---------------------------

The ceremony had been beautiful but it caused me pain as it made me think of my father and my mother and the time so brutally stolen from us. It raised questions that even now still hurt. Would my parents have retaken their vows? Would they still insist on the Christmas traditions like One Christmas present on Christmas Eve along with singing Christmas carol’s as mum played the piano? Would mum and dad still relish telling me the story of when they first met?

When I pushed the thoughts aside and watched Adam’s parents after forty-five years of marriage still so happy and so much in love. I was happy for them and the many strange faces that filled the hall did also.

After the ceremony there had been a few whirlwind introduction and photographs, when I was swiftly relieved of my camera by a friend of Adam’s who’s name I did not catch over my protests that I don’t photograph well. I stood between Adam and his father who thanked me once again for helping. I smile awkwardly feeling like a pigeon amongst swans.

“Smile and pretend the camera’s me” Adam whispers.

“Is that what you do?” I ask

“If its you taking the picture I pretend the camera’s not there and that your naked, if its not you I still imagine the same”

I laughed I couldn’t help it and I made a mental note (which promptly got forgotten) that I would get him back for that. Though that didn’t stop me trying out his method, which, I might add worked.

I was eager to get my camera back into my hands, so eager I almost snatched it back from the photographer. Who laughs at me with a knowing smile before being whisked away by a leggy brunette.

By various means the attendees left the church and headed to the hotel where the after party was being held. Though Adam and I were one of the first to arrive the room soon began to fill. The DJ was playing a few tunes for the few children who were attending, drinks were brought at the bar and droves of people came over to the table where me, Adam and his family were seated.

Mostly I watched the conversations around me until some one, some how brought me into it but soon my feeble resistance was futile as Adam’s father Henry brought up the dance competition on the city hall in two months. We both fell deep in conversation about the dynamics of the tango.

“She’s a right little Minx on the dance floor” Adam commented. “she glides like an angel”

“I’m not that good” I state rolling my eyes at his words.

“Only one way to find out” Henry stated standing up, I assumed he was getting a drink so I turned my attention to Adam who was grinning mischievously. A tap on my shoulder caught my attention I turned.

“May I have this dance?” Henry asked charmingly with a bow. I look at his outstretched hand and around the room before taking it. “lets see if you can keep up”

“Don’t worry about me old man, just beware of the trails of flames I leave behind” the words were out of my mouth before my mind had even processed the first two words but his laughter was both infectious and reassuring as he escorted me from the table and to the dance floor. Adam began to clap and attentions immediately turned to me and Henry whom just waved at the crowd.

The Dj handed the microphone to Henry, who studied it for a few seconds before raising it to his lips.

“First of all I’d like to thank you all for attending this fine day and evening. Speeches, thanks and gifts are scheduled for now but as usual the schedule has been thrown out of the window as I have been issued a wonderful challenge by this little Vixen to my right” I blush at his words and giggles escape my lips

“for those who don’t know her this is Adam’s girl friend and a damn good photographer Kelly. I’m taking her up on her challenge to keep up with her on the dance floor so while me and Miss Turner settles this issue once and for all please help yourselves to the delightful food that will be on its way around.”

There’s clapping but no ones paying any attention to the waiters and waitresses who begin their tasks all eyes are on us. The music starts and I drag my eyes away from the crowd and to my challenger.

The music excites me, I recognise it immediately. I stamp my foot and throw my head back looking down my nose at Henry. He grins at the challenge and offers his hand which once more I take though this time Its reluctant and we’re making this up as we go along. He pulls me into him and I spin and when he dips me I do not question me. I knew I had no choice but to trust him or make a fool out of myself.

“Don’t worry its just a standard tango sped up and with a little spice.” He laughs I smirk pulling my felt underneath me I push myself up forcing him to stand up also, the move is frisky and full of attitude. Some how it was like dancing with my father again, it didn’t matter how it looked because it was a dance off, you both put your heart and soul challenging and pushing your opponent whose your partner to upping the standard.

It was about having fun. The dance he chose was frisky and sexy in itself it was all about the ability to fool people with your body language.

He smirks and some how I cant help the smile that I return it with. After all I already decided that I would date Adam and his family had taken me under their wing and if dancing better than I ever had was all I could do to repay them I would.

Every challenge I set up he took and surpassed and I like to think that the challenge he set up for me I met for when we finished we were both breathing quite hard but were greeted with a roaring applause. I curtsied to the crowd and he bowed to them before turning to me. He bowed and I curtsied before hastily exiting.

“I think shes trying to steal your Father Adam.” Adam’s mother said turning to her son. I opened my mouth suddenly concerned but her face broke into a smile and laying a tender hand on my shoulder she smiled. “You dance beautifully. You were well taught I haven’t seen my husband dance like that in a long time”

I took the compliment with a blush, the heat rushing to my face. I listened to the speeches with mild interest. I’d already read Adam’s speech and checked it through and taking out jokes I thought inappropriate and coming up with newer cleaner jokes that seemed to be going down well. For the first time I truly let myself relax and enjoy the bubbling party atmosphere and the food that had been served up, the prawns were fresh and delicious.

Speaches now over and main course on its way Adam slipped his chair closer to mine.

“god I cant wait to get you alone, watching dance like that…”he made a soft purring noise in my ear “I don’t think I’ve ever been jealous of any one as much as I was on=f my father when he was dancing with you”

I could only blush and giggle at his words. Some how I knew then I would never forget this night Adam leant forward and chastely kissed my lips giving me a whisper of a promise of what would follow if I went home with him in the night. An offer I could not turn down.
