Chapter Nine

Standing in front of the mirror, I was tempted to change yet again. What exactly do you wear to a dinner date slash concert? Normally, I didn’t do dates and would just wear the tight black leather that had been my trademark to the concert, but that didn’t seem appropriate for tonight.

I sighed and called into the other room. Cassi promptly walked into the room looking spectacular in a form fitting pale blue silk dress that left little to the imagination. She had a pair of knee high navy blue velvet boots in her hand as she flopped onto my bed and frowned, looking me over. “You’re not going to wear that, are you?”

I looked at the black leather skirt and shirt I wore and sighed, pulling the shirt over my head. “Any suggestions, Cassi? They would be much appreciated.”

“First off, Lexi, black leather may be good to hunt in, but you’ve already wrangled the boy, so there’s no hunt left to it.” She dropped the boots onto the floor and walked to my closet. “Now we just have to find something that says ‘Jump me now’. Where is that dress …?”

Her voice faded and she walked deeper into the closet. She made a triumphant noise and came out of the closet with a thin strapped, low cut V-neck silk dress in a shade of green only a shade lighter than my emerald eyes. I had only worn it twice, but apparently Cassi had thought it looked good on me. Well, she had bought it for me.

“Here you go, Lexi. You looked so hot in this when you wore it last. I was blown away.”

I slipped the black leather skirt I had been wearing off and stood before her in nothing but black silk panties. I pulled the silk dress over my head and straightened it over my thighs. It came just below mid-thigh and looked amazing on me, but I wasn’t too sure about the length.

“I don’t, Cassi. Isn’t it a little too short? And what am I going to do about shoes? I don’t think I own any green shoes.”

“Don’t you worry about that, Lexi. I have a pair of knee highs in a green that matches your dress to perfection.” She disappeared out of the room and I was happy for the fact that we were the same shoe size.

She came back and handed me a pair of boots identical to hers, save the color, and flopped onto my bed, pulling her shoes on and sipping them up. “See, Lexi? If we hadn’t started moving me into your house, you wouldn’t have shoes for tonight.”

“Yeah, and you wouldn’t tickets to the hottest show in town, would you?”

Cassi rolled her eyes and leaned back against the bed, looking as much like the sex goddess of a dancer everyone thought her to be. She crossed her legs and gestured for me to put my boots on. I shook my head and slipped the boots on, looking in the mirror at my reflection.

The green of the dress and boots looked great against my tan complexion and made my eyes seem all the more green. It was a color that looked great on me, but I hardly wore it. My hair was a mess, so I grabbed a brush and ran it through my waist length crimson hair.

I frowned and tossed the brush onto the table. “I can’t go, Cassi. Look at my hair! You ask what I always keep my hair up? Well it’s because I can’t get the curls under control.”

Cassi sighed and stood, forcing me to sit in a chair. She pulled my hair up into a perfect ponytail atop my head and pulled my curling iron out, curling the ponytail even more so that the curls cascaded gracefully around my shoulders.

It was amazing to see the speed and precision of her hands, but the transformation of my normally unyielding mass of hair was amazing. “I hate you.”

Cassi smiled and shrugged. “I know, but I love you and that’s all that matters. Now I just have to figure out what to do with my hair.”

I stood and looked at her straight hair, falling against her back. “Well, we know we can’t curl it. We’ve tried that and it didn’t work very well.” I smiled and shook my head. “I think I have it. Sit down.”

She obeyed without question and I stood behind her. I had an idea, but I had only ever done it once. Here was hoping I got it right this time.

I held my hand above her head and closed my eyes, pulling my powers into my hands and pushing it into her hair. Within seconds, her hair rose and started to braid itself into elaborate braids, like something out of the Victorian age. Two strands of hair fell around her face and curled into perfect ringlets.

I dropped my hand and only opened my eyes when I heard the gasp from Cassi. I gasped myself and stared at Cassi’s reflection in the mirror. It was amazing to see her relentlessly straight hair curled so perfectly with braids of such elegance, like they were meant for her.

“Wow, Lexi. I … Wow.” Cassi seemed to be speechless, unable to comprehend what had just happened.

“I know what you mean, Cassi. I’ve never done that before. I mean, I have, but it didn’t turn out like this.”

