Chapter 9
About a year has past now. I’m now 24 years old. I’ve been on many spy assignments now. I’ve also killed many men, and seen many of our planes go down, never to see them again. About 3 months ago I was cut up really badly, but I’m all better now.
Steph and Stephen are together now. Steph keeps telling me that Adam and I should get together, because we’re so much in love with each other.
Right now I’m playing cards with Stephen and Steph, and we are talking about me and Adam. “ I still think you guys should get together.” Steph says.
“Ya, I agree with her.” Stephen says.
“I don’t know guys, I don’t think he likes me like that.”
“It’s so abvious that he likes you. I don’t get how you don’t realize that.”
“Speak of the devil.” Adam just walked in.
“Fae, come with me please.” He says.
“Have fun.” Steph syas, giggling.
“Shut up.” I playfully push her.
I walk out of the cabin. It’s winter now, so it’s really cold out. There is snow falling. The camp looks so pretty. It’s covered by a white blanket. The trees have lost their leaves, and look so bare. The sky is clear, and blue, but for a few clouds.
We walk to the main building. The building is very large. This building has offices in it, a hospital wing, and I new dining hall. The old one burnt down.
We go to Colonel Dolittle’s office. He is sitting at his desk doing some paperwork when we walk in.
“Fae, I have another assignment for you. Today you will leave before lunch ends. You will have to speak German again.”
“Ok.”
“You are going to one of the enemy’s camps. You will tell them that you are there to see how they are doing, and that you will be there for a few days. Make sure that you takes notes. Write down all assignments and codes. And remember, if you mess up, you’ll be dead. Do you understand?”
“Yes sir, I understand.”
“Adam is also going to go wih you this time. This will be your hardest assignment yet. Can you handle it?”
“Yes sir.”
“Good. Well good luck.”
Adam and I then leave the room. It’s time for lunch already, so we have to hurry and get food so we can leave on time.
“Fae, we need to hurry and eat. We still have to change into our uniforms. We need to leave before everyone else leaves....You nervous?”
“I’m fine.” I’m actually a little nervous, but I’m always nervous. There is always a 50% chance I’ll live or die.
We get out lunch and sit down and eat. By now, all the old pilots know that we are spies. Because they are always having to be close just in case we get attacked on the way there and back.
“Hey, I almost forgot. Today’s the day for new recruits.” Adam says to me. “ I wonder if there will be any new girls.”
“I don’t know. We’ll have to see when we get back, won’t we.”
“Yes we will.” I look over at Steph and Stephen. They look so happy together.
“So, I’ve been meaning to ask you. Do you have your eye one anyone lately?” Adam asks.
That totally catches me off guard. “Um, ya. Actually there is this guy. I’ve liked him for a long time.” I don’t really realize that I’m talking. It just kinda came out.
“Really? Do I know him?”
“Um, ya, you do.”
“Oh, what’s his name?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Fine.”
“What about you, do you like anyone?” ‘I cant believe I’m saying this’
“Ya, I do.”
“Why don’t you ask her out?”
“Because I don’t know if she likes me the same way. Why don’t you ask your guy out?”
“Because I don’t know if he likes me more than a friend.”
“I see. Well, we need to get going.”
“Ok.” we throw our trash away and we go to the cabin to change. Adam goes to the bathroom to change, so I change in the cabin.
When we are done changing, we go to our planes. “Fae, just follow me. This is a new plane and it’s far. When we get there I will talk first. I will introduce both of us to the general there. Then you will say what you were told to say. Here is the flag. Remember if something goes wrong, put this in the window. Ok?”
“Ok!”
We then climb into our planes and leave.
