Ok, so it's been a long time since I last posted. The thing is I couldn't write all that time, in fact this portion was all done three days ago in one sitting. It actually shocked me to see that I could write again. I had no idea where to go to be honest. Then I found out why three days ago. I had to leave Sam alone for a little bit, and focus on other characters. So most of this is about David and Lily. I hope you enjoy. If you want me to post more, then please review. Otherwise I won't be adding much more to it. I want to get the story finished, but it's hard without the right type of motivation.
I used brackets(ie. [ ]) for the past. I hope this will make things easier.

“Hey, Ev.” He paused for a second. “She’s back.”
“Wait,” someone responded on the other line. “I thought you said she went up for adoption, Nathan.”
“That what we all decided.” He sighed. “We need to meet again. We’ll have to meet at his place. Oh…. And one other thing, Lily’s dead.”
He hung up the phone and looked at the picture. “Lily, what happened.”
[“Come on guys!” a girl was running ahead. “You’re too slow.” Laughing, she ran ahead.
“Lily! No one can keep up with you.” A boy yelled towards her. “Slow down!”
“David, you need to shape up.”
“Quiet, Nathan.” David heaved. “Don’t say something when even you can’t keep up with her.”
“I’ll catch her one day.” He said with a false confidence.
“Go, Nathan!” A girl yelled from the bleachers. “I think you’re catching up.”
Still laughing, Lily turned around and starting running backwards. “Come on guys, we still have two laps left.” Her face beaming, she turned back around and pushed harder.
By the time Nathan and David reached the finish line, she was fully recovered. “So how did we do Eveline?”
“Better than last time.” She looked at Nathan. “I think you’re improving.”
Nathan grinned big, “Of course I am.”
“A little cocky are we?” David said. “Look, I got to get back home now. I have to get up early and help dad out.”
“Take care, David.” Lily said. “Be careful.”
“Yeah,” Nathan added. “We wouldn’t want to lose a runner to help show we’re better.”
David just looked at him. “Thank you, Lily. Well, I’m off.”
“Hey, Ev, would you go get me something to drink?” She looked happy, “Yes, yes of course.”
“So, how about it Lily?” He smirked. “Are you up for it today?”
All the joy left her. “Leave me alone, Nathan.” She looked away. “I told you I don’t like it.”
“It didn’t look like that last time.” He said still smirking.
“No.” She said fiercely. “Never again. I’ll make you a deal. If you can catch me, I won’t fight it. But only if you can catch me.”
“I’ll catch you one of these days.” He said with confidence.
“I’m leaving.” After that she ran.]

That evening two people came by close to closing time. It was the coach, and some woman, which I guessed was his ex. I went over to him, but before I could say anything he told me to get David. He was sitting in a booth so they didn’t see him, and he got up. He greeted them and took them to the back, and told me to lock up and go ahead home. I thought it was strange so I went to talk with Chloe, and Tom since they were together at his place.
“I don’t understand it.” I told them. “All of their faces were so… sober. Something has to be up.”
“We should just leave it alone.” Tom said. “If they wanted to include us, they would.”
“How did daddy look?” She looked worried. “I mean, exactly.”
“Like he did when…” I couldn’t say it.
“We should go over there.” She suddenly shouted.
“No,” Tom stopped her. “Trust me. Some things are best left alone. What Sam here experienced isn’t something we need to get in the way of.”
“But, daddy!” She was getting hysterical.
I got up and hugged her. “Chloe, it’s okay.” I had to stay there with Tom to help calm her down. In the end, everything turned out ok with Chloe, but that dark cloud was still looming over the situation. I resolved myself to check up on it with the coach the next day.
---------------------------------------------------------
“Nathan, Eveline.” David whispered to not alarm Samantha. “Let’s go to the back.” They all walked to the back, but David stopped to talk with Samantha for a moment. “I want you to lock up. I don’t think anyone else will be coming. Don’t worry about cleaning up, I’ll get it after these two leave. Go home, and get some rest for tomorrow.”
He walked into the back with the other two. “Wait a second.” He told the other two, while he checked on Samantha. After she left, he turned back. “Sorry about that. I had to make sure she left.”
