe we’ll have a problem as long as my rules are followed.”
“Yes, sir,” Brad said.
“Good,” Vin said, standing up. He walked over to the bar and poured himself a drink.
“Would you care for anything, Brad?”
“No, I don’t drink.”
“Very good. Want you sharp at all times,” Vin said as he took a long, measured swallow.
“I take my jobs very seriously, Mr. Diesel. I won’t let you or your boyfriend down,” Brad said, his voice sounding earnest.
“Let’s hope not.”
“Time is money so I must take my leave. Sean will give you your security pass and will fill you in on the other details,” Vin said as he shrugged on his overcoat.
“When do I start?”
“Hmmm,” Vin thought for a second. “What do you think Sean, Saturday? It’s Orlando’s birthday, which should be a good time to start,” Vin said as he opened the door.
Brad could see Colin waiting on the other side to escort Vin out of the building.
As the door shut, Brad’s gaze shifted to Sean, noticing that he was glaring at him in return. What the hell had he done now?