“It’s the hairstyle of my dreams, Lexi. I mean, I’ve always wanted to get my hair to do this, but it won’t curl so I’ve never been able to try. This is amazing. You have a great talent in your hands.” She stood and looked at herself in the full length mirror by the door and gestured for me to do that same. “Quite the pair, aren’t we?”

That we were. She was only two inches taller than me, but those two inches made her legs seem like that went on forever. I was bustier than her, but she was thinner with a dancers body and that made her all the more beautiful than I was. I’m not ugly, just don’t compare me to Cassiopeia or it seems that way.

I nodded and took a deep breath. “Ready?”

“Of course, Lexi. I’m dressed to impress and more than ready to meet the hot ones that are waiting for us. Can we take my car though? No offense, but I don’t want to show up looking this hot in your Jeep Wrangler, covered in dirt and blood.”

I rolled my eyes and shrugged. “Whatever. If you want to take your car, we can. Just be warned that if I flash anyone getting out of your car, it’s your fault.”

“Oh they’ll love that, won’t they?”

I rolled my eyes and grabbed my heavy black purse off the table in the living room, Cassi close behind. She grabbed the purse and shook her head. “You don’t need that big ass thing.”

“It has my gun in it, Cassi. I need it.” I yanked the purse from her, but she resisted.

“I think not, Lexi. We have to girly you up a little. Here.” She tossed me a velvet green purse just big enough for my wallet, gun, and an extra clip.

I grumbled as I switched everything over into the green purse. I looked up and realized that she had been standing there holding a tube of lipstick out to me. “I don’t do make up, Cassi. You know that.”

“Tonight, you at least do lipstick.”

She grabbed my chin and stared at me until I puckered up my lips. She applied the crimson red lipsticks and gestured for me to look into her compact. “Wow, Lexi, I never knew you were so hot.”

She was right. I had never looked this good in my life. Even when at the office I never wore make up. It was something my aunt had forbidden me to do when I was younger, so I had never tried, even after her death. Maybe things would change from now on.

“What about you, Cassi?”

“I’m wearing make up, Lexi. Just look close enough.” Her eyeliner was perfection, barely noticeable. Her already long lashes were thicker and there was a faint dusting of blue eye shadow on her eyelids. She put on a lipstick that was the red of freshly spilled blood and smiled, a toothy grin that flashed fangs.

“And as always, Cassi, I can barely tell. Your natural beauty just hypnotizes me to only see you.”

“Flirt.” She closed and locked the door behind me as we exited and opened the garage door.

I shook my head at the pale blue convertible sitting beside my dirty Jeep. Her Porsche made my Jeep look like it had been run through the dumpster a hundred times and been thrown back together. I could afford a new car, but why buy something different when what I had worked just fine?

She slipped into her seat and I slid into mine, glancing at her just before she pealed out of the driveway and down the road toward the amphitheater where the concert was to be held. The show wouldn’t start for another couple of hours, but we had to meet the guys for dinner in less than thirty minutes. I was just hoping that Cassi didn’t embarrass me.

* * *

I walked up to the back door of the amphitheatre, Cassi in tow, and opened the door, quickly stopped by a bodyguard. “Sorry, miss, you’ll have to come back when the show starts.”

“It’s alright, John. They’re with me.” Ian walked around the corner and things low in my body tightened.

He was wearing skin tight leather pants that let me know there was nothing under them but him. His shirt was mesh and showed off his tight muscular chest to the greatest vantage point. I have never had this reaction to any man before, and I didn’t like it.

I glanced at Cassi and saw her lick her lips, completely obvious with her thoughts. I growled at she realized what she was doing, stopping herself. She shrugged in apology and I turned back to Ian who was staring at us like we had done something entertaining.

“Hey, Ian. Sorry we’re a little late. Had a wardrobe problem. I only seem to own black leather and blue jeans.” I noticed Ian look me over and smiled slightly.

“I know how you feel, Alexia. The only thing I seem to own are the close we use for the stage, which just so happens to be leather, mesh, and jeans. Though I see that you seem to have found something other than leather to wear.”

I blushed and nodded. “Yes, thanks to Cassi.” He doesn’t know Cassi. Shit, I needed introductions. “Oh, Ian, this is my housemate, Cassiopeia Holland. Cassi, this is Ian Donne.”

Cassi and Ian shook hands. She smiled and nodded. “Call me Cass. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ian. I’ve heard a lot about you.”

