Chapter 8



When I opened my eyes, I saw that I was laying in the middle of the woods. I feel a body underneath mine and see Artemis laying under me asleep. Everything that happened the previous day came back to me in a rush. I can’t believe I broke down like that. I can’t believe that she stayed here with me all night holding me. I’m so lucky. I trace my fingers along the contours of her face. Her eyes slowly flicker open from my touch and a smile graces her luscious, pink lips.

“Good morning Eros. It seems like you’re feeling a bit better.” Her arms wrap around me tighter as we lay on the forest floor littered with leaves and dirt. These woods feel like home.

“Yeah, I’m feeling a bit better thanks to you.” That knowable gleam appears in her eye as we lean together and meet in a kiss. It is hot, passionate, and everything I am needing right now. She pulls away from me, and I feel the loss like a shock.

“We really should get you back to the Amazon tribe. They will probably come looking for you at some point and time.”

“I don’t care. I’ll go back later today. I don’t think Raine will miss me to much for a little while. I think she’ll be able to figure out I needed some alone time.”

“Hmm… if that’s what you really want to do.”

“What I really want happens to be laying right beside me.” The gleam appears in my eyes this time as I lean in and capture her lips again. Our hands are all over each other and clothes are thrown in every direction. The gentleness and passion are there, but there is a rough lust behind our actions. Rolling across the ground, Artemis ends up on top of me. I feel the crunch of leaves under my back. The Powerbands gleam on my arms, being the only adornments on me that are never taken off. I feel the harmonies of the woods flowing through me. Artemis’ lips are everywhere. Her hands run down my stomach, and then she plunges two fingers into me. Her lips crash into mine once again, and I can not help the moan that escapes my lips. I return the favor by plunging two fingers into her. My name escapes her lips. We ride each others fingers, building up to what we are both striving to reach. All I can think of is her. Her touch… Her taste… How much I love her… That’s when something happened that I would have never expected. We both reached our climax at the same time. Our mouths clamped down on each others right shoulder. Fangs sinking in. As soon as I realize what I had done, I pull away looking into Artemis’ eyes. For some reason, she has a big smile on her face even though we just bit into each others shoulders. We both lay there catching our breath. One thing a lot of people don’t know about the gods and goddesses. Those two canine teeth we have are fangs on them.

“I… I’m sorry for umm… biting you.” I say, and that beautiful laugh of hers escapes her mouth.

“You don’t know what you just did… do you?”

“I bit you…”

“It was a little bit more than that. You remember that I bit you too. What happened Eros, is that we marked each other. Demons mark their mates by biting them somewhere and laying their mark on them. We marked each other as mates.”

“Oh… Wow…” I think about the importance of what Artemis just said. Wow… I just… I just mated a goddess. “Why do you keep calling me Eros? I’m just wondering. Is it one of your new nicknames for me?”

“I call you Eros, because that is what you are to me. Eros means desire and love. You are my desire and my love.” She smiles as she says that. The look in her eyes says more than her words ever can.

The sun has finally made its way high into the sky. “It’s getting late… I guess I should go back before they do send a search party after me.”

“Yeah, you should be getting back.” We both get up and put our clothes on which have been strewn everywhere.

Artemis turns to look at me after she finishes getting dressed. “You look like you’ve been rolling around in the woods. You have leaves all in your hair.” She starts to laugh at my appearance.

“Well, you don’t look much better.” She glares at me and snaps her fingers. Suddenly, she looks like she never did what just happened a little while ago.

“Cheater… You used your god powers.” I say as I cross my arms over my chest.

“You should be getting back.” She comes over, kisses, and hugs me. “I’ll see you soon. Goodbye Eros.”

I begin my trek back toward the Amazon tribe. I pick the leaves out of my hair and after fifteen minutes enter the Amazon village. I head back to the hut that Raine and I were staying in and crash on the bed. A little later that day, I hear the flap open at the front of the hut. Raine enters and sits down beside where I am laying on my bed.

“Are you alright? I woke up last night and you weren’t here.” I pull myself up into a sitting position beside Raine.

