Maurice was pacing back and forth in his living room. His wife, Mailynn, and daughter, Sydney, were sitting and watching him. Ashton has had to be confined to a cross lined room. He was close to losing his temper. It took Maurice, Mailynn and Sydney to get him into the room. Maurice planned to let him out once he regained control of his anger. Which could take awhile.
"I say we should just leave Ash there, daddy. Even if he cools down, he could snap again at any time." Sydney said cheerfully. Maurice was not amused.
"I am not going to leave him locked in there like some animal. If I don't let him help pursue the attacker of his own wife he would be furious with us all."
"Maybe she's dead." Mailynn said with a smile. "I mean, can you sense her?"
"You know that I cannot sense any vampires outside of Newport." he answered sharply. Mailynn stood and glided over to her husband and began to circle him.
"Maybe you should try and fix that. Remove the boundaries."
"It cannot be done. At least not by me." he told her.
"Perhaps you're afraid to try. To really try. Do you like feeling weak, Maurice?" she whispered mockingly. Maurice shot her a look that made even Sydney flinch. Mailynn just laughed and stalked out of the room. Maurice closed his eyes and didn't move.
"Do not listen to her, father. She hasn't been herself lately." he opened his eyes and Sydney was standing in front of him. She reminded Maurice of himself when he was that young. But she had some inner demons to fight before she would truly be like him. Actually, all three of his children were like him. None really took after Mailynn. Even Elizabeth, who wasn't his daughter, was like him in some way. Maurice lifted Sydney's chin with his fingers.
"My little girl." he said. Sydney lit up into a smile.
"I'll always be your little girl, dad." she told him, kissing his cheek. "Do you think we'll find them? Savannah and Elizabeth?"
"I hope so, Syd. I want you to go to Astoria. Find Edward Matthews. He'll be able to help you find her."
"Edward! You mean he's alive!" she asked shocked.
"Yes, go and find him. And come home safe." he kissed the top of her head. She smiled and headed to her room. When she got there, her mother was waiting for her.
"Well?" she demanded. Sydney twisted a smile onto her lips.
"I'm going to Astoria to get Edward Matthews to help find Savannah."
"Edward Matthews. That's someone I haven't tasted in many years." she stood and moved behind Sydney. She leaned forward and breathed along Sydney's neck. "Find your sister and kill her. Then bring Edward to me. We have some unfinished business." She nipped Sydney's neck, drawing a small amount of blood. She licked the small droplets from her lips. "Just remember who your mother is."
"Yes, mother." Sydney said to empty air. She started to pack for Astoria.