She glanced at me with a wide smile and I blushed a little deeper. “Um, so what’s the plan, Ian?” Stupid.

“Ah yes, the plan. Harper, Gabe, and Matt are waiting in the back room with dinner for all of us. We still have to rehearse so we were hoping we could have you do be fresh ears for us. How does that sound?” He raised an eyebrow and gestured toward the back room.

I glanced at Cassi who merely smiled wide and nodded. “Sounds wonderful, Ian. Lead the way.”

He bowed playfully and walked down the hall, giving us the perfect view of his tight ass. I had the oddest feeling that I wasn’t going to make it through the night.

* * *

The dinner and the concert had been wonderful, but Cassi had disappeared with Harper shortly after the concert had ended. All throughout dinner they had seemed lost in their own conversation, and I was happy for that. She had been surprisingly conversational throughout dinner, but it wasn’t until just before dinner that all Hell broke loose.

Gabriel had been watching both me and Cassi eat, and just before Ian went to get the desserts, he ask the question that Cassi and I were hoping no one would ask.

“Cass, why aren’t you eating? I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve noticed that you haven’t taken a single bite of food since you got here.”

He was innocent but clever as well. I looked at Cassi and shrugged, telling her that she had to answer. She sighed and looked at Harper before answering. “I don’t eat … food. I’m a vampyre. I take the blood of willing victims as my food.”

Everyone had been shocked at first, but it had quickly settled down when they all confessed their own little secrets. Cassi had looked at me and sighed, knowing that it was dangerous for me to tell anyone my secret.

So dinner had gone well, the rehearsal was amazing, and the concert blew us away. But Cassi hadn’t come backstage with me after the concert, she had disappeared with Harper and left me stranded at the amphitheater.

I was sitting in one of the waiting rooms for someone to come around, nearly fifteen minutes after Cassi had disappeared. I had the oddest feeling I was either going to have to call Karma or Mike to have them come get me, but that thought was short lived when Ian walked into the door, huge smile on his face.

He had changed into jeans and a T-shirt, but the effect he had on me was no different than it had been earlier. “Need a ride home, Alexia?”

I smiled and shrugged. “It’s either get a ride from you or wake up some friends to come get me. I just hope that Cassi and Harper are having fun.”

He laughed and smiled. “I’m sure they’re having a blast. I think they both needed someone. I don’t know why, but Cassi seems a little lonely, like she’s blocked herself from having relationships.”

“You just hit that nail on the head, Ian. Cassi is one of those vampyres that is kind and caring, but thinks everyone will judge her because of her problem. I know that you and the other guys feel that same way. Most Dimensionals do.”

“Yeah, we do, but now we all have each other.”

I smiled and nodded. “It’s great to have friends like yourself.”

I stood and walked toward the door. He held his arm out to me and I looped my arm with his as he led me out the back door.

There were screaming fan girls and they looked angry at me, but for once in a really long time, I was happy. He opened the car door and I slid into the soft leather seats of his Cadillac Escalade. He slid into his seat and we started off toward my house.

The only sound during the car ride was my voice as I gave him directions. We pulled into my driveway and I didn’t know where to go from here.

“Thanks, Ian. I really appreciate this.” I slid out of the car and started toward my front door, pulling my keys out of my bag.

I heard the car door slam and stopped, watching Ian run toward me. “Wait, Alexia.”

When he was even with me, my heart started to pound. “What is it, Ian?”

Ian leaned into me and brushed his lips against mine, the softest of kisses. He pulled back and smiled. “That’s all I wanted. That and to see you again.”

My lips tingled where his had touched mine and I wanted more than that gentle brush. Even after all I had been through last night, I wanted his touch.

I nodded and spoke breathlessly. “OK. I mean, I’d like that.”

He smiled and turned to leave, but I grabbed his arm, pulling him toward me. He was six foot three and I was only five foot seven, five foot ten with the boots on. I stood on tiptoes and pulled his head down, kissing him hard.

He wrapped his arms around me and deepened the kiss, opening my mouth with his tongue and exploring my mouth in a gently, probing way I had never been kissed before.

I pulled back gently and smiled. “Call me and we’ll make a date.”

He nodded and kissed me gently again, heading back to his car. I watched him get into his car and pull away before heading into my house. My dreams were going to heavenly tonight. I just hoped that Cassi would get home before sunrise.