“I needed some time… Time to let out my emotions. The reason I came back so late today was that Artemis had came down and talked to me. I’m sorry for not telling you, but I figured that you would figure it out.”

“That is what I figured… I was about to send a search party after you if you were gone for to much longer.” The solemn look on her face is replaced by a smile. “When do you think you’ll be ready to head out?”

“Let me get cleaned up a little, have a talk with the Amazon Queen here, and then we’ll head off tomorrow if you like.”

“Alright, that sounds good to me.”

After talking to the Amazon Queen, I go and clean myself up from the romp that Artemis and I had had in the forest. The next day, Raine and I saddle our horses getting them ready to leave. As we hop in the saddle and ride off, the Amazons wave farewell. After riding for a few minutes Raine asks, “So, what did Artemis have to say to you?”

I turn my head to hide the blush that began to cover my face. “She comforted me about what happened today earlier in my village.” We continue our ride in silence. It is not an uncomfortable one. Raine and I seem to have developed an understanding for one another. Our comfortable silence is interrupted when two men come running down the path to our rear screaming, “Monsters! Demons! Help us, someone!!!” Raine and I turn our steeds around to see what the two troubled men could be running from. Their panicked running keeps causing them to stumble and trip themselves up. I see another snake creature following behind the two men. I hang my head down. Not more snake things. Last time I met one of these I had multiple ribs broken.

Raine and I both jump off our horses. I see her pull out a bow and arrows and start letting loose. Her aim is excellent, and she is managing to keep its attention on her. I unsheathe my swords and come up behind it. It tries to side swipe me with it spiny tail, but I manage to avoid it. When it goes to lash at me again, I pin its tail into the ground with one of my swords. It turns towards me in anger, no longer focusing on Raine. That is when Rain place an arrow through its eye with a well-placed shot. It turns back towards her, not knowing which person is the bigger threat. It starts to lunge towards Raine again, causing its tail to be slice in half by my sword that is pinning it to the ground. With the snake-man’s attention focused entirely on her, I jump up and swipe off its head with my sword from behind. It falls to the ground, still twitching the way lifeless reptile bodies will do.

After retrieving my other sword, Raine and I both turn our attention to the men who had stopped to watch from behind trees. I see that the two men are Achneas and Jacob. “What are you two doing here?”

“We… ummm… Artemis showed up in our village after you left. She said that you were under her protection. She… We thought she was going to do something horrible to the village. She yelled at us and told us how awful we were. She explained everything and… Faith, we are truly sorry. The village sends its apologies to you. We should’ve never supported the way your parents treated you. We stood there and watched as they treated you in one of the lowest ways possible when all you did was tell them the truth.” Achneas says. I look back and forth between the two men.

“I should have known that she would do something like that. You all deserved whatever she said or did to you. I need to be on my way. Is that all you needed to tell me?” Artemis… You surprise me. Hahaha. I would’ve never expected this from her. She really meant it when she said that she didn’t want anyone to hurt me. I guess that means physical and emotional hurt.

Achneas takes my hand in his, “Faith, everyone really is sorry. I am really sorry. I should have stood up for you and protected you. I should have been the one that was there for you.” I pull my hand out of Achneas’ grasp.

“Achneas… Don’t start this.”

“Faith, I only want what’s best for you. You need a man who can be there for you.”

“Achneas, what little semblance of a relationship you and I had a long time ago is long over. I belong to someone else now.”

“You’re married or are your ties to your goddess so strong she only lets you near her.”

“My goddess has done more for me than you ever can. Get out of my face Achneas.”

“Can your goddess give you children!? A family!?” He is just trying to make me angry now.

“My goddess gives me love. She gives me more than any man could. Goodbye Achneas… Goodbye Jacob.” Achneas turns his back to me and starts walking back the way he came. Jacob follows along. Jacob always was one to follow Achneas around trying to be like him.

Raine and I call our horses back over to us and saddle up. “Guess we head to Sparta now?” Raine asks. I’m glad she didn’t ask about Achneas. He was a thing of the past. One of the men who courted me because it was what my parents wanted.

“Yeah, off to Sparta we go.” I give her a smile.