“Understandable.” Nathan spoke first. “It’s been a while.”
“Yeah,” David spoke. “Almost 18 years.”
“So you know?” Eveline looked confused.
“I’ve hid it, since it happened.” David was upset.
“I’m sorry, David.” Nathan was looking down. “It was all my fault. I’m really sorry.”
“Well, you better be.” Eveline turned her back to Nathan. “After being married to you for how long? Why didn’t you tell me before last year?”
“Don’t you mean two years ago now?” Nathan said. “It’s been two years.”
“Why are you guys here?” David said callously. “I wouldn’t think you’d come here to argue.”
“David, Sam…” he sighed.
“She never left.” David said. “I’ve seen her grow up. It was you that left.”
“I know.” He paused. “But when I heard from her that Lily died…”
“Don’t start that now.” David grabbed his shirt. “I remember! I know you didn’t love her! If you had, you would’ve never ignored her or her child. I want you out of here! Now!”
He pushed him over to the door and shoved him out. Eveline put a hand on his shoulder, “Why did you do that? I hate him too, but that…”
“Because he raped her!” He cried. “She came to me one night. Lily!”
“But he told me,” She paused. “He told me they slept together.”
“I don’t know what he told you, but it was a lie.” David said focused again. “I don’t know what you remember of Nathan, but he wasn’t the man you thought he was. I think that if you weren’t so in love with him you might have actually seen him for who he was.”
“He wasn’t that bad.” She said. “For as long as I was married to him, he was a decent man, but then he told me out of no where about him and Lily. He said they were in love.”
“He told you wrong.” David sighed. “I think it’s best you leave now.”
“Ok,” She submitted. “I’m sorry David.”
“Thank you.” He locked up behind her and went into the back room. “Why did this have to happen?”
While he headed to Lily’s room, he told himself that it would’ve happened sooner or later. He kept so much secret, and he hated that it turned out the way it had. He remembered everything, and that’s what hurt the most. Even Nathan didn’t know everything, and it appeared Eveline knew even less. Still, he wondered why Nathan came over with her.
“Lily,” He talked to her portrait. “How much longer does this have to stay hidden?” He remembered the day she first entered into the shop. “Do you remember the day she came in? She was barely 15, but still looked so much like you. That was when you started staying in the backroom more. I remember you saying that she shouldn’t know. She still doesn’t.
“When we came down here together, I almost thought she would’ve known, but she didn’t, even after I offered her to stay here. I wish she’d had. I think the time to tell is soon though. Nathan seems different, and he might actually tell the truth. He might want to be a father now. But we both know he could never be one for her. We’ll have to tell her if he tries.”
[She continued running till she came up to one house. It was late, and needed to be with someone. She went up to the house and looked for his window. She tapped on the window a couple times before he actually answered. She was thankful that he was a light sleeper, now more than ever. She hadn’t ever told him, and she hoped he would believe her despite the situation.
“Lily,” David said surprised. “Why are you here? What’s wrong?”
She climbed through the window and hugged him. “Please just hold me.” She started to cry.
“Wha-what is it?” He asked pulling her closer feeling her whole body shake. “What’s the matter?”
She looked up into his eyes and slowly reached his lips with her own. Upon contact, they both let loose and drowned into each other. Lily put all her feelings into it, and received what she wanted. She knew in that first kiss. David loved her. Moving back from his face, she smiled. He did likewise, but then remembered.
“What’s wrong?” He asked again
“It was Nathan.” She looked ashamed. “He keeps pressuring me. I don’t want to do it. I don’t. Please, just let me lay with you for a while.”
He held on to her and wished he could do something for her. “Do you want me to keep him away from you?” She shook her head. “Let me do something for you.”
“He won’t again.” She held on tighter. “He’ll never be able to.”
Holding her closely, he begins kissing her again. She returned it, and added an ‘I love you.’ He asked her to let him do something for her again. The only thing else she said that night was to help her forget. And he did so up till he fell asleep. That night everything changed.]
---------------------------------------------------------
In actuality it was a short part to it, but it did have a lot of dialogue. Please let me know how I can improve any part of it.
P.S. The title was Melancholy Man because it was about David.
